Oh, how I LOVED Diana Dors! I knew of her only in her latter years, but thankfully her popularity was restored by the time I was watching movies and TV in the 1970s. She was a strong, confident woman who owned her past and present and was determined to write her future. It was a shame how her marriages to Dennis Hamilton and Dickie Dawson went, and the alienation of her sons was bitter, but she went on to regenerate her brand and refigure it in a typically English 'Ooh Matron' tongue-in-cheek fashion. And find love with Alan Lake. I adored her even at her heaviest, because she was so real, so natural, so true, and I was gutted when she died. She fought her cancer and thought she had it licked, but in the end faced it like a real trouper. I have missed her deeply for the almost 40 years since her passing.

I remember Diana Dors on Blankety Blank or Celebrity Squares (or both). Also A Goat for Two Farthings (or whatever it was) and also Yield to the Night. She was an icon of her times. Tributes on TV when she died, pages and pages of newspaper coverage. She was nothing like Marilyn Monroe, she was Diana Dors.

Respect to a lady that really did achieve a lot in her own right, yes she was compared to Marilyn Monroe but so was every good looking blonde in Hollywood. Diana did a lot of movies even before the blonde hair and people forget she did a wack of movies before aged 17 she was was an original from England. I only recently discovered Diana Dors but I now can see that she was a great talented actress, a real lady and she had a great sense of humor, she actually reminds me of my Aunt. I just wish I knew of her before as great actors and actresses like that shouldn't be forgotten ❤

In a way, she never left the 3-14yo starry-eyed girl mindset that never knew her real father; setting course for one disastrous relationship after another: Dennis-weirdly raising(controlling) her, Richard-shamelessly riding a dying wave, and then pitifully Alan being raised by Diana. Her choices in partners robbed her and her poor little boys of normality. If she'd parlayed her fame into a recording career, she'd been able to give them as well as herself peace and solvancy. All never had a chance....
