Brian really paid his dues. Studied music theory in and out of high school, listened and analyzed songs of singing groups of the time like the Four Freshmen. It was no accident that he was able to come up with such greatharmonies and chord/song structures. but beyond all that, he was a genius.
Like the Beatles and the Rolling Stones...but when you hear the Beach Boys theres just more heart and a story thats there sometimes can't put a finger on it but its just better
@@devinmichaelroberts9954this is debatable. However the only thing I’ll offer is that it was Brian Wilson vs John, Paul, George… & from the production & composing aspect, Wilson, at the very least, held his own ground against 2-3 of some of the greatest musical minds to ever live
I’m reading Timothy White’s excellent Beach Boys bio “The Nearest Faraway Place” and just got to the point where they recorded this demo…God bless RUclips; always makes reading a multi media experience; I’m sure I’ll find their first TV performance too!
@@AntheaCarson No, it was Dennis who was the surfer. In fact, he used to surf with Daryl Dragon (later the Captain of Captain and Tennille). Brian preferred inner tubes. Carl preferred boats. Mike preferred car's.
Pictured are from studio...about that era...but this song was recorded in their garage and this is actually a demo in Hite Morgan's house. Pure..sincere.
The original tape wasn't rediscovered until the estate of Hite Morgan was cleaned out. Murray Wilson wasn't involved at this point. This was their very first recording session in the home studio of producer Hite Morgan.
So boys, I'd like you to sing this as fast as you can... if we get radio play the DJs have to get the commercials around you. So keep it short+sweet! And I wannit on the first take- no messing around!
Mike Brian and Al had already graduated. I'm probably going to get this wrong but, I want to say Mike was class of 1957 or 58, and then Al and Brian were one year behind. I want to say Dennis would have been class of 1960 and Carl would've been 64? David Marks is either the same age as Carl or one year younger. Their ages are the only thing I really never learned about. Or at least, never cared to remember

The song that started it all. So aptly named too

Brian submitted this song to his composition class at Hawthorn High. He got an F .... Decades later the grade was changed to an A
They were so freaking good

Never heard this version, thanks for posting..love it!!!😁
A rarity for all Beach Boys fans.

nah ... brian wilson is a genius.. but the beatles together as a group have so many more great songs

Dennis was the one who suggested that Brian and Mike write a song about surfing.
Because he was the only one in the group that surfed
Dennis is the real surfer 🏄♀️

Like this better than the "official" version... it's fast but the timing is better
Beach Boys probably about my all time favorite band from 60s so well rounded with memories nd love them too this day

Thank god "dad" Murry Wilson didn't toss this away!

No Al Jarden. David Marks is the 5th Beach Boy in these early photos.

David Marks in pics...look him up...
Love it! Check out "the Lost Beach Boy" for the whole David M. story. Quite a tale of squandered opportunity.
He's the Jewish Beach Boy.
@@iVenge like anyone would know what that even means
Doctor Feinstone Well, it means that he is Jewish. 🇮🇱✡️
Al Jardine is present playing upright bass.
surfing craze in 1960s led to the invention of the skateboard for midwesterners who had no oceans to surf in. At least, that's what I remember.
Technically, wouldn't they still have been "The Pendle-Tones" when this demo was recorded?
This wasn't even on the good vibrations box
I dig David Marks
Surf's up, bitches!
If you were in the worst position in life..and heard this song you'd know Amwerica is were you needed to head
That’s no way that’s them in the picture
