When I moved to Florida in 2000 it was a paradise. Homes were affordable, traffic was light, cost of living was low and the weather included some really nice winters. Also the political climate was quiet. All these things are gone.

I suppose it also depends on where you live or were raised. Native floridian Tampanian here. Don't come....1) please don't move here!!! 2) we are over populated 3) No exaggeration, all the trees are being cut down to build houses causing air pollution and water pollution I'll explain below 4) we used to grow oranges and now all we grow is cement, concrete, car washes to wash all these emission producing cars, 5) Sink holes up the ying yang, 6) in 2023 taxes are sky high!!!!! Mucho dinero. My home taxes went from 1,900 to just under 6k raising my mortgage by $700 a month on a fix 2.5% interest rate 7) sky high home insurance 8) sky high car insurance 9) bumper to bumper traffic jams in Hillsborough County, Miami, orlando, and all other metro counties from 6am to 8pm. No longer is traffic heavy from 7am to 9am and 4pm to 6pm. Insead traffic is jammed ALL DAY LONG. 10) hurricane Irma, Ian tore us a new @** hole literally, 11) because so many people are moving here the prices of groceries and gas ( cost of living) is sky high because demand is high. We cant blame inflation for this one. High demand equals high costs.
When we cut down all the trees to build concrete the sky becomes pollured because there are not enough trees to filter the air and produce oxygen. Also when those trees are cut down the soils becomere demineralized and cause water wash off into the waterways that then cause red tied, blue green algae, flesh eating bacteria etc. This is what's happening to Florida.
P.s its not relaxing here. So stay where you are. We are over crowded.

I was a Realtor in Connecticut. I now live in Tampa and the Rental prices tripled since I have been here since 1994. I am on straight Social Security now and the rise in the cost of rents are driving the retirees out of their rents. There are a lot of elderly living on the streets and that is what is really happening. So talk about some of that. I worked for Century 21 in Farmington CT. I hear the rentals are twice as much there. The new 1 Bed 1 bath rents in Tampa and Riverview since they are building new there and are starting at $2,500 per month. That is over my SSI income base and that is crazy.

As a multiple property investor in Florida, maybe the presenter should mention the cost of property insurance. The deep hidden fact is insurance companies have left the state in droves after losing money from storm damage. Ask an agent there about rates that have tripled in one year. Hurricanes have caused claims to bankrupt some carriers. How much? Many homeowners are paying more in insurance than taxes. $12,000 a year.

Davis Island is WAY TOO LOW above sea level. You will need to budget a huge amount of money for flood and home owners' insurance. I live in this area since 1959. If we ever have a major hurricane hit here, my guess is that at least a third of the housing will be immediately destroyed, as far too much of this area is built on ground that is entirely too low above sea level. Also, the traffic here has become ridiculously congested. That said, Pinellas County is an extremely well run county, with little to no corruption that I am aware of.
