    On our 2013 G37 I suspect previous owner(s) put in the wrong power steering fluid and that is the noise I hear when driving. Nissan/Infiniti/Toyota uses Dexron ATF, NOT US style power steering fluid, which is what I believe is in the G now. Getting a pump from harbor freight today and getting started on this project...

    Is not necessarily. The bearing can also be so bad that it makes no difference when you turn left or right. It's the same all the time! I've had quite a few such problems. It also depends on the bearing how much it is worn

      I've got a little issue with some noise at the moment. Initially thought maybe worn tyres, but I'm inclined to think it may be a wheel bearing or two. Either way it sounds like I'm being accompanied by a Cessna in the distance when I get up to about 40mph.

    • @nathanfranks1476
      @nathanfranks1476 6 месяцев назад

      @willenium2k4 Yes! That sounds eerily similar to how my wheel bearing issue presented- although I described it as a helicopter-sounding noise- maybe because I have never heard a cessna before

      @@nathanfranks1476 So I've literally just rolled my trolley jack back into my garage. Jacked the car up and spun all four wheels after work this evening. Pretty sure the rears are ok. Fronts feel smooth when turning by hand, but doing the 'steering sweep' while driving home from work this evening, it seems the issue is likely pointing to the offside one. When spinning it quickly I think I can hear a tiny bit of clunking, but it's hard to tell with the ambient noise and the wind blowing in my ear. I'll order a bearing anyway and see how I get on.

    My truck's rear driver side wheel squeaks "as it turns" meaning the faster I drive the intervals are shorter, and the slower I drive the intervals are longer, etc. At higher speeds the noise goes away until I curve or turn right, when weight is applied to said side and tire. Can anyone help diagnose? My first thought was drive shaft, then brakes and now I have people telling me it's the wheel bearings. Not the most knowledgeable in vehicle mechanics so I could use a hand if anyone minds.

    I jack the vehicle up and spin the rims/tires. If a wheel hub/bearing is bad, you can hear the grinding when you spin the rims/tires. Plus moving from side to side will cause the pitch change for sure while driving. I'm hoping the noise we are hearing on our 2012 G37 is the tires, not the trans as I'm 90% sure it's not the wheel bearings. The passenger side is super quiet no noise at all when I spin things, the drivers side has a tine bit of scraping sound but just barely and I attribute that to the brakes barely touching. Older tires from 2015 & 2018 on the car now, replacing the 2015 ones Tuesday and seeing how that affects the noise we are hearing.

    I bought a car and after taking it home I thought it had a wheel bearing issue. Spent hours trying to diagnose the issue and pinned it down to it coming from the front right wheel. Couldn't find play in the wheel, but having a wheel bearing go bad on my last car I know that play doesn't mean the bearing is fine. I went ahead and checked tire pressure on all four wheels and sure enough, 3 wheels had 33-35psi while the front right had 48psi in it. Checked all 4 tires tread and 3/4 were just fine, but sure enough the front right wheel had very little tread left in the center while having normal tread on the outside. Turns out the last owner was just a moron who didn't understand the importance of filling up the tires to spec, probably just saw the low pressure light come on and filled it up for like a minute at a gas station and never questioned anything.
    Sounds exactly how you described as well. It's fine I guess, the tires on this car look like your generic Walmart garbage.

  • @Mr._Flunky
    @Mr._Flunky 5 месяцев назад +16

    I am an auto tech, and I can tell you that for the majority of wheel bearing diagnosis this method works well.
    There are a few odd ones that come in usually imports Honda and Toyota specifically, that the bearing will have zero play and by that have no change in sound loaded or unloaded.
    And the way to tell if it is bad is the old Airplane propeller sound.
    Many years ago my wife's Acura was starting to make this prop plane sound from the front of the car, and I checked the wheels clearance to brake calipers (they were very close but not touching ), I checked the bearings for wear or play - none found, I checked CV Axle nuts preload and that was in spec.
    I ended up replacing the knuckle assemblies which had the bearing pressed into it, and the noise was gone instantly.
    I took the old ones to a friend and told him about the sound, and he pressed them out and cut the bearings apart and showed me the wear spots in the bearings.
    Basically the case hardening starts coming off the rolling parts making little flat spots. And the Axle nut preload keeps the bearing from showing any play, yet still allowing it to make a fairly loud noise.
    I asked him why would the case hardening even comes off in the first place, and he said it's little stress cracks that form in the metal when the grease dries out in the sealed bearing, and the rolling parts get too hot and the hard surface cracks because it's also brittle and cannot withstand wide temperature changes..
    My 02¢

    My car is experiencing a similar sound to this whereas I accelerate the roaring / humming sound increases in volume and peaks around roughly 80km/hr. The noise then tapers off as I accelerate past 80km/hr. I took it to a local mechanic and he dismissed both wheel bearing issues as well as tire issues. He believes it’s something with my transmission but I’m yet to find any articles, forums or videos showcasing the same sound I’m experiencing involving the transmission. Anyone know of a transmission issue that sounds similar to a failing wheel bearing or uneven tires? Thanks!

      Sounds like a torque converter shudder. Is the sound like a deep pulsating sound that you can feel through the pedals? Does the sound go away if you give it some gas while it’s happening? Does it happen more often when accelerating slowly or holding speed uphill? If so that’s likely a torque con

    After 2 months of research and looking around your "woo woo wooo" on deceleration gave me my answer. I had a feeling it was the tire, but when i changed the one i thought it was it stayed the same if not got worse slightly. It sounds like it comes directly from my front driver side tire. I did find a flat spot on my passenger rear tire but all the noise comes from the front. Weird

      Look at your thread wear on the corner of the tires. Alignment issue if is. If woo woo woo still stays when breaking to decelerate then not bearing issue.

    ill give this a try, my driver left side is making this loud rumbling noise/heavy tread noise and I have no idea what it is, I noticed when the issue first started it was more of a whistling noise than after a bit changed to a squeak and now a rumble, my car does veer to the left a bit and when I jacked the car up I noticed the wheel doesn't spin freely but there isn't any play. no idea what it is

      Sounds like you may have a brake caliper binding, check for rotor discoloration and excessive brake dust on that corner

    Can someone inform me what is the most probable cause of some mild grinding sound which I also feel on the steering wheel. It feels that it is coming from driver front side. Is this a wheel bearing or knukcle? Or could it be something with suspension? It is 2017 Toyota Corolla 4 door sedan.

    Thanks so much. I'm rolling with a tire issue based on your fantastic diagnostic skills. What's interesting or telling is my tires were just rotated. I noticed the sound immediately from the front tire(s) and this was also after the mechanic said my lug nut had been crossthreaded, and my hub might be damaged. I'm calling BS on that based on the sound, and what you described. Plus, how do I know that he didn't do the thread damage himself? I've been to the shop before, purchasing a pair of tires. He was also quick to point out that my rear brakes were shot. I appreciate the diagnosis, but I wonder if he was really working an upsell back then as well. Thanks again my friend. I'll see if the shop follows up my call after driving home with the new noise.

    Hi. My mk6 golf has a really loud noise and vibrates when driving on cracked roads. Do you think it is because of the sport suspension or is it another problem?

    • @maricalamari832

      idk if you’ve already fixed the problem but my best guess is that it can be your suspension if it’s only occurring on cracked roads

    Daughters 2014 C-Max Energi had tire noise that changed when the original 9 year old tires were rotated, front to back, with the cheaper 5 year old tires previous owner had replaced them with. The original Michelins had not, quite, gotten to the tread wear indicators but, because of age, and the Hankook were in the wear indicators all 4 were replaced with 70,000 mile Michelins. Because of radio volume, and the noise started gradually, she didn't realize how loud it had gotten. Good quality street tires tend to be quieter than cheap ones. Inflation and rotation.

    Changed my summer tires they are like 40 % .. The moment I changed and left from the mechanic I have some sound as if the vehicle is going on the rough road this usually happens at higher speeds .. before when I entered the mechanic it was super smooth with winter tires as the tires were also in good condition.. it’s obvious that it’s the summer tyres fault right ?? Not the wheel bearing

    I just got brand new 4 BFGoodrich tires and when driving on the highway and the speed goes above 80km/h I start hearing this cyclic Wooo Wooo Wooo noise and it's getting worse with increasing the speed. I guess according to the description and what many people are saying in the comment section it's because of the tires, but they're brand new ....... just bought them, shall I think of changing them again?
