Thanks for the magic … the beach boys and the Wilson brothers. Brian , Carl, and Dennis . Also Mike Love and Allan Jardine. You don’t know the impact you guys had .
the vocal harmonies on Surfin' USA show us what Brian Wilson meant when he said that when he began creating the "SOUND" of the Beach Boys, he wanted the band's vocal harmonies to sound like the hit vocal group that sang slow ballads, named The Four Freshmen ...BUT with this difference...with the Beach Boys, Brian Wilson said those sweet harmonies would be "hopped up...REALLY hopped up !"

robert beatty Paul was definitely a better vocalist than the other Beatles, but they were all great singers. Listen to Anna (go to him), John gives one of the best vocal performances of all time.
Dennis takes off and Crazy dancer Mike falls behind...several lines before catches up. Carl really smokes the solo while watching, with Al, the surfer girls exit the stage.
I always thought it was interesting that John Lennon had a great deal of respect for Brian Wilson and the Beach Boys music. He thought Wilson was one of the best American modern music writers. Lennon also said they were not just a lounge act but a real, legit hard core rock act when they wanted to be. Wilson's direction Lennon said back in 1980 (bad year for him) was all that stopped them being that. He also said they were highly talented with their unique instruments. Here at 1:47 you can get an idea of them letting it rip with the lead break. Lots of energy there. Not just the drummer.
At 1:58 they're all looking to their right watching the hot dancers exit the stage. I have noticed in other Beach Boy videos that they are often seen checking out the background dancers. I guess dancers were preferred over crazy airhead groupies.
If you look closely you can see one of the two bikini dancers give the band a wave as they exit the stage(which was poss what Al was saying to Carl as they were playing the solo)
That's right but they didn't want the fans to know. It was his "Idea" that they do Surfing Songs in the first place. Co-Incidentally "Surfin" was a Song that Brian wrote for his Senior Music Class that got an F but made him a millionare in future years.
Wow, devastating knowledge. Like when I found out "Rocket Man" Elton John never actually went into outer space, and Ringo never really swam to the octopus's garden. Why don't singers tell the truth?

Wow. Carl is embracing the Rickenbacker 330-12 here (it's a 330-12 b/c it's thinner profile than the 360 George Harrison used). Can tell it's height of Beatles invasion b/c gone is the Fender for Carl from earlier concerts. He played that 12-string like a boss no matter they're not really solo friendly especially for double-stop bends Carl loved to play. He plays an abreviated solo here to suit. Every musician embraced Rickenbackers as soon as A Hard Days' Night came out. I wonder if Murry forced it on him as a competition for The Beatles though.

Dick Dale was whose music was featured in Pulp Fiction and then Girls Aloud the most successful Group to come of Reality TV in The UK sampled The Melody for their Debut Single Sound Of The Underground.
That is the most high powered Beach Boys performance I've seen.
