- We received a suggestion of me taking Peters photo for a change and thought it could make an interesting video considering I am not a photographer. I started off super excited about the whole thing but started to get really nervous when it came time for the actual shoot - a feeling I'm sure is pretty common when you're just starting out as a photographer!

This really makes the point that good photography isn't about the gear you buy...
YES thank you!!
Hear hear!
The chemistry between you two is simply enjoyable and relaxing
Glad you enjoyed it
I’ve never enjoyed a RUclips video this much thank you all for the lesson taught and the entertainment. I will watch this every time before taking photos.
Glad you enjoyed it Christopher
@@PeterCoulsonPhotographer So I wanted to take photos of my wife and practice this, it was very cool and effective. We talked about the day, our kids, and just made each other laugh. In the end she said, I don't know what you did differently today, but it was fun. I got the shot I wanted and that's all that matters. Thank you again. Have a lovely new week.
Now you have to find the right words to use on all your subjects
@@PeterCoulsonPhotographer agreed and will keep at it.
It is difficult to not be captivated by the chemistry between you two - PLEASE NEVER stop!!! I am loving it.
This was very interesting, but in a slightly different way than normal - but bang on, the issues we all have as we try to grasp, what you do with so much ease.
Thanks so much
Definitely a great representation of why communicating with your model and why having a vision before hand is important.
Finally! The long awaited photoshoot! Great job, Bec! Peter, you're an amazing mentor to Bec.
Stay awesome you guys!
Thanks so much, you too :D
That was so much fun to watch! Really hit the nail on the head too: taking great portraits isn't all that easy, and neither is modeling!
Thank you so much 😀
I think this underscores how important it is to have a good rapport with the model. I always talk to them and get general info before we start shooting like what music they want in the background. as for the shoot I know what lighting I'm using, where I want them to pose, what I want them to wear, I give them reference pictures for the look and feel.
it helps so much and like Peter said you better know what you are doing and have a plan don't just show up and be as lost as the model is.
Awesome to hear, thanks so much, glad you enjoyed this
@@PeterCoulsonPhotographer I love these videos I do this for fun and mostly as a hobby I learn so much every time you shoot one of these, please keep them coming!
That wine glass always kinda appears out of nowhere. It must be a super power.
Lot of psychology and thought coming from the photographer on getting the model comfortable - good session 👍
Thanks heaps :)
As a photographer, comforting confidence works best for me
thank you for the concept of 'constant talk' which puts the model at ease and avoids those silent stretches where the modal may wonder if the photographer knows what he is doing...
Bec, you did pretty well and didn’t try to fake it at all. Peter knew what would happen and it was a fine learning moment for me, others too I’m sure. I hope you keep learning, you have the opportunity most of us would love to have. With practice, and your modelling background you should be able to become comfortable as a photographer in no time. And, thanks to Peter.
Thanks so much
Amazing to see how reluctant she was to take a picture at first!
A great teaching moment, learning the equipment is just the start since the soft skills can be developed over time. This brings back memories of my first class trying to learn what to do. Now it's such an easier flow.
What was scary, was that in that first 2 minutes Peter did Bec better than Bec does. Except he didn't have a glass of wine...or fingernails.
OMG, that was awesome. Good on both of you, thanks for doing this one.
Our pleasure, thanks for watching Jim
Love you both and have a lot of fun . .
Another awesome and fun filled video! Learning to talk to the model while trying to get the best shots is a real talent!
Thanks so much!
I really like the advice about having a goal in mind and keeping talking. I never knew why photographers did that.
Refreshing stuff, truly.
I love how heart fully free spirited y’all’s content is!
Thanks so much
once again a good way to help us to be better photographer ... merci de partager votre savoir ... ;-) et merci à Bec d'être ... Bec
Thank you :)
Good lessons, always love seeing the relationship, inspiration and psychology between the photographer and the model. Thx Peter and Becs!
Thanks so much Gary
I think this was a very important video for people new to having live models. I’m used to shooting landscapes and real estate, and you don’t have to keep those subjects “in the game”. Makes sense why I still struggle sometimes with a live model. Thanks guys!
Thanks Chris
Great impression of Bec !!
Thank you both for this brilliant - often painful - and, thus, eminently useful lesson. Wonderful work. Kudos!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Love that! That’s the essence of people photography! Thanks for showing it that clearly! 🙏
Glad you enjoyed it!
Reversed roles, fun, hilarious ! :-)
18 minutes of torture. I love it!
Thanks
You two are hilarious!
Love that background !
You are always a magnificent duo!!
Thanks so much
Brilliant.... shows how important communication is.
This is actually a very good video that models should get to see. It really highlights how how much there is to think about and take into consideration before hitting the shutter. Thank you.
Thanks so much, Bec said it taught her a lot as a model too
I always like Peter's shirts. This time I like Bec's shirt even more.
Young Peter. Looks like an actor.
@@robdlain9145 kind of looks like a brother of Data from Star Trek
@@andrewchisholm3665 Brent Spiner played both Data and Lor.
Love the t-shirt Bec is wearing! Fun teaching video!
What a great setup. Love it.
Thank you!
I always have some cheese in the fridge in my studio. I just hold a slice up and everything falls in place!🧀🤣
Cool shoot! Thanx a lot for a good mood.
SO funny :) And, a very good lession about what photography really is
Loved this vlog, Bec was such a pro! So much laughter…
Glad you enjoyed it!
@5:21 -- LOL!! Too good.
Nice one you guys , that’s cool Bec have Peter on her 😊
4:13 is the best one that Bec took. I'd probably fold my arms as well.
Really interesting to see, what happens of you change roles . Very helpful. Thanks Peter, thanks Bec.
Glad you enjoyed it
A good lesson. Portraits are so difficult, because you have to capture the details about people, which is essential. it is not just pressing the button, but feeling what is most sensitive in the other. congratulations to both.
Thanks heaps
@@PeterCoulsonPhotographer thanks Peter and Bec!!
VERY funny and educational too. Really enjoyed this video!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Good job Becca! This was really good by and eye opening. The ability to work with your model and the trust partnership is so we'll given here.
good exercises ,thx Peter and Bec !
Glad you like them!
Awesome...lot'sw of fun and INSIGHT!
Thanks heaps, so happy to hear
Very useful all I need is a Bec's !!
Thank you!
Love the model poses that Peter made LOL so funny. Bec is hilarious, one of your funniest videos.
Thanks so much!
@@PeterCoulsonPhotographer 1:45AM in Puerto Rico watching Bec say Cool, cool, cool hahaha. You have the best assistant in the world.
love this .. makes a great point about image creating... if you don't have an idea to start with . . . how are you suppose to come up with a image . . but if have an idea, keep talking and working the shot . . .. things will drop into place
Very good example of the three most important things for a photographer :
1. Communication.
2. Communication.
3. Communication.
100% :)
So interesting !!!
Thank you
Peter your shirt wasn’t short enough! 😂 very good guys.
Lol :)
I've been waiting for you to do this shoot for a long time!
Peter is like: I hate having my photo taken - 100% me :D i always tell everyone: theres a reason i am BEHIND the camera, not in front of it :D
Loving the haircut Peter
I enjoyed this 😂 ... I can relate to Bec when first taking photos and I can also relate to Peter when I'm the one being photographed.
Lol :D thanks heaps, glad you enjoyed it
I love this so much.
Thanks heaps
Really enjoyed this video. It reminds me of one of my earliest attempts working with an amateur model. It was so cringey.I had next to no idea what I was doing, and neither did she.
A great learning experience, painful, but great.
Glad you enjoyed it :)
This is so cute scene.. :) Awesome Peter!.. :)
Excellent video for those curious about human subject photography.
Glad you liked it!
This is the one I've been waiting for, Bec shooting Peter. Bec could learn photography. Just takes practice.
This is so informative, it's always so difficult to ask if you don't feel confident
At first I thought this was going to be a bit of Becs and Peter fun...but it was a good way to raise some very good training points for photographers who shoot people. Not just beginners, I've seen experienced photographers who need to see this video. Full marks to Becs for being such a sport, she really got thrown in at the deep end but made some very valuable learning points. More please.
Thanks heaps, glad you enjoyed it :)
You have kind face full of character, great subject for a serious portrait session. She did well for a newbie.
Excellent! Weather is photography or painting it's always better to switch places you learn a lot from it thank you both
Our pleasure!
Love it! Despite all the play, there's so much wisdom.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thanks guys, this was helpful and a lot of fun. ✌️❤️
Glad you enjoyed it!
That Burt Reynolds pose was on point 😅
Lol :D
This was great fun. Thanks guys!
Our pleasure!
Oh wow, great way to show what it takes to achieve great photos! You are spot on Peter Coulson, as a Photographer you need to know the image you want to create/capture and so giving directions or at least express the general concept is key. Thanks again for all the great content you make and share in your channel! P.S. Love the Black Tent and how it created a Negative fill bank.
Thanks so much Alexander, glad you enjoyed the video & the lighting set up :)
Damn Becks !!! One shot and you got it !
Great example of how difficult it is to work with someone who doesn't know what to do, either behind the camera or in front.
You guys crack me up. 😊😂
Great job. Very funny
I've watched couple of yours tutorial, and one thing that seems getting obvious is - always have a drink at hand. But on serious note - that line from Peter - I'm model who doesn't know what to do in front of photographer, who doesn't know what to do - that was my aproach until recently. At my very last photoshoot with somehow experienced model, I felt more comfortable to communicate with model the way Peter does.
Holy snappin' ar.....s, this was one of the best teaching videos you've shot, and applicable to many types of photography. Thank you Bec and Peter. Cheers.
Thank you so much
Very well done.
Thanks heaps
Gold
I love this video, very very interesting
Thank you!
this was brilliant!
Thanks
Bang on.... Peter's interpretation of Beck's whining or maybe 🍷wine 🍷'ing is so cool, cool, cool, cool, cool 😎😀.
Lol :D
Thank you so much for this video. I think both of you guys are pretty cool but I really enjoyed this model swap episode. Keep having a silly good time!
Thanks! Will do!
Great video guys. Even thought guys already have a great rapport, it was fascinating to see how awkward things can get when you're out of your comfort zone.
Thanks for watching!
👏👏👏Inspired. Watching a photographer at work like this is a great help to an amateur like me. Thank you for all of the videos; it's like a vicarious mentorship.
Our pleasure, glad you're enjoying the videos and they're helpful
very fun and a great duo - and who woulda thought Peter was so handsome in his younger days, even though he still looks good that younger man knows what he's about. I would like to see Peter work with Bec like in the movie 'Pygmalion'! It would be a great teaching method and your friend Bec would learn another skill that I'm sure is just sitting inside her! Thank you again for such an awesome video - take care and be safe out there....
omg...that was awesome! I was laughing my but off although...Bec DID get a couple decent shots of you Peter..lol . Good points and well taken. Hope you guys are staying healthy and doing well
Thanks so much Rich, glad it was entertaining and helpful :) hope you're well too
like it so much "High guys" 🌹
Thanks Hi
This might the best video I've seen on the non-technical side of things. The technical ones are good too, but how to talk with somebody, how to build a rapport, is a much harder skill to learn.
Thanks heaps Jeff
Made me laugh so much 🙂 It's is very true, I have photographers in the studio that almost say nothing to the model...
Well done Becks, I thought you were very brave in taking on this awesome task. I just wondered if you could take faster and more spontaneous photos if you had a handheld remote controller that you could fire off almost without the model, Peter, being aware. Thank you both for a very instructional and fun video. More please!
Yes, absolutely
Bec is the best!!
This was great,
Thanks Scott :)
you guys work well together, although I am not a photographer I enjoy your content and it gives me inspiration and ideas for my vlogs
Awesome, thank you!
Top tier stuff. Incredibly useful!
Goofy Bec is best Bec. You two are a brilliant team. :)
Thanks so much!
