MrLiamTheLlama I disagree, it is of course amazing but I don’t think it carries as much power as it should, he doesn’t accent the first 3 notes. I think the Vienna Phil//Bernstein is better
Sway I totally agree, Tarkovi’s sound is second to none. I feel as though the VP/Bernstein edges it though just because it carries the right amount of ‘gusto’ required for this opening.
Theo Edwards i don‘t think so. I can‘t listen to the bad trumpet sound in Bernsteins version. Of course he played the accents clearer but it sounds very cold, stiff and not as flying and gentle like here. Tarkovi plays the opening also very energetic but also with so much easieness it‘s ridiculous how wonderful it is.
This part just came to my mind and I was trying to remember where it was from. I said to myself "Mahler. It has to be Mahler." I then reminded me that someone had sent me this video and I remembered it was the 7th symphony.
Bravo Sir Simon Rattle and BerlinPhil. Gustav Mahler is dynamic, vibrant, sound. The orchestration of Mahler is extremely complex. Mahler explores the full potential of the orchestra. All videos are saved in "favorites" and I watch it several times! Greetings from Brazil. Congratulations!
@sakari820 Beautifully said! I remember having the same experience as a teenager (a while ago!) with this very movement of Mahler's 7th. I had the speakers up full blast on my stereo and my face down in the carpet of my bedroom. My dad walked in and thought something was wrong! The first time is always the best, and I guess I"ll never forget it..
@skybart Exactly! My friends think it quite odd I can stand even a couple seconds of this! Except for the band ones, of course, but they're the best you can ask for. Thank you for sharing your experience with me, I can completely relate. Even if that time was some time ago!
Please, cool down... My comment does not imply any negative judgement. I just explained a mechanism, that's all. They are one of the best trumpet sections in the world and they make every possible effort to get the best result.
One of my favorites. Great sound, but a little quick on the tempo. Mahler said that inspiration for this finale came from being rowed across a lake. Rattle has him in a speed boat.
Wieland Welzel and Raymond curfs are the right timpanists to play this piece. They play with more power. I heard bpo's bbc proms performance of this piece and the timpanist was rainer seegers. He is a great timpanist too, but i think sometimes he use way too low power.
Actually, that's a very typical trick used in the professional orchestras everywhere (and thats includes me). If, for any reason, the second or the third trumpet (that have been for long time playing notes in medium register), fails this high C o just sound not enought loud, the first trumpet that have been playing in that high register for more time doubles the note for maintain the quality of sound. And it sounds fantastic!!. Is that negative?? I completely say "no"!!!!
I saw chicago ,with bareboim in Malher's 5. In Brussels ,long time ago. Still love& remeber the evening, specially ,the Brass. Ant first trumpet. Super cool

that trumpet part in the beginning is insanely musical and brings a tear to my eye everytime i hear it. so amazing!
Thats the most in-tune trumpet EVER. Give the guy a statue
1:29 Principal Trumpet played all three high C's - very smart.
Yeah it sounds incredible awkward the the notes before the c's
you'll never hear that opening trumpet line played better

MrLiamTheLlama Listen to the LSO version conducted by Michael Tilson Thomas or CSO version conducted by Solti, those were really gd ones as well
Such a difficult part for trumpets and it´s so perfect played here..
Nice trumpet section!
Rattle is by far one of the best Mahler interpreters alive. His conducting of the 5th rivals that of Solti/Chicago performance with Herseth.
It's the beginning of the finale.
When gabor goes up to the high C…. How can you play that so perfectly. I have Played Mahler 7 often and heard it often but never this perfect
Super...
Goosebumps Gabor!
Gabor sings over the entire orchestra
Beautiful! Perfect! Congratulations to Mahler, Rattle, Berliner Philharmoniker and Berliner's Philharmoniker musicians!
I love it when the oboists make the oboe a directional instrument...
This part just came to my mind and I was trying to remember where it was from.

Mahler’s symphony is great!!
You will never hear the Opening trumpet line played any better
Lol
The best version ever! Especially the trumpet and the timpani
I love this Symphony!!!
0:45 That kid likes those horns
Wtr
The horns!!!! Bravo
Wonderful! Beautiful! AMAZING!
I love this, with all my teenage heart.
mahler writes the best finales
And slow movements
And everything else
These high notes on trumpet at the beginning of the video are beautiful, they are perfect!
Hope that boy in the first row is a big Mahler fan now :)
oh my god that trumpet player...
Great Mahler sound !!
A melhor Orquestra Filarmônica do Mundo.
BERLIM.
It's Andrej Zust, the newest member of our orchestra.
Brilliant timpani player!

Mahler is an amazing composer and was probably the greatest since Wagner
Je Javier cant really say that
this is crazy.....the horns and trumpets...
Wonderful Beautiful, Klasse
Somebody forgot to get the camera on the low brass section right near the end. Such a great orch.
0:47 i bet that boy in the first row picked up playing drums afterwards
((( Sami )))**

wow...amazing trumpet setup
actually it is like this.. at least in the high C. If you look attentively the first trumpet is continuing to play with the second and the third.
Rattle is full plain Mahlerian ! Viva !

Gabor Tarkovi is amazing!
EXCELENTE
Watch it again more closely, it was one guy nailing the high note.
❤❤❤
Stefan Dohr É uma lenda.
I like the sideways trumpets.
Who is the girl behind the timpanist?
@bachboy111 YAY! Go timpani.... Some of us can only dream about playing this!
Mahler Symphony Number 7, Mvt 5 Rondo-Finale
One of my favorites. Great sound, but a little quick on the tempo. Mahler said that inspiration for this finale came from being rowed across a lake. Rattle has him in a speed boat.
Satzes
2:36 He is so happy -_-
who is the 2 horn?
@lbrinin1701 No. Everytime you here it they play it live...extra for you! :-)
what movement is this?
aus welchem satz ist dieser ausschnitt?
Aus dem letzten (dem 5.)
Brilliant start for 4th movement.
It's the 5th movement lol
According to the comments the kid likes something for sure!

This is because really is the same person...Gabor is playing the three C
OMG Gabor...how...
Because I like Chicago
it is the same person nailing it three times ;) thats the reason! Whatch Gabor ;)

Here the strings and brass come apart at :49? Stresses the timp guy out.
stop attracting attention to yourself, im 14 and i know a bunch of teenagers that like orchestral music.
Who Dislike He can't play it really :P
it's not an octave slur..but yes it' great,..
Very good but Chicago symphony is by far the best orchestra in the world
You're right about the CSO; especially in Mahler.
I saw chicago ,with bareboim in Malher's 5. In Brussels ,long time ago.
Still love& remeber the evening, specially ,the Brass. Ant first trumpet. Super cool
tim smith not true. Berlin Philharmonics by far
naaaah
Lol
