I see many patients who have insomnia and most of the time they want sleeping tablets - But actually most pharmacists, GPs, nurse practitioners prefer not to recommend sleeping tablets. As insomnia can often be improved by changing your daytime and bedtime habits or by improving your bedroom environment.
See your GP, Pharmacist or Nurse Practitioner if you're still having difficulty getting to sleep after trying these techniques.
WHAT IS INSOMNIA?
Insomnia means poor sleep. About one third of adults do not get as much sleep as they would like. Poor sleep can mean:
• Not being able to get off to sleep.
• Waking up too early.
• Waking for long periods in the night.
• Not feeling refreshed after a night's sleep.
If you have poor sleep, particularly over a long period of time, it can severely affect your life, as it can cause:
• Tiredness (fatigue) and loss of energy in the daytime.
• Poor concentration.
• Loss of interest in usual activities.
Irritability.
• Depression and anxiety.
WHAT IS A NORMAL AMOUNT OF SLEEP?
About 6-9 hours per night is average for most adults. Most people establish a pattern that is normal for them in their early adult life. However, as you become older, it is normal to sleep less. For most people it takes less than thirty minutes to fall asleep.
So, everyone is different. What is important is that the amount of sleep that you get should be sufficient for you, and that you usually feel refreshed and not sleepy during the daytime.
HOW TO SLEEP BETTER?
Insomnia can often be improved by changing your daytime and bedtime habits or by improving your bedroom environment.
Making small changes may help you to get a good night's sleep. Try some of the methods below for a few weeks to see if they help.
See your GP, Pharmacist or Nurse Practitioner if you're still having difficulty getting to sleep after trying these techniques.
DAYTIME HABITS:
• Set a specific time for getting up each day. Try to stick to this time, seven days a week, even if you feel you haven't had enough sleep. This should help you sleep better at night.
• Don't take a nap during the day.
• Exercise daily, but don't exercise for at least four hours before going to bed.
BEDTIME HABITS:
• Stop drinking tea and coffee for a few hours before bedtime.
• Avoid drinking alcohol and smoking, particularly shortly before going to bed.
• Don't eat a big meal just before bedtime.
• Don't use back-lit electronic devices shortly before going to bed.
• Don't lie in bed feeling anxious about lack of sleep. Instead, get up, go to another room for about 20 minutes and do something else, such as reading or listening to soft music, before trying again.
• Write a list of your worries and any ideas to solve them before going to bed. This may help you forget about them until the morning.
• Link to relaxation techniques: www.nhs.uk/conditions/stress-...
BEDROOM ENVIRONMENT:
• Use thick blinds or curtains or wear an eye mask if the early morning sunlight or bright street lamps affect your sleep.
• Make sure your bedroom is at a comfortable temperature for sleeping.
• Wear ear plugs if noise is a problem.
• Don't use your bedroom for anything other than sleeping or sex. Avoid watching television, making phone calls, eating or working while you're in bed.

I had dreadful insomnia for 9 months, the only method I could sleep was by taking medications. Finally my physician recommended this sleep program LiveWithInsomnia.blogspot.in
. I was sleeping like a baby by week Five. People who have suffered from insomnia for quite a long time must also try this. My sleep was brought back on track!?
王斌 thank you for sharing, would you happen to have an updated link? the one provided said the blog has been removed, ahh!
I still have some sleep problems, but I have learned that it’s okay. This happens to EVERYONE, you are NOT alone and definitely don’t be scared of bedtime! What has helped me is just breathing deeply and exhaling, once you find your “comfy” spot for bed, try your best not to move, no matter how much your body or brain wants you too. Eventually, after some time, your body will start to give up and relax, and you’ll be bored enough that your brain will eventually relax too. It’s just really important not to worry about not sleeping. It’s okay, if you can’t sleep that night, you can sleep during the day if you have time. Music doesn’t work for me, but what I found very helpful was Vicks vapor rub or any oils that you can put near your nostrils so you can smell the scent and rubbing some on your temples will help sooth any headaches and calm your brain down. If all else fails, there’s medication out there for you! Just do your best, and don’t overthink about it. Go to sleep when you feel sleepy enough and just go to sleep, don’t worry about anything else.
ahh thank you!!

But the thing is I am only 16 and I suffering from it😭 the day before yesterday I went to bed at 2 am and couldn't sleep until 3 am than slept at 3 and wakes up at 4 am than couldn't sleep again for 1-1.5 hours than sleep for 1 hours again than I got woken up by mom at 10 am by then I only had 3-3.5 hours of sleep and today, today was even worse I got go bed at 2am and woke up at 9 cause i couldn't freakin sleep all night barely even 2.5 hours 😭

I've tried it all, and it's getting worse. I think it's time to call it a day.
Dealt with this for 3 months straight. I just stopped caring about getting enough sleep one day and accepted it. I also made my bedroom a place of rest and relaxation. If I have a bad night now, like everyone does here and there. I just reset by going to my living room for 20 mins and then head back to bed when I'm ready, this is usually when I fall asleep fast. Also, I implement minor sleep restriction. Making sure I wake up at the same time everyday even if I have a bad nights sleep. This acts as a strong anchor, making me more sleepy at night. My biggest advice out of all this is, just stop caring and looking up blogs and videos on all of this crap. Try to find something else to occupy your mind. Easier said than done, but anyone can over come this. Just live today, because you don't know what tomorrow brings. Your body will reset and you will start sleeping great again (only took me a few day). Now go out and do something you love. And if you cant sleep...who cares! You can do it!
You get it jake!
Thank you for your words❤🙏🏾I needed this

One of the most important things you can do to get back to sleeping is "Sun Gazing" most of us aren't getting enough sunlight. The sun has Melatonin & Serotonin, which helps w/the sleep wake cycle. Most of us are lazy & don't do what's necessary when we have a lot of trouble sleeping. Sometimes it boils down to good old fashion hard work!

in conclusion:
0:58 -> 1. set a specific time to go to sleep each day (eg 6am, the tiredness in the morning is useful for falling asleep later in the evening)
1:17 -> 2. exercise in the day
1:27 -> 3. don’t work in your bedroom
1:31 -> 4. don’t nap during the day
1:35 -> 5. try not to go on your phone or watch tv before going to bed (this reduces the melatonin produced which is the hormone which makes you feel sleepy)
1:46 -> 6. avoid big meals before going to bed
1:49 -> 7. avoid alcohol, caffeinated drinks and smoking especially in the evening
2:12 -> 8. try calming techniques
2:24 -> 9. have your bedroom at the right temperature (15°c to 25°c)
2:32 -> 10. use thick curtains to block out light (morning sun, street lamps etc)
2:43 -> 11. use the right bedding for the time of the year
Thank you so much!

My insomnia was destroying every part of my life. It stole my hobbies, my health, my work, and now my manhood. Thank god I found this >>> InsomniaTreatment45.blogspot.de
I have a weird but awesome tip for breaking Insomnia, you can try it anyway, but it will work best if you have sometimes fallen asleep fully clothed in bed because you were so tired. There are 2 reasons going to bed fully dressed (shoes optional) works, one is that it creates distinction from your recent failed attempts to sleep (it basically resets "sleep hygiene") and secondly (of course) it reminds your body/subconscious/unconscious of how you felt when you were too tired to even get undressed. I just had the urge to do this one night, and I didn't understand the urge, but then I got sleep (I didn't fall asleep instantly but still did tons better, and slept longer and deeper) and by morning I realized why it worked. You could try variations, if you normally sleep in PJ's, go naked or vise versa, or you could sleep on top of the bed, or in an unusual place just to break the pattern, once you have a week of getting to sleep you can start going to bed with fewer clothes on till you are back to sleeping in whatever you normally sleep in. other tip, don't have a bed time if you can help it, just do stuff till you want to go to bed because you are tired, trying to get to sleep/bed early because I think I "should" is the worst thing for insomnia, also try taking Magnesium, Potassium or maybe an electrolyte drink. But the first tip is the winner honestly!
i am also suffering insomnia age 16 cuz i skip sleeping and i regretted it and know i wanted to live a healthy lifestyle but this wont let me sleep.
@@vhackieee Try the tip I mentioned, going to bed fully clothed (shoes optional). It helps break the pattern by making you feel different, and it reminds your subconscious of times you were extremely tired.
I'm watching this at 6 am, I spent 20 hrs waking and 8 hrs just in my bed with my eyes closed. I noticed that the things you listed was mostly what i did, I exercised and made sure I was tired.

my problem is not falling asleep but waking up in the night multiple times. its terrible. im calm in my head when i fall asleep and i fall asleep easily but i keep waking up after a few hours and then even more with less time in between. i have a good sleep schedule most days and sleep 7,5+ hours, i dont drink, smoke, do drugs, i workout very fanatically and do boxing, i eat very good. i have had a very very stressful moment a month ago, but i wouldnt label it as a trauma. i dont even think about it anymore. yet since then i just havent gotten a night of sleep without waking up multiple times. i pray its just some aftermath of it, and it goes away. i started meditating and showering cold (wim hof) i hope it works.😥
thank you for making this short and sweet

Your honesty has made me to sub. Keep it up . You are so REAL and you really have a passion for people . God bless you Abraham inspiring pharmacist👏👏👏👏
Thanks for subbing!
Been having trouble sleeping especially for the past 3 and a half years mostly because at times I still get angry or upset about things that have unfairly happned to me in my life. It comes and goes but last few weeks some frustration has come back and has unsettled me allot. Want to avoid sleeping tablets. Will try the electronics advice thank you.
How to get rid from chronic insomnia i tried everything but nothing works
We all should try to avoid negative thoughts which in some instances can occur when trying to sleep. Hand difficulties over to the Lord like a closed chapter; Don't open it again. O Jesus, I surrender myself to You, take care of everything.
I couldn’t really sleep so I always have to find myself a comfortable position for me to sleep but my mom got mad at me for moving around too much
Couldn't agree with you more, great video!
Moudy K thank you
Its nice to see a pharmacist, whos easy on the eyes ( sorry couldn't help myself) but he actually cares ❤ about us not using sleepers. I'm lucky if I get a smile from my local chemist, please can you come and work in my chemist?
Listening to meditative music before bed can help you fall asleep faster and stay asleep longer. The music's slow, calming tempo and soothing melodies can help to relax your mind and body, making it easier to drift off to sleep. Additionally, the music can help to block out distracting noises, creating a more peaceful environment for sleep
My problem is that I rely on my phone to much. And when I've been rly tired I don't wanna sleep tho I know my body need one. I can't or haven't had the relax condition to actually sleep for a long time, and I think I need it but I don't know how, and I hate give away my phone cuz that makes me feel like I'm forced.

Great Tips!! Thank you so Much!!
As an insomniac myself my top 3 tips are to a- accept it. b- learn to stop obessing over it (which is difficult). and c - dont let a bad night sleep stop you or prevent you from doing daily acitivites.
Bad sleep won't kill you. So don't worry about it.
R u sure im suffering this from 10 months im just 21 male
Yeah but I wanna grow taller 😭 I don’t wanna be 4’11 forever, god this stuff is hard 💀
@@saizadmehadi2507 same bro ever since I started this new job working early 6AM and my neighbors are to loud, smoking loud music. Haven’t been the same :( barely get 4 hours sometimes 3 hours.
Great comment your right don't let it ruin your next day . Try and stay positive. I think if we ovethink it , it makes it worse . How you sleeping today ? Any tips
@@alejandrocasarez5624 Hey, yeh my sleep is a lot better these days. I still of course have bad days but then everyone does. I would suggest getting the headspace app. There is a category specifically for sleep. Do 20 mins a day. Gamechanger.
I think it’s all in my head for me. I was able to eat at 1am, watch Netflix and go to bed like nothing by 4am. Now? I can’t go to sleep at all because one day I decided to stay up all day. That fucked me up. Ever since I’m struggling for at least 2 hrs of sleep. It’s making me anxious now and the thought of not being able to sleep makes it even harder to sleep

Currently watching @ 4:40 am . I recovered from Covid but now my sleeping schedule is messed up . These tips helped me kind of figure out what to do to get back in routine . Glad to hear I’m not the only one with these problems . I get annoyed Bc I can’t sleep and sometimes cry because I’m trying too hard to sleep and can’t till like really late . I’ve gone through this before and gotten back on track only my problem of not being able to sleep hadn’t gone to as late as 4 am b4 . 🙏🏼 hopefully it works
How r u feeling now
I have COVID currently and was diagnosed with insomnia when I was like 12. I’m 24. It sucks. Even with COVID, I can’t sleep.
Did you figure out how to correct your post-Covid insomnia? How long did it last?
same
I’ll take some of your advice and tips but not all of them & that’s because I do most of the stuff you “mentioned” not to do, but thank you very much for your help and assistance❤️have a nice day !
Glad I could help
Some of this u said did help I’m depressed and wanna cry to at the same time and I can’t sleep and I be sleeping at 5 in the morning and waking up at 4am and when it’s time to sleep eat night I can’t and it keeps repeating and I’m 16 but I messed up because I’m this quarantine I started not to care and sleep late and that’s what’s happening to me right know so what I’m going to do is not to try to sleep and sleep at night so my body be tired and when it’s night I feel asleep and then fix it

I hope they help!
thank you doctor cause I haven't change my bed sheet for this month probably ,that why I had hard time fallen asleep
A couple months ago I started getting up in the morning and playing basketball. After a week my sleep schedule was actually good. I was up every morning at 6:45 and asleep before 10:30, and it stayed that way for about 2 months. Then one day there was thunderstorms so I didn’t go, I fell right back asleep. Then the next day was Christmas and I was going to have a rest day on Christmas. Then on Boxing Day I slept through my alarms, then I couldn’t get up the next day. Now it’s January 14th and I still haven’t gotten back to going everyday. It really messed up my sleep schedule. Anyway that was really long but basically I’m just saying that getting up at the same time every day helps.

Apart from the music that fried my sleep deprived brain, that was very helpful information. Thank you.
I had gotten insomnia back in 2022 waking up in between feeling tired all because of me using phone and tablet. I had watched alot of videos to know how to cure my insomnia but all of them had included medication until I'm finding your video now...
Me watching at 4:10 am

God my eyes burn so bad!I thought this might be a clickbait cause you know you look good🥺but these are genuine tips😊
👍🏻 this is actually happening for me, thank you
You’re welcome 😊
Very informative video. For better sleep reduce negative thoughts and overthinking. Keep life simple by avoiding negative social media, stop comparing your life with others and avoid constipation as it affects the mind. Your breathing is closely related to the brain [mind]. To relax and for better sleep sit on a chair or lie down especially before sleep, neck straight, eyes closed and observe the sensations of your incoming--outgoing breath at the entrance of the nostrils for 5-10-15 minutes or more. Don’t fight your thoughts. With daily practice the mind will relax. No deep breathing needed. Observe your breath anywhere-anytime even if you wake up mid-night. Make this a daily habit to have a better life. Best wishes--Counsellor.
There’s good information in this video. For me, being active during the day, listening to relaxing and calming music, doing guided meditation daily seems to help a lot.
Thanks for sharing!
I have never had trouble falling asleep and last week I started getting headaches from insomnia but this helped me alot
