Don’t try moving to the Miami/Fort Lauderdale area unless you are rich.
The alligator fears are unwarranted. Lived here pretty much all my life, never met anyone who had any dangerous encounters with one. We learned to live with the occasional hurricane. What kills us is the skyrocketing wind insurance.
Most folks growing up with gators learn to respect them. They are wild animals and they can turn on you without notice - and they are _much_ faster than humans. But, yeah, every year there is at least one story about an alligator taking someone's arm off - normally its a tourist.
And the Taxs keep going UP !$$$ in Florida
@@robertcarmosino6563 To be fair, Florida is the 6th least tax burdened state.
My closest friends lives in St Augustine and they have said their insurance has skyrocketed but even with that, it's still way less to live there than the west coast. I grew up in SoCal as did my friends that now live in Fla. Way less expensive to live in Fla than Calif.
@@DaleAl-lg4ul Hey, we were practically neighbors at one time. I lived at the corner of Crown Valley and the 5, right up on the hill. My old house is a little over 2 mill. Last time I checked. As someone who lived in Florida my whole life I'm growing to hate it from the constant influx of rich snow birds buying out houses raising the cost of living because now there is more of a demand for real estate.
I just posted a video about Florida. I hope for your support. I am a beginner on RUclips
That's a problem pretty much everywhere. I grew up in southern New England outside of NYC. A lot of the city's suburban towns were typical middle class but through the years prices kept rising as the wealthy spread out of the city for a quiet suburban life. Since COVID prices launched into fantasy land, and it's no better today, you still have to overbid to win a home here. So the personalities of these towns have changed over time and now they may have their nose in the air and attract the penny millionaires (IMHO). I guess nothing stays the same.
Fax like snowbirds we really hate you 😭
Yeah, people are moving in to Florida not out!
Same. I wish all these people would just go away. Go back to whatever place they came from and leave Florida for Floridians
Moved to Florida. Lasted 2 years before leaving. Too crowded. Too hot. Too many aggressive drivers. Too much hurricane damage. Couldn’t leave fast enough.
Jealous of you. I’ve been here for 2 years and I’m looking to safe up and leave by next brutal summer. I’ll stay and try to enjoy the winter that’s coming up

No state has more angry people than FL.
@@cur244yeah, it’s called New York and Massachusetts
don't forget about rent and cost of living
I would have included HOA's. Hard to live anywhere in Florida without being in an HOA and the state laws allow an HOA to get away with just about everything.
Lots of people not paying their HOA fees, and the HOA exercising their lawful right to collect is them "getting away with just about everything".
Youre wrong! In Miami there are some communities that have up to 3 different associations. Also, moat of them steal most of the money that tenants pay. Then, they do crazy assessments asking fir more money. You see the tenants taking them to court all the time.
This X1000
It’s not the HOA, it’s the community development bond fees for 24 years…
What is HOA? Sorry I am a Filipina and not familiar with it.
Post covid, the cost of living in Florida has risen really fast. In fact, the average salary has not risen all that much. Although, there are good paying jobs a good portion of jobs do not pay all that well. It’s even worse the further south you go past the I4 corridor. Real estate prices are just too expensive. At this rate you will probably need an salary of over 100k just to even qualify to purchase an average size home (3 bed 2 bath 1500sq ft).
Amen to that 😑
Plus the huge increase in homeowners insurance on top of that! Even renting is ridiculous!!
@@pjlee2053 Your not wrong about that. Insurance after Hurricane Idalia in 2022 the insurance rate on everything jumped up a lot. And it’s insane that rent prices are nearly as much or more then a mortgage.

Florida is no longer a Middle Class friendly State . It has become extremely expensive while most jobs revolve around Tourism and pay very little . And so much of the State suffers from an endless amount of Construction everywhere . And don't get me started on the terrible Traffic and never ending Roadwork .
It's intentionally done by crooked DeSantis, to push out long term citizens, and just bring in wealthy people that can afford high taxes and prices, , so politicians can live a good life. Shame

That is the price of having a population that is growing. People make fun of or criticize California. A lot of the issues is just from a rapid and big population growth. People who have been living in California for many years will always say how different it used to be and it is different. Florida back in 2000 had a population of 16 million and today it's over 22 million. No doubt Florida is experiencing many changes.
Natives in the sunshine states are also tired of all the elite people making six figures coming into our state and inflating costs - making a never ending rat race to live.

Absolutely. They are doing it to states all over the country. And a lot of them are 2nd and 3rd homes.

I’ve lived in Florida for 50 years. I can’t wait to get out of here as soon as I retire. Hot as hell, housing as expensive as hell, insurance high as hell, food high as hell, lived through some hurricanes that were terrifying and damaging as hell. The greatest thing about Florida is the wildlife, including gators, and I’ve seen my share of them. And the fishing and boating, especially on Lake Okeechobee. Oh yea, drivers are also crazy as hell. Everything is crazy as hell here. That’s why my daughter left Florida and moved to Alaska when she became an adult. I plan on getting the hell out the dodge as soon as I retire!

As someone who lived in Florida for 15 years and moved to South Carolina this year, traffic and hurricanes are top on my list. Hurricanes are there but not like you think. Is it cheaper ther in South Carolina? More affordable?

@@JoshBozarthPhotography Wow, sounds amazing. And I was so naive about Florida. Seems like Florida dream is over. I heard that South Carolina is really good
Lmao I know how you feel 😂 the family members calling every 3 hours telling you to evacuate. They have no idea what they’re talking about, I know they mean well but god it’s annoying lol and it gives me anxiety when I really don’t need more anxiety than I already have. I technically live in an evacuation zone but I’m nowhere near the water and my house is up on a hill (a Florida “hill”) so we are fine. The hurricane would have to be quite literally Armageddon level to flood where my house is located.

They paved paradise and put up a parking lot.
My uncle got transferred to Pompano Beach in 1957. Once he retired, he came back to Michigan for a few months every year. He said the heat and humidity were unbearable down rhere.
People from Wisconsin say the same thing.
They are.
I grew up in Michigan. Summer could be pretty humid there, so I thought I could handle Florida's humidity. Well, when I am able, I'll turn into a snowbird, because our summers here in north Florida make Michigan seem like Arizona to me😂 I do love our "almost summers," though.
That is why God gave us air-conditioning. Seriously, Florida is like the northern tier states just in reverse. In the north, lots of people minimize outdoor activity during the coldest months and spend most of their time in heated buildings. In Florida, lots of people minimize outdoor activity during the hottest months and spend most of their time in air-conditioned buildings. No biggie.

Haven't even watched 2 mins and as a Florida resident I can tell you why....THE DAMN HEAT!!!! Been here 34 years and it's in a category all it's own!! Wish I would have known just HOW hot it is here before I moved!!
I moved here in April, and by August I was subconsciously over it. It took until November until I mentally broke and realized I need to get out for my own mental health. I am alone here so there is that, but Florida is a different country compared to the Midwest. I love the heat, seriously don’t mind it at all and I hate the cold. But the trash, homeless, the drivers and traffic, it’s just an awful place if you’re used to some level of “nice”. It’s just a scary place, I stay close to home because I’m uncomfortable out there. Anyway, if you’re thinking about FL heed my warning. I was wide eyed and excited, now I have better data. ✌️
Yes, a lot of people read the reasons to visit florida as those to live in fl.
I am from Florida, born & raised and as soon as covid hit, guess where I went? To Kansas City, Missouri and my life is here now and it is amazing. There's also extremely low wages in Florida too. Not too much going on there aside from poverty and drugs. The midwest is amazing!
Florida is the type of place that everyone likes visiting but not everyone likes the idea of living there
The extreme humidity and heat makes it seem like you’re breathing underwater and the mosquitoes are not something to mess with
I love to visit, but I never though of living there for the humidity and traffic
Plus crime, appalachian redneck ignorance, spring breaker stupidity, pointless aggression, and dumb people with guns.
We were in Fort Lauderdale for two weeks in July, during the record heat wave. It wasn't that bad. It did not stop us from any of our normal activities, including walking four miles every day.

The rents have tripled since the pandemic for apartments. And more people keep moving in to pay those rents. I left my $600 month apartment in 2020, one of the cheapest in the county. Today it rents for $1850. South Florida apartments quickly went from $1k to now 2500-3000. There is a shortage for anything involving physical labor, the low paying jobs. But the pay offered is not rising. Can you guess why there is a labor shortage?
all comes back to DeSantis and his blundering regime.
DeSantASS has declared war on migrant workers and other demographics. Soon Florida's agriculture business will suffer.
Commifornians don't care, they'll pay high rent. They're used to it
The pay isn't increasing because alot but not all the construction labor is unskilled.
I live in Florida and have worked in the insurance industry for 6 years, can confirm all of these points.
Especially property insurannce. Youll get a letter from your provider saying theyre canceling your policy because theyre leaving the state or just going out of business altogether. Ive owned my home for 5 years and have had to change property carriers 3 times.
my car insurance in tennessee was $1200 a year and in fl it tripled to $3600 and thats just for liability!
I just left Florida last week with my wife and 2 kids. We lived in the Tampa area and the influx of new people since the pandemic as ruined it for us. Too many people, housing prices shooting up like crazy, and the 6 months of brutal heat was just too much for us
We live in Carmel, Indiana now and we love it!.
Great town. Carmel is great
Lol enjoy the brutal winters . Tornados and meth heads
Agreed! We moved out of Tampa five years ago a couple of hours North of you in Indiana! Best decision ever. We saw the mess coming seven years ago before Covid even hit! Lived there 20 years. It was beautiful and laid back, back then.
glad you got out, TX is having many of the same issues as Florida
I hear ya. Good move. Too many people ruin everything. It's not worth it. You can always visit.
I lived in Florida from 1998-2002. It wasn't for me. The summer heat and humidity starts in April and lasts into November. The Emerald Coast beaches are beautiful but can get very crowded, and many of the people want to party. When the weather cools down (50s and 60s), the snowbirds show up and the population of the whole state soars. Lastly, I didn't like how the fall and winter holidays don't feel like holidays at all.
Literally me with this. It’s making me depressed having no season except summer, and summer lite in the winter
Exactly right on all your points. People underestimate the heat and humidity. It is downright almost unbearable.
I’m retiring soon and have lived in Florida (Tampa area) since the 1970’s and can’t WAIT to relocate out of this crowded conservative sweltering hellhole!

I considered FL back in 2010. My wife vetoed it because of the heat. I vetoed it due to the crazy high insurance prices and property taxes. Now the weather is even worse and the insurance and property taxes are literally DOUBLE or MORE the already crazy high rates.

@@sureok1196 Yep, and the humidity just seems like a constant weight that you have to carry through most of the year.

You forgot about wages. Most Florida business owners don't pay a living wage. The Public Education system is terribly underfunded and they are having a difficult time finding Teachers. Crime is getting worse.
DeSantis and his fascist buddies destroyed public education.
Completely the truth.
Greetings Everyone!
I moved to Florida back in 2016 for work and have not been able to get out yet, but I have wanted to for some time. The issues really depend on what you can tolerate and your lifestyle. I am not a homeowner, so I cannot personally speak to the insurance issues. I live in a rural area in north central Florida, and I am amazed at how home prices have doubled in the past 3 years.
Being from Illinois, the weather comes to mind immediately as a reason to leave Florida. Yes it can be quite mild from late November to mid-April, but from May-October it is just awful if you do not like hot and humid weather. If you live up North, pick the hottest most humid day in July/August and imagine living that every day for at least half the year. That is summer...and spring...and half the fall in Florida. As someone that has never liked warm weather, it is a nightmare. I find it much more oppressive than Northern Illinois winters.
The population increase is definitely noticeable. I initially lived in the Tampa area, and at that time there was a bit of a gap between Orlando and Tampa on I-4 punctuated by the medium sized town of Lakeland. Today I-4 has very little undeveloped area between Tampa and Orlando. I imagine in 5-10 years the two metro areas will be indistinguishable. This is also happening with Orlando and The Villages/Ocala area. If you are a city person, it probably would not bother you, but if you are looking for rural living, Florida is definitely not the place for you. The urban sprawl is quickly overtaking the state with the only the northern part of Florida and a small area just south of Orlando being somewhat rural. People coming from New Jersey/New York/Boston likely would not mind, but if you are not a city person it is not for you. The interstates are jam packed with unsafe drivers. At this point I refuse to drive on them.
The people aspect depends greatly on where you live. Tampa and Miami are little New England/New York, so you get a lot of that stereotypical aggressive and rude attitude those areas are known for. The traffic in all Florida cities is awful. Northern Florida is more like the bordering Southern states, so you get much more that type of person. Beach areas are always crime ridden, and I have found this to be true of almost anywhere so I cannot claim that is unique to Florida. Large cities are large cities and they all have crime, they are all pretty much the same with different shaped buildings whether in Florida or elsewhere. As someone who has lived in a few cities, I cannot say Florida cities are dramatically worse. Rural Florida has its own issues. Meth is a big problem in many rural areas, so you have to be careful about where you buy property.
All the animals discussed are here, but they typically do not bother you. I think those things would only be scary to city/suburban people. If you are from a rural area you know that wild animals roaming to and fro is part of life. Florida is nothing unique there.
Cost of living does not seem super high or low to me, especially in the smaller towns. If you are in a big city, it is going to be expensive whether that is in Florida or elsewhere. The tourism situation probably drives those costs up a bit since tourists are often forced to pay whatever rate is being charged.
Politics is politics. As someone who does not follow politics, I can tell you it has not effected my day to day life at all in Florida outside of some lunatic occasionally prattling on about Trump or Biden or whomever the political celebrity of the day is. If a big part of your identity, then Florida is a war torn state that is divided along party lines. A powder keg ready to blow at any minute. However, those same people would feel that way about any state. If you do not care about politics and realize it is just rich people doing what they want while pretending the rest of us have input, it will have no effect on your life.
Unless you really love the beach or some sort of fishing unique to the state, I do not see the appeal of living in Florida. The state and national parks are better almost everywhere else. Most of Florida is flat swampland with some springs peppered throughout. It is not very exciting, and most of the good ones are overrun with people constantly. I would say nice to visit, but I can tell you that the day I move out of here is the last day I will ever willingly set foot in Florida.
Very nicely said! And TRUE ...
Spot on, ive lived in rural Ocala since 03 and it's quickly becoming ft lauderdale

I’ve been here since 2019 and I’m the same boat and agree with most of all this. Been in tampa area and the traffic is terrible. When I go back to Wisconsin it feels like an apocalypse when I see how few drivers there are on the roads
Thanks for your insubstantial comment that adds no value to the conversation.@@Alpha-ro8sc
I agree with all that you have said. Cost of living here is awful. People making minimum wage can't make it here alone.
Driving on Interstate 4 is like the seventh level of hell.
Driving on any road in Dade county is the eighth level.
@@donna8243Yeah but I think i-4 is worse because it's the only toll-free road in the whole area every other road is some stupid toll I learned out the hard way the first two weeks I was visiting Orlando and there's no way to get away from it either You're always paying a toll

I'm bailing out of Florida for Maine (probably Ellsworth) as soon as possible.

@@namarie325 It's a beautiful place, the people are very kind, friendly, and nice, there is no traffic whatsoever, crime is practically nonexistent, the cost of living is reasonable, and there is room to breathe as the population of the entire state is lower than the county I live in.

@@DriveInFreak I’ve been to Maine and liked it. Yeah lots of people only say they like FL weather because they live their lives going from air conditioned place to air conditioned place. My target is probably the Midwest for housing/cost of living.
@@namarie325 There are parts of the Midwest that are quite nice, but I do not want to be that far from the ocean. The heat down here didn't used to bother me, and it's still not that big of a deal to me, but as I've gotten older it's not quite as easy to deal with.

Minions are nothing more than slaves that think they are free, you must feel right at home among them.
The cost of living is the absolute reason people wanna leave Florida. No one in our government fighting for the people living here. It's a state becoming dedicated to the rich millionaires or boomers on their way to retirement. No opportunities for younger people and even if you have a good job workers are being pocket drained for all their worth because everything is super expensive. Even if you worked two jobs you still have no time off or money to go do anything fun, and if you only work one job then you definitely can't afford to do anything without ending up in crippling financial dept. All the tourist attractions in places like Orlando and Tampa are extremely overcrowded and overpriced. Restaurants and shopping is expensive. Car insurance is unbelievably overpriced. Electricity and phone bills are expensive. Gas prices don't help. Every job wants to pay you the bare minimum with no overtime hours and when business is slow they just cut your hours to the point where you make virtually nothing anyway. So what used to be an affordable state, realtors and investors have pushed so many poor and struggling people out to the streets by raising prices just to look attractive to out of state buyers. So people end out on the streets and resort to drugs or illegal activities because their cities offer them no opportunities or even a place to sleep at, so when they do settle somewhere they're harassed and arrested by the police or assaulted by people on the streets. Everyone who has a house is just struggling now to make their ends meet at this point. And our politicians are doing nothing about these issues because all they wanna focus on is the things that don't matter like Disney or their own war on woke agenda or whatever ridiculous thing that no one should even care about just to distract you from what's really going on. Also they built a lot of these pre planned Florida cities that don't even have historical districts, jobs, opportunities, or anything fun to do. They built all these places like Lehigh Acres, Deltona, Palm Bay, and Spring Hill which don't even have particularly interesting things going for them, just more housing but nothing commercial or attractive driven about them. my car insurance in tennessee was $1200 a year and in fl it tripled to $3600 and thats just for liability!
I left Pittsburgh, PA 30 years ago and settled near Fort Lauderdale. Loved it at first. But now I can't wait to retire and get out of this hell hole. Traffic with aggressive and rude drivers, and you never know when they'll pull a gun out. Cost of homes and apartments went through the roof. My home insurance has doubled in just 3 years (CA's home insurance is cheaper even with earthquake coverage). The number of months with pleasant weather has shrunken from about 5 to now about 3 if we're lucky and with summer heat indexes in in the mid 110°. Jobs don't pay very well unless you're upper management. And I personally know many people who have left for the same reasons. The first 5 or 6 stories on the local news are usually about shootings or violent road rage incidents. There are a few very nice and kind people here, but the bad people are beginning to outnumber them. Can't wait to say Adios Florida!

Like a wiseman once told me “it’s one thing to visit FL but it’s another to live”. I believe this is the motto for FL. I lived there off and on; it has its pros and cons like all states , but FL would be considered rather extreme to live in. Other states can be extreme as well depending who asking like TX, CA or rather they present challenges that people from more middle ground states wouldn’t really want to deal with. Those attributes can be politics, climate, traffic, schools, economic opportunities etc. I’m a VA native; besides FL GA is the only other state I’ve lived in before. I’m currently in VA but GA I wouldn’t mind. I’ll say this FL has interesting headlines and people making it standout but one thing is for sure driving especially in South FL and in around Orlando will keep you alert.

I-4 and 528 around the attractions is a real treat.
Many states, like Florida, is a state that doesn't seem to be pushing mass transit. Rail lines would do great there, shuttle people and help alleviate traffic while creating permanent jobs
It might add the taxes so be careful with that
One high speed rail would have been nice 30 years ago, but in this age, it's kind of a moot point.
They recently created a new rail line to Orlando mainly from Miami.
They just opened a new rail line between Orlando and Miami. The state is paying for commuter rail in central FL. Don’t comment on things you have no knowledge of.

Blizzards are unlikely to destroy your home or make your area uninsurable.
Agreed, and people aren't really smart in terms of where they build. There's a reason in many Caribbean countries there aren't "beachfront house," because people realize its a stupid idea to build low lying areas by the ocean.
People also forget the storm surge.
So even if the wind didn't destroy the house. A flood of water will turn the house into a bio hazard and need everything replaced.

As someone who moved to Florida for a year and then moved out, I really got this list although I feel like the list was more geared towards ppl from up north moving down. Anyhow, I moved to Tampa from Louisiana which has many similar problems such as hurricanes and gators and the weather, however the main reason i moved out was the ppl of Florida. I will say that for the most part, the long time FL residents were cool, but most of the ppl that I met that moved from up north were absolute aholes. Also costs was a reason for moving back although I could've afforded to rent in FL where as now im able to own property now that im back. Anyways, this is a solid list and a good video especially for those moving from a different climate.

People are probably tired of many variations of Florida Man
I have new neighbors that recently moved from Florida that said it was way to expensive and couldn't afford even a small house for their growing family.
We moved from Wisconsin to the Tampa Bay area about 5 years ago. It was supposed to be just for a couple years, and then we would travel full time.
Reasons we wanted to move here:
1. No state income tax
2. Hated Wisconsin winters.
3. My aging parents live here.
4. My company has an office here, letting me keep working for those two years.
5. Cost of living was slightly higher, but we downsized to make it affordable.
6. Florida was a purple state, and this was known as a "blue" area.
Reasons we're leaving next spring:
1. I can't take another hot summer here.
2. It's now a LOT more expensive to live here. Rent is up about 50% in those 5 years. Car insurance was kinda high. It's now triple the price of 5 years ago (same car), renter's insurance is 4x higher than 5 years ago.
3. Way too many people, and they're everywhere. Too much traffic, too crowded everywhere you go.
4. The people moving here tend to self-select heavy on the extreme right wing of the political spectrum. They haven't improved a toxic political climate.
5. Things to do are skewed heavily towards the type of things that appeal to tourists, and are priced to get them to part with a maximum amount of cash. Restaurants are mostly chain and expensive. I'm bored silly here, hate staying inside six months of the year with not much interesting to do.
Are you going back to Wisconsin? I hear it’s also on the decline other than Madison

Well duh, you moved to a big city in a major tourist area. What did you expect? I'm in a small town, same coast and the only thing I have a problem with is your #1. I'm an Independent politically and have no problem where I live.
All good reasons to leave. I never really noticed the increase in people as the orlando area has always been overcrowded with absolutely terrible management of that.
I found the food awful. Most of the time it’s teens slapping crap together and charging huge tourist prices they don’t care. So glad we moved to NC, really great restaurants in Charlotte that are always great, cheaper housing, low insurance, great hair salons. Don’t miss Florida at all.

A factor not mentioned, at least for people who moved to Florida from the Midwest and Great Lakes states, may be that people just miss the people they left behind. I know several Ohioans that retired there, and later moved back "home". This may be true in many states, but in retirement magnets like Florida, it's probably more common. Returnees I know typically say Ohioans are just friendlier. I don't know if they are, or if new arrivals just don't have as much opportunity to meet the kinds of people they're comfortable with.

The problem became when people’s decision to move to Florida or wherever; was based a lot on emotions and panic. Thus driving the costs of everything through the rough. Even with Florida homestead exemption the property taxes are still high. People driving with their eyes close has made monthly car insurance as much as some car payments. The constant aggressive drivers on the road speeding to nowhere is out of control. Just this morning there was a shooting in Ybor. Two people killed and numerous injuries. The Tampa Bay Area is getting worse. And it’s sad. It’s not the small town feel it used to have.

@sitdowndogbreath The Colorado River shortage only affects rural agricultural areas, which consume about 80 percent of the water in the West.
Cities use barely four percent of the available water in any Western State, and the tax revenues available to municipal water suppliers means most have secured supplies for at least a century.
