    Sold my xmax 250 earlier in year 2007 model. Went to spain on it twice. Despite owning other “proper” bikes xmax was my go to transport. Even 250cc cruise all day at 70mph and super comfy and weather protected. Really regret selling it. Very capable machines. Did 28000 miles and not single issue other than maintenance which is very easy if take seat out. Great vlog as always

    Love your series on the ADV.
    I was recently at the Bangkok Motor Show to consider different scooters, as I have a Forza 350 and fancy a change to the ADV 350. I was quite interested in the Yamaha T Max 560 until I heard the price. For some unexplainable reason it's twice the price per cc of that for a Forza / ADV, so considered it totally unreasonable and poor value by comparison.
    I hired an ADV 350 to test drive and was hugely impressed by its superior handling over the Forza. The Forza is still a great bike, and I recently finished a 7,000km tour of Thailand in comfort and with confidence on mine, even in remote jungle areas, I never doubted it's reliability, but you've convinced me the ADV would be preferable for the next long trip I hope to make around Laos and maybe Vietnam.
    Thanks for your reviews and guidance.

    Thanks for the reviews on the ADV, comprehensive and useful. One of these is very tempting: I traded an X-MAx 300 for an NC750 18 months ago to get back onto a "proper" motorcycle, and the NC has always been sold as a top commuter and the ultimate in practical motorcycling and while I generally like it, it can;t hold a candle to the Xmax as commuter which was just so easy to live with. I bought the NC thinking I'd be doing more long distance trips but again, these mid size scoots are more than capable of doing 200 mile days, with luggage. It's a shame there is a bit of bias in this country against the bigger scooters, i suspect if more people tried them, many more people would ride one. A couple of questions from me: the XMax was generally very good apart from its rear shock which was really poor on bad roads (I used to get bumped out of the seat regularly....) and the front did feel a bit vague in the wet. What's the ADV like in the wet and on roads with poor surface?

    • @exeterrider
      @exeterrider  2 года назад +1

      Good question and the only answer I can think of is , I think a lot of it is cycological. Motorbikes you can really chuck your weight over the front, but you can do this with scooters so yes I know what you mean there, I rode the ADV in all wheather and I had no slip on the rear or the front ...How much I could have pushed it , I don't know but it worked well for me considering its a scooter : )So much easier to jump on and off compared to the NC.

    • @Watson2108
      @Watson2108 Год назад +1

      Do you still have the City Grip first gen tires on there? If yes then that´s definitely the reason for the bad wet road feel. I recently had to change my rear tire and got the City Grip 2 but left the front unchanged.
      The rear basically never slips now, even in the wet. Now the front is the limiting part and begins to slide first. Sometimes feels pretty sketchy but you always feel it slipping before you actually do.
      When I change the front too I bet it will be awesome in all conditions.
      The City Grip 2´s are excellent tires, the 1´s are quite the opposite

      I should do a video on think very subject....I think that many people are stuck thinking that a scooter even a 300cc scoot for example , are like the old vespas from the 70s with no power. The scoots these days are so much more than that. I think the biggest issue with them really is the way you put your legs forward which seems a bit odd rather than the macho pegs and legs down. Many scooter snobs out there which is a shame really because they are missing out I think in some cases.

    I'm the third with the same dilemma (same as one of my compatriots). Adv or xmax in 2023? I like the looks of the my23 xmax and they're both doble "triple clamp" front suspension scooters, but with the inverted showa suspension, more power and much more updated style (although a little misleading SUV kind of thing) my doubts persist. I still prefer the looks of the matt black non teckmax xmax300 a lot. Given the facts i suppose the thing is that the ADV is a much better proposition in regard to cost benefit ratio. Still haven't decided. Regards from Portugal.😂

      Another niggle is when it's running you can't open the seat it seems,and it doesn't lose connection at one point.
      It had to go back to the dealer for a battery problem, ex demo been sat for a while, but think it's sorted for now.
      Not over impressed with the MPG, but is nearly new ( just 72 miles), hopefully it will improve once loosened up.
      Something else could be better is the front headlight.
      But on the whole happy with it, my fist A2 licence bike at 60 yrs old

    Another great review 👍I’ve looked at most of the maxi scooters and I think I’ve narrowed it down to the forza 350 or the adv 350 , it’s mainly for work a few ride outs with my mates ( who all own big motorbikes) and possibly a bit of Sunday fun , what are your thoughts forza or adv 🤔

      Hi Darren, I have ridden both and although you kinda sit on top of the adv where as you sit in the Forza..... Its still go adv myself, it's a tad more comfortable and feels bigger and more of a capable tourer.

    I think the Adv 350 looks the part but I really don't think it's going to be that much more capable than the xmax or forza on the occasional bit off of off-roading (Gravel) all the them are great for commuting & shopping etc, thats all there really for......

    • @exeterrider

      Agreed, I don't really think it's marketed for off roading but the tyres are more suited to rougher muddier roads.

    That windshield looks far too small: even in the highest position its skinniness allows a buffeting aitflow around the sides. I used to own Honda Foresight (250) and Silverwing (600) "maxi-scooters" and neither of them had such a teeny screen. In rain or cold, the benefit of a scooter is half lost unless the top half of the body is protected.

    • @exeterrider
      @exeterrider  2 года назад +2

      It's better than most stock screens. If it was any higher, many would complain they don't like having to look through a screen all the time. It's acceptable is what I found 👌👍

    I'm interested in this scooter sort of in between this the xadv and the tmax... This being lower on consumption and having a very practical storage to it (and the price) is very appealing...
    My only concerns are issues with the keyless ignition... Which I heard alot about... And more importantly the comfort for the pillion, that being top on my list of priorities...
    I heard that the suspensions are a bit on the hard side... What does your pillion say?

    • @exeterrider
      @exeterrider  2 года назад +1

      The keyless ignition thing, although I don't like it and prefer a old fashioned key,... Actually it isn't a problem at all on the Honda range.
      Yes the suspension is quite stiff, but not too stiff, but it has to be on a scooter really because soft suspension on a scooter, makes for bad handling, where as on a motorbike your sat different so you can get away with it. My 15 year old pillion, just said it was OK, but I can't get much out of him these days anyway 😂I like the ADV, great scooter.

    • @podunkman2709
      @podunkman2709 2 года назад

      Keyless is fantastic! U do not waste time to insert some metal there, check what pocket it is in... nothing. At same time no way to forget you need one - it will not start without 🙂 I had no problem with that. I know that some people did not know that you have to squize brake with some force to start engine - that is why they were complaining.
