It's weird to think that one team stupidly overpaying one player can end up costing the entire league.
They're ALL stupidly overpaid
@@aron352352Not when you consider the revenue an NFL team generates. People aren’t going to watch the grass grow, they’ve earned it!
Yeah it also doesn’t come into effect for another 2 seasons. Jaguars are playing a game, they are making a gamble that he’s gonna be amazing, and the gamble will be worth it.

We're talking about the insanity that was paying Eli Manning league-topping $21m/year back in 2015, right?
They should've showed a highlight reel of interceptions to make this discussion even more spicy.
And fumbles lol
i live in jacksonville.....and trust me....
we dont care about the interceptions as much as we care about the fumbles AND RARELY throwing touchdowns.
my mind is still blown away.... but deep down i always knew this would happen.

@@mattlol163 I legit feel sorry for Jags fans because I thought they were a juggernaut in the making when they brought in Pederson to lead all the talent that they've amassed. And the trash thing is that Lawrence seemed to have a high ceiling but his TD/turnover ratio is just ROUGH. I just dunno how this contract makes any sense.

Brock purdy screaming rn
Especially since he's making 900k a year. He's either gonna get 60m a year or he's gonna pull a Brady and take 30
@@kimyona9746 he could take 40 to 45m a year and it would be pulling a brady at this point.
@@middleagedgamers7750 honestly smart QBs wouldn't care about the year by year and pull a Cosby and get more guaranteed money. Brock honestly should do something like 5 years 225 fully guaranteed. He'd be guaranteed more money than any of these other big time QBs and paid 10 mil per year less. Even better if the spike cycle it like he gets 65 one year and like 25 the next
Bro is going to be so rich soon
Do the niners even have the space to sign him yet? Idk how these players that wanna be the highest paid of all time expect their team to have enough cap to build around them
How do people support QBs taking a quarter of the salary? Overpaid QBs do not win. This is dumb.
It's ridiculous. I think they should pay them all the same.
I've also been asking that for years. They need to start spreading that money around
Except Brady and Peyton
There's not a single QB in the league who's taken 25% of the cap. Burrow is closest at 24.5%.
Lawrence's contract is 21.5%, good for 10th highest at time of signing.
I see what your saying but look at the xfl ufl leagues. Bad quarterbacks make bad teams, which is not fun to watch and it's all about viewers. No one watching no one getting paid
Cj will have a 500 mil deal for 5 years with 375 guaranteed
I wouldn’t doubt it
Colored players always want money
Sophomore Slump on the horizon.
Remember back in the day when you had to actually DO something as an NFL QB to get a record-breaking contract? And when I say "do something" I mean something bigger than coming back from 4 scores down to the Chargers who only made the playoffs 3 times in 13 years
Lawrence had the Jags 8-3 and at the top of the AFC seed prior to spraining his ankle, shoulder, and picking up a concussion over the final quarter of the year. He got paid because all you have to do is watch his healthy games to see he's elite. It's now their job to build the roster around him.
@@delight9311elite??????

Imagine being so bad at this you think meme is "deep analytics." Lol.
It's funny how quiet sports media is with this deal . But everyone had a negative opinion about Lamar Jackson. He is not worth it, they said
And Lamar is far more worthy of his contract than Lawrence is. Hell people were dragging the Chargers for Herberts deal too and he's more worthy of his contract too.
@@ThePowerOfOneThePowerOfTwoI've got to completely agree Lamar is a good player and has kept the ravens in a solid position but Lawrence has really done nothing a 1st overall pick should do
The owners are cool with paying mediocrity, I suppose. I don't get it. This ain't Brady, Manning, Brees, Montana, Young, or any other great QB, out there playing.
@@Crab_People honestly man. For a first overall pick + his new contract his numbers are abysmal. TD/ Turnover ratio is pretty bad. And the one playoff win the Jags had he threw like 3 picks (4 total but I remember at least one of those picks wasn't really his fault). With the contract he just inked you'd think he orchestrated at least back to back deep runs or set some sort of record that no other QB has ever done..... or SOMETHING.....
And he's still not. Can't beat the Steelers.
How does Pat work in the media, but have absolutely zero media literacy
It's not hard to sift through all of the information and find out what his contract really is. You don't just have to trust whatever report you saw and make some underhanded comment about how reporters are always right
The QB market is destroying the integrity of the NFL.
By 2030 QB & WR1 will be taking up 55% of the cap, and everyone will be wondering why the league feels bland.
The position ls that actually deserve a pay raise is OL. Those dudes play every snap and they're the reason why QB'S and RB are able to do their jobs
Completely agree and people were mad at me when I said Jarred Goff new contract is absolutely insane, Dak Prescott abt to get the bag of the century 😔😂😂
The integrity of the league has been shaky for years.
That is completely true but sadly if you're not a tackle well a top five tackle you ain't even going to make fraction of what these overpaid QBs and receivers are getting

Most NFL games are just corporate events now. Fuckin sucks.
Just remember, these insane contracts are ultimately being paid by YOU, the fan. This insanity needs to stop.
Remember when Andrew Luck walked away and I think it was Jim Irsay, or someone, who said he could be turning down a half a billion dollars? Every one thought he was exaggerating at the time... He actually might Have been understating it!
Yeah, Andrew Luck was a real franchise QB. Homie threw 40 tds and ran another 7 in during his third season. Trevor can’t even pass for 30 tds in a 17 game season. That’s 1.7 tds per game and he can’t manage to do that. Sad.
@luisalejandro2335 I know trevor lawrence wishes he was andrew luck... I think he was gassed up enough to think that he was... But news flash... Part of what made luck so great was that
He didn't have that mentality like he was owed anything...
I genuinely hate that the last 4 years have been nothing but record contracts over and over for players who def don't deserve it
Folks saying they'd love being a QB with these salaries. Me, I'd love to come back as a long snapper and play part-time for 20 years without anyone hitting me.
It’s crazy the Vikings fought tooth and nail JJ for his contract but the QB walks in with a 50/50 record and “give that man 300 mill”
I still can’t believe the players union hasn’t put an end to these crazy quarterback contracts. WTF!
As a raider it hurts to say but. #15 out of Missouri is the only QB that should be making 30 million+. If im a gm 20 million per year 10 million per playoff win
Adjusting old sports contracts for inflation is hilarious. Like if Babe Ruth teleported to the modern day in his prime and was told a guy was just given 700 million dollars to do what he did imagine how he would react.
It's completely out of control how much these players are making. Then the owners have the balls to try to make cities use tax funding to pay for stadiums but the owners have no problem paying players 50 million a year while the rest of us are struggling to pay 100 dollars for 3 bags of groceries
Journalist not doing Journalism is why this is still an issue a week later. Its not a 5 year deal for $275. Its a 5 year extension to his remaining 2 years. Its a 7 year contract which brings it down to 43 million which is under Kirk cousins deal. Trevor is at $11 million against the cap this year $25 million the following year and when he finally gets into the big money its 2027 season when they have an option to restructure at that point.
Thank you because that makes a whole lot of sense. These guys just want a story.

@addisongio I feel that completely.
These QB contracts are going to become unsustainable at some point either that or QBs are going to have to not count against the cap because we're getting to a point now where it really is pay the QB or pay literally everyone else
You’re not wrong but Lawrence’s deal is only tenth highest cap percentage at time of signing.
We absolutely can not count the urban myer days!!!!
Every market is supply and demand. Since there is a high demand for good QBs, but a low supply of them, the value goes up.
They literally draft 5 in the first round every year
@@elonfux2492 And how many of them turn out to be busts? Most of them. Kenny Pickett was a 1st round pick. Trey Lance was a #3 pick, and he had a whopping 400 pass attempts from the beginning of high school through the end of college(big shocker that he never looked like he was ready for the league). Mitch Trubisky was a #2 pick. Daniel Jones was a #6 pick. Sam Darnold, Josh Rosen, Paxton Lynch, etc.

Ohhhhhhhh but Deshaun has the worst contact in the history of the NFL
275M? Thats a NBA contract!
I hope Baker and the Bucs go on a dynasty type of run to show that a QB making $50mil per year is not worth it
I'm surprised they haven't created a quarterback salary cap yet. X amount max of the cap for the b. Or a completely separate cap from other players
Paying the QB insane money only works out for the elite like Mahomes. And Mahomes will spread his contract out to help the team.
That's why the Cardinals paid Murray when they did. This gets worse and worse every year.
Imagine being bad at your job almost 40% of the time and getting the biggest contract ever 😂. This reeks of a desperate “yea but what if he leaves and we’re worse” move.
It's fomo, they know it's going to go up, and the % of drafted QBs that bust. To them an average starter who has some fan fare is needed for ticket sales. This move was to save money down the road, but sets a terrible market. GMs shouldn't be making dumb moves like this because they are the ones who are now spending 25% of their cap on QB WR combos, with 75% of the money left for the other 53 guys. Imagine being a GM and Tlaw and Christian Kirk are 1/4 of your payroll
If he’s worth 275, Baker is worth 500.
Football was so much better in the 90s and even better in the 80s. The 80s is when I first started watching every Saturday and Sunday with my Grandpa. They used to really hit and play D it was a beautiful thing. I still love 🏈 but it's not nearly as good. The money hasn't made it better but at least the players are getting paid they deserve it
I agree that it’s good that the players (some of them) are getting paid.
As for loving the hitting, I think that Mike Webster and company might see it a little differently.
Well, not Mike.
He’s dead from CTE.
I cannot wait for Brock purdy 80 million a year
As crazy as the contract is, I get it since they haven’t had a qb in 20 years
What is the dumbest Deal? JJ vikings... Watson browns... Trevor jags... Man these teams sure know to to screw their team big time and by extension the league.
As a Browns fan, I’m still sour about the whole Baker saga. We didn’t do right by him, and he should still be under center in Cleveland
Wasn’t this the same conversation we had after Watson got that guaranteed contract?
It's not as much as advertised. He'll average a little over 28 Million for each of the next five seasons, then two phantom seasons over 74 million which he won't see.
now the jags should pay etienne n reset the rb market
Brady ensured he had the best possible team around him... the reason his team won so much.
No player more screwed and vilified for wanting to be paid their worth than Erica Dickerson…
🤔
these qb deals are out of hand
QBs aren't being paid because they're talented. They're being paid because the lack of elite options at the position.
I think the day the Giants gave 40m per year to Daniel Jones, mediocre QB's are going to get paid way more than they are worth.
I cant wait for Love to get a contract and then he sucks lmao!
As a Titans fan, I am glad they threw all of this $$ at him for the hype he had coming out of college. The Jags overpaid big time.
Did they even try negotiating or what made them pay him this much ? Was this the minimum or he was gone ? I don’t get it
This money situation with the players is honestly getting ridiculous. The guys before would win sb, win playoff games, etc and didn't get anything close to what the players today are getting and not do either. These young players are coming into the league and telling Rodger Goodell , the team owners, coaches what to they will do and won't do. I don't care who you are, there needs to be a cap on what each player category should make. There's no way a player should get $200 million guaranteed, go out in game 2, and tear his acl, Achilles and the team is then looking for someone to replace him.
I remember a time when he was drafted and he was considered the next demanding or whatever essentially the same BS as Caleb this year
TL's contract ends up to be around $44 million a year if he doesn't meet incentives, which kinda defies the point, but it's still a team friendly contract over the long run.
I soured on baseball when the contracts started becoming just ridiculous, and I can see myself having the same thing happen with football. While so many people everywhere are underpaid busting their asses day after day and can't even afford to go to a game, other people are making more money in one year than 20 families would need to get by for life.
But, would you trade places with those players when they hit their forties and fifties, and they’re all crippled from their playing days, and their brains are mush from brain trauma???
I wouldn’t.
@@kellykloss4653 Maybe. Not everyone ends up like that. And the way the game is being played these days, I wouldn't doubt it if that kinda stuff becomes less and less of an issue. Linemen are the ones that really still take a beating.

I hope that your outlook is correct.
I really do.
But, I don’t trust the NFL, or those who have a financial interest in the game, to include the media.
My concern level remains very high, as CTE has been found in both college and high school athletes, which are both supposedly less gladiatorial than the pros.
A lot of people have railed against the lavish salaries that these football players are paid.
But, very, very few stop to consider that all of that money can’t purchase them health or longevity after they retire from the sport.
I don’t begrudge these men whatsoever.
I could never accomplish, or endure what they have.
I do appreciate your perspective, and feedback.
Anyone who wants top of the market pay without having post season success can pound sand. You can afford 2-3 all pros at the cost of that deal and every year draft new QB in later round.
I hope they set aside money for the offensive line.Without them he will be a puddle in the backfield.
Is this Shahid Khan flexing his wallet?
Remember when Watson's contract changed "guaranteed deals in the NFL forever"? Yea, the rest of the teams said "nah, we'll pass on that".
There are no 'precedents' set with this stuff, it's just market forces in action.
It's ridiculous. Wasn't the talk at the end of last season how much TL was underperforming? Let's see how the Stillers do with 2 QBs other teams are paying for. Now that's a model. Or how Rudolph will do at TN for his 5mill or whatever compared to TL. People should be paid but 275 million?
His stats are identical to Daniel Jones
Is the salary cap not a thing anymore?
The contract is structured to minimize the cap hit. Lawrence still has a smaller cap hit than Joe Burrow & Mahomes (Lawrence = 21.5% of salary cap, Burrow = 24.5% & Mahomes 22.7%). If you look at his contract, most of his money is coming in 2029.
Jags did the same when they traded for Christian Kirk and over payed him, made all the WR’s want more than him
It can’t go up forever.
Not paying your qb is old news, I can think of 10 teams tomorrow that would sign Trevor Lawrence to start
If anything blame Daniel Jones 🤷♂️
How bout we stop accepting below 500 records get paid.!?

Brady, the GOAT, has said over and over again, if you want to build a team and win rings, you gotta put the team first. That means leaving money on the table to pay other players.
This is why we won’t see greatest like that ever again.
This is correct, but Brady also had a near Billionaire wife and had exceptional endorsements off the field.
I hate comments like this brady at the time had a wife that was worth millions of dollars. Other athletes most likely do not have wives worth millions of dollars plus brady sign a deal for fox for over 300 million. Brady is a huge exception to that rule.
