I just started working over night and I try to sleep during the day which isn't easy in fact my first 2 days I went 48 hours with no sleep because I couldn't and started not feeling well. How bad is this for my health?

I don't think that occasional all nighters are bad for your body

In my non-professional opinion, shift work isn't great for your health, but it isn't the "killer" that we have been led to believe.
I worked shiftwork for 15 years. Both my parents did for their entire careers.
      What worked for me:
#1 If you want to sleep during the day, make your room as dark as possible. If you can't afford the special curtains, right away, no problem. During university I put a couple dark beach towels over my existing curtains, worked perfectly.
#2 A white noise (or brown nosie) machine will change your life. Takes a couple days or nights to get used to, but then it erases all the noises that disturb you. Fairly cheap, too.
Before i had a white noise machine, I slept with foam earplugs (again it takes a while to get used to), but once you do get used to them, you will sleep like a rock!😊

If you battle with serious insomnia, is better to sleep with a sleeping tablet or have no sleep at all?

I would say no sleeping meds. Studies show you only get an extra 20m of sleep and can be drowsy and suffer other side effects such as sleep walking.

Does anyone know if the light from an Ereader has a similar effect on the body?

Yeah, try to read near a warm light source with zero backlight on your device.

    Joshua F. M.:
I have learned so much from the minimalists, but with each new video I watch (not necessarily this one), you seem to be straying from minimalism, and you just (I don't know a kinder way to this this),but you are coming across as someone who loves the sound of his own voice far too much.
P.S. Born and raised in Canada, live here still. About 85% of the country has sunrise before 8 am, right now in June on the East Coast the sun is up by 5:40 a.m.
    You make me feel like you're a know-it-all. I hope I'm wrong.
I believe that real wisdom is knowing that every individual has far more questions to ask than they have answers to give.
