I tried a frankenstein combination of both recipes with a bunch of substitutions (chaos bakers unite) and with metric measurements and it still worked pretty well! It was very thirsty and I ended up adding all the aquafaba plus some brewed coffee and grounds for flavour and extra roughage. If you’re on a high protein diet you understand the need for fibre and roughage! The only thing was my protein powder has a really intense artificial sweetener flavour and it was quite concentrated in this format. I’ve found that a squeeze of lime in coke no sugar completely neutralises the chemical aftertaste, so I’m going to try adding some sort of acid, maybe in the form of vegan buttermilk next time? Hope everyone reading this is staying safe ♥️ from Australia xx
I tried the chocolate version using chickpeas and substituted the dates with no sugar added raisins as they were cheaper. It turned out really good and filling with just a couple small pieces. Next time I might try using figs for added texture.
I've made something similar for my mom to keep weight on her. I also added vanilla extract, cinnamon, cardamom, raisins, dried cranberries. Sometimes I pulse up other seeds like sunflower, pumpkin, hemp, flax and sub for some of the oatmeal flour.
Getting enough water is important, also, so consider making lots of jello. Dad didn’t want water so I got him bottles of green tea with vitamin C. You have a tough job, best of luck to you.

For metric system users... I used the following measurements (using a ccm-measuring cup*): - 250[ml]* oats - 400g chickpeas - 65ml maple syrup - 75g protein powder - 125[ml]* PB2-powder - 65[ml]* peanut butter (this one's kinda hard to measure, so you'll have to eyeball it a bit) - 65ml Aquafaba I used a hand processor since I misplaced my actual one and I don't wanna risk smoking up the kitchen anyway. I recommend processing the dry and wet ingredients separately because at certain stages you're left with an oats+chickpeas goop that's likely to kill a blender here or there. These came out really well though. Next time I'll add some whole peanuts at the end for a bit more texture variety.
Thank you for taking the time to share with us, above everything, I, along with all your fans I’m sure, wish you and your family are safe. ❤❤❤from Australia
These look great I am definitely going to try them! I'm still amazed about your body transformation though. I have been following you for a while and still can't wrap my head around it that this is the same person I watched a year or two ago. Just amazing to see and very inspiring! Much love to you
I made the peanut butter version this AM and added Lily's sugar-free chocolate chips on top. The flavor is good, but they are very dense. A cup of coffee made one bar go down easier. I used my standard Isopure vanilla powder. I wouldn't be surprised if the type of protein powder makes a big difference in the texture.
Hope you're all safe! I tried making these and for some reason mine came out much gooeyer. They didn't get solid and firm like yours, so I'll have to try again. Thinking maybe my protein powder scoops are smaller? I'm not sure. But I will say... they were DELICIOUS. My kids wolfed them down.
Thank you!! All safe after the storm!!! Sorry yours came out gooeyer!! I would say if they come out to wet again after blending just add in more oats or protein!! Could be a difference in protein powders
I just tried this recipe. I made the peanut butter bars, replacing the protein powder with 3 scoops of vanilla Huel black and sprinkling some salt and brown sugar on top. Not bad honestly, I skipped the alulose as I figured the vanilla flavour would work just as well and I wasn't wrong. It could have maybe been a little bit sweeter, but otherwise it's a solid recipe. Works out to be around 150kcal per square
I use agave nectar for sweetener because it doesn't raise your blood sugar and it's natural. I make sure it's non gmo and organic. I'm gonna try these recipes but replacing oatmeal with something else
I would've love a recipe without protein powder. A lot of the protein and the taste obviously comes from the protein powder and if you use a different one it can alter the taste a lot. Also since most protein powders contain sucralose for sweetening it might not be safe to heat them over 240 degrees.
I've made a few batches of this since I first watched it. I have made one change that saves my food processor. I process the oats and dry ingredient and dump that into my stand mixer then mix my PB and chickpeas and aquafaba in the food processor. Then I put all of it into my stand mixer for the final mix and knead. It works so much better than attempting the mix in the food processor. Also... I have taken the mix and put it into my waffle iron instead of baking in the bread tin and the crispy texture is great.
"They're unsweetened chocolate chips, so they taste horrible. Just horrible." 🤣🤣 I loved that because I found the same thing out the hard way. Adding that salt and cane sugar was definitely a good move. I made a chickpea-based pan of peanut butter blondies before and they turned out delicious, but the texture was kinda off. IIRC it was pretty crumbly. This denser mix with the protein powder looks perfect, though!
Excellent! I have a daughter w autism & AFRID but a gifted IQ. Will need to make both of these & let her think they are just treats. She has anemia, doesn’t get enough protein. Etc. same for me though I just got my first iron infusion. Cocoa powder is a good source of iron! Very excited to try these. I grind fresh wheat berries when I can to make her whole grain sour dough bread, whole grain brownies, whole grain pumpkin pancakes with ground nuts n seeds etc. Sadly I struggle to find the time often as I would like to for this stuff.
Anemic? I ran a hospital lab for 40 years. Eat raisins, dark leafy veg, AND grass fed beef. We were born with canine teeth. Beef, liver, and lamb are high in iron. Eat an orange or lemon juice with it to absorb iron more. It works. Hopefully, you were seen by a hematologist not just a primary care doc.

I started eating this combo for a few weeks now and it's been amazing. - 1 Box of Googles Cheddy Mac (35g protein - 1 Box of Chickpea Pasts Wegmans Organic (54g protein) - A little Unsweetened Almond Milk Wegmans to mix the powder. 90g+ protein + 1500 Calories and overall ends up being about 3lbs of food. Fills about 4 bowls worth of mac n cheese so i eat that early in the day and then push for other things as the day goes on to try to stick around 2400-3000 calories. Still room for a other things as well. But i usually do that 3 times a week instead of every day and otherwise just do the Chickpea pasta w/ a low sodium sauce + parmesan cheese or just the cheese and no sauce. I will say if you're not using to these kinds of foods it's not going to taste great, but as you get used to it more and more it becomes solid enough. But yeah.. overall been loving chickpeas so cool to consider more ideas for it.
It always bothers me when I see “protein-packed recipe” and get excited for something I might try…and then they dump a huge load of protein powder in. That’s an awful lot of commitment for an experiment…
Thanks for the hurricane tips, having two bar types helps avoid the rut. I had apples and commercial protein bars so making my own is a good idea. Hope you didn't have house damage and didn't loose power for a long time. Cheers from Altamonte.
Do you have a good recipe for the black bean brownies? I had one years ago but lost it and forgot all about them. I remember they were quite good. Thanks for reminding me about them!

He he he!! So glad to see that I'm not the only one not paying attention to my ingredients, once I put red cayenne pepper in my cinnamon buns instead of Cinamon. This looks delicious, can't wait to try. Hope you made it o.k. through the hurricane.
Just don't mix up white pepper powder and icing sugar! Unlabeled containers for the.. loss. It was pretty whack. Also ginger paste instead of garlic in a soup was pretty wild.
Came here to ask this as well! Since he was making them as prep for the hurricane, I want to say they would be safe at room temp in case the lights went out, but I would love to know for sure.
I live in a small apartment, and it is difficult to own large kitchen items like a food processor. I attempted the chickpea bars using my Vitamix and it started smoking. FAIR WARNING VITAMIX OWNERS!!!!! I ended up removing the mixture and hand mixing the remaining protein powder. They came out pretty damn good!
To cut the carbs the oats provide, I would swap out the oats with almond meal - not sure if that would be an even swap, would have to experiment. I like Naked Nutrition brand of peanut butter powder - not sweetened, just pure peanut powder.
Made the chocolate version a couple of days ago as I had all the ingredients.... I used Vega All in One Chocolate Nutritional Powder instead of protein powder and used a mung bean egg instead of aquafaba,.... Also mixed in chocolate chips... I, also, was thinking it wouldn't be sweet enough... After the bars cooled down I was sure it wasn't sweet enough.....and then the next morning..,the flavours kinda gelled and they tasted perfect....no adjustments necessary... Thanks

@@dreamervanroom Well, he did rinse them in the video... And I wouldn't add that liquid back anyway (it's likely full of salt and perhaps some preservatives as well), so I'm definitely rinsing them.
@@dreamervanroomagreed, he says only the black beans need to be rinsed but uses the FULL amount of aqua faba from both cans for each recipe. not really seeing the point of rinsing 😂
Now the question is, with the low bioavailability of plant nutrients how much of that protein your body actually uses? Just because the food has it doesn't mean your body will absorb it. A bite of beef liver gives your body more vitamin A than a bag full of carrots, because retinol is a absorbed way better than betacarotene, same thing with plant and animal proteins.

Thanks for the hurricane tips, having two bar types helps avoid the rut. I had apples and commercial protein bars so making my own is a good idea. Hope you didn't have house damage and didn't loose power for a long time. Cheers from Altamonte.
Banza chikpea pasta is incredibly healthy, tastes good, and has only 3 ingredients. It has become a staple in my house.
Yes
Looks amazing. I’m going to make these!
Love the new content, I wanna know ALL the ideas, recipes and things you chat about, love your work ❤
Gotta try black bean brownies sometime. So good
Do you have a good recipe for the black bean brownies? I had one years ago but lost it and forgot all about them. I remember they were quite good. Thanks for reminding me about them!
Love the printed note in the background!
I’m a new follower! I’ve been lured by your love of using garbanzo beans in many of your recipes since Ive been making a lot more vegan dishes! I’m here for it!😆🫘
Man, you look amazing! Super strong and healthy ❤. And i love your content and your recipes.
Wow haven't been here in a while and that is an impressive transformation! Congrats!
Love this! I have a ton of protein powder I need to get through and this will be a great way to do that. Hope you’re both safe!
You guys are looking awesome!! Vegan power!!!
He he he!! So glad to see that I'm not the only one not paying attention to my ingredients, once I put red cayenne pepper in my cinnamon buns instead of Cinamon. This looks delicious, can't wait to try. Hope you made it o.k. through the hurricane.
I put cayenne into my protein balls all the time- on purpose!
Just don't mix up white pepper powder and icing sugar! Unlabeled containers for the.. loss. It was pretty whack. Also ginger paste instead of garlic in a soup was pretty wild.
@@mikafoxx2717 Well, the only good thing is that I don't have white pepper powder at home. No risk of messing that up! 🤣🤣
How to store these bars, in fridge or room temp? And how long they stay good?
Came here to ask this as well! Since he was making them as prep for the hurricane, I want to say they would be safe at room temp in case the lights went out, but I would love to know for sure.
Fridge
We’ve been using beans in pies for ages! Good job!
In the filling or the shell?
I live in a small apartment, and it is difficult to own large kitchen items like a food processor. I attempted the chickpea bars using my Vitamix and it started smoking. FAIR WARNING VITAMIX OWNERS!!!!! I ended up removing the mixture and hand mixing the remaining protein powder. They came out pretty damn good!
To cut the carbs the oats provide, I would swap out the oats with almond meal - not sure if that would be an even swap, would have to experiment. I like Naked Nutrition brand of peanut butter powder - not sweetened, just pure peanut powder.
Nicely done Mark!
thank you!!!
Thanks for continuing to share your knowledge. 👍
Thank you soo much for being here and for being so kind!
Thanks
I gotta try these. Also how did it go with you during the hurricane? Miami didn't get jack. We were safe. Hope you guys are doing well.
Yesssss here it is! Hope you all are okay after the storm 😊
Pemmican is easier to make, lasts long and is digested better with no plant toxins or anti-nutrients.
Damn. Those both look delicious! Can't wait to try them. Also, hope you and your family have stayed safe.
Bro I haven’t seen you in so long! You look great!!! I see some solid muscles and shyt. Well done brother
Love these recipes thanks for posting 🙋
Great recipe, looking to make these myself. FYI.. the recipes on your site are not easily parsable via anylist recipe capture. You might want to split the two bar recipes so that I can add them easily to anylist. Thanks for the recipes!
😂 quite a few laugh-out-loud moments in this one! I love the recipe 😊, gonna do it today! But I hope you guys were safe through the storm!
Thank you! Totally safe!!
Thanks mate, it is delicious!!
I could be wrong but you are looking slimmer than before, I could be wrong. I havent seen your vids in a while and you look slimmer. Kudos if your weightloss was intentional. 🎉
Looks so good. Too funny when you tried the vegan c chips before baked a honest yuck. Also your wife saying you can't tell it was chickpeas when it was black beans lol.
Hope you and yours got through the hurricane OK. The recipes are a great idea, for these uncertain times, especially. Thanks for posting!
Just open the can a tiny bit, pour out the juice and when there is no more liquid, open it up fully. You are welcome.
You will still need to rinse it anyway.
One less thing to wash. Saving energy.
You mean you’ll need to rinse the Aquapher off the beans before you add the aqua back to the bins? That really makes no sense.
This is awesome and unexpected! I have to try making them this weekend!
ahh you're going to love them!!!
“Aqua fava”…. The fancy way to say “bean water”. 😂😂
Wow okay I absolutely NEED to make these
Wishing you all the best with the weather. I love this recipe and am wondering if garbanzo flour would work and how to convert the amounts.
I can’t wait to try these! They look delish
I prefer Honey and whey protein to plant so ill make these with thiae substitutions. Itll be tasty!
Do you store the bars in fridge? And how long do they store for? Thanks for the recipies!
Thanks, I will give this a try
Aqua Faba... Literally just means Bean Water.
Yeah not sure why he uses the old latin name but thank I didn't realize that.
@@BearerOfLightSonOfGodbecause that’s what it’s called as it pertains to cooking
@@ryanalldread yeah no one care when we use Sous-vide, its just under vacuum in French.
Boom
TY ~
These look great. I hope you guys weathered Milton well.
Thank you for sharing this interesting recipe. New subscriber from Prague 😊💯💯💯
Is there an alternative to the aquafaba? I don't use canned foods; I just boil beans to soften them.
I don't usually use canned beans so can I use the juice from my home cooked beans for the aqua fava for the black beans?
Now the question is, with the low bioavailability of plant nutrients how much of that protein your body actually uses? Just because the food has it doesn't mean your body will absorb it.
A bite of beef liver gives your body more vitamin A than a bag full of carrots, because retinol is a absorbed way better than betacarotene, same thing with plant and animal proteins.
