Animals of Irish Coinage Proof Set

- Hey Coin Collectors, In this video I'll be looking at the three coin set released from the @centralbankireland , with the theme of the animals of Irish coinage.
This coin set feature a different animal on the reverse that was on the original coinage in Ireland in the 1920s and 1930s. The coins are in proof and are made from silver.
In the video I will give some history of the original Irish coinage designed by Percy Metcalfe and how that relates to these commemorative Coins designed by Emmet Mullins.

I have read that due to the divisions following the civil war, that a decision was taken not to politicise the coins although obverse was to be the Harp (first introduced by Henry V111), and the reverse was to represent the flora and fauna of Ireland. I suspect that they went with Percy Metcalf's designs as he did design work for the Royal mint? If you go to the Museum in Collins Barracks the original designs were carved in clay the size of dinner plates and are on display. in my opinion the designs of Publio Morbiducci of Italy were bar far the best and some 6d's were struck, (all in private collectors hands) It wasn't until 1966 that a historical political figure appeared on a coin, the Pearce ten schillings.
Personally (I cannot afford to collect everything) I would only collect proofs of coins that actually circulated. Thus I don't have the UN 50 years anniversary pound. Or the Rory 15 euro (and I was a great fan) although the coins you feature are aesthetically very pleasing.
Hey, yeah (Metcalf) they got designers from all over the world to submit and he wasn't a popular pick being english, so i don't think it would be out of connivence that they picked his designs. I agree that Morbiducci designs are a lot more interesting , very full of life, however Metcalfs designs look Irish and morbiducci ( although better) look more continental European and so i think right decision was made.
I'd love to own some Irish silver, but I am unable to find a website that sells it in the US. Always admired Ireland, so I think i'll visit sometime. Any idea of what Irish coin shops would want, silver eagles, buffalos, or constitutional 90 percent silver?
Not that I can think of. I think the official website will send to the states but you get import charges and tax
