Ángel retired last night. Best call he ever made.
He got that call right for sure!
I think MLB essentially paid him to go away. But he'll get a nice pension I'm sure.
yes
All the managers and teams should get together and refuse to play if angel hernandez is Working the game.
A strike against Angel Hernandez? Totally agree, lol.
they would loose millions of dollars. Not going to happen.
Fans, too. Don't buy tickets to any game he works. Force the league's hand financially.
Agree
It's all a moot point now because he's finally gone.
If I was as bad at my job as Angel Hernandez is at his job, I would have been fired a long time ago.
yes, MLB needs to something different about holding their umps accountable.
He just “retired” lol
Dude saw this video and decided it was time to retire
Crazy timing!
Angel would have to get a LOT better to be bad.
The bar is super low for him!
Yes, Angel finally made a great call, Good Riddance!!
He had a good run for over 30 years in the MLB for sure.
And he just announced retirement!!!!!😂😂😂 starting Tuesday the 28th!!!
You are on it!
Bad enough to announce his completely not forced upon him retirement mid-season.
The timing was definitely suspect.
There is something bad sick wrong with a sport where there is an official who has the entire league agreeing that he should not be officiating, but is still not only being employed but is being selected for the post-season. Nobody EVER accused baseball of having the best and brightest minds but there's stupidity, then there is this.
Hernandez getting selected to the post-season is mind blogging.
I think hes much more suited to lead a country.
Laz Diaz is a close second
I'm sure Aaron Boone agrees!
Nah, CB Buckner
His worst Call was in Detroit, when Gallaraga was Pitching a Perfect Game, and that game got messed up because of Angel
That game in particular is called the "28 out game." He still pitched a gem!
It was always amazing to me to see how terrible of a job Angel did, and yet the Umpires Union protected him til the day he retired. If memory serves, Angel sued the MLB multiple times as well because apparently they were racist for not letting him ump playoff or World Series games due to him being Cuban. The Supreme Court ruled that the MLB broke no rules and they weren't racist against Angel, if memory serves.
You are correct. The MLB umpires union is one of the most powerful unions out there. He did sue the MLB as well. There are reports that there was a settlement with him when he retired. Thanks for the comment!
Title update request: How bad WAS Angel Hernandaz actually? 😂
lol, the timing of his pending retirement is impeccable.
Thats 22 years too long. I know where the strike zone is and I'm nearsighted.
maybe MLB should provide glasses to the umps that need them.
If he made 19 incorrect calls per game in 2016, then his accuracy wasn’t 96.88%.
That's a good point to consider when evaluating accuracy.
By my math, that means he got 590 calls right in 2016. That must include flyouts in the outfield.
Fun fact: Angel Hernandez called a strike 6.78 inches away from strike zone😮
I almost fell of my chair, lol!
He definitely shouldn’t be named Angel.
lol
I have seen a lot of videos on Angel Hernandez, but the way you represent this video is amazing. It forced me to subscribe to your channel.
Thank you! We really appreciate your support!!
And, don’t forget C.B. Bucknor!
Angel Hernandez's best call: "I'm retiring from umpiring!"
yes, and confirmed about a hour ago. wow
Angel Hernandez has finally retired from umpiring.
33 years later!
Hernandez just announced his retirement.
yes, great call!
Nobody needs to worry anymore, he retired!
That's a relief!
Well, now we have Bob Davidson
I’m glad he’s finally gone he made some crazy calls over the years against my Yankees
My Red Sox too, I feel yah.
If there’s anyone who wants to umpire for a game, they should train and test, and then if they make wrong calls, they are out, if they make good calls, they stay
common sense to me!
@8:08, when the narration says Angel's lawsuit was moved to the Southern District of New York, the footage clearly shows the US Archives Building.
Thanks for the feedback. Looking into it and noted!
@@baseballyak Otherwise it was a great video. I knew bits & pieces of Angel's erratic work, but hadn't put it all together they way you had. Thx!
His three blown calls in a playoff game cost him the World Series that year, and possibly for good.
Totally agree on that take. Don't see him umping any World Series.
They should allow a review of every pitch thrown when he’s behind the plate…this guy should have been fired years ago
only a matter of time before the robot umps come...
Thank the lord he retired
The official "I'm outta here" move!
After seeing so many missed calls by other umps this year, some of them are running a very close second.
There have been many. No doubt it's a tough job, but AI will assist in the near future.
How do you only have 72 subs
I'm you're 73rd sub
Appreciate you and welcome to the Yak Fam! We are just getting started.
Thank GOD he is retiring.... worst thing in baseball period.
Great timing before the AI umps take over...
He retired, and the whole of baseball breathed a collective sigh of relief!!!!😅😅😅
No doubt Mark! Thanks for watching and appreciate the comment!
Laz Diaz, and CB Buckner-- "Hold my beer!"
Appreciate your comment and humor, lol.
One day a lot of people are going to owe Angel Hernandez a huge apology. He is NOT the worst umpire in baseball and notice its always the same videos shown to point out his miss calls. You umpire 20 plus years your gonna miss some calls. He is not the best, but not the worst and his reputation as bad only took off when MLB needed his reputation to go sour during his lawsuit. Yet nobody recognizes that. He has never scored as the worst ump, yet he has continued to be called that. Umpiring today is much better than it was before Angel's time in baseball. It continues to get better though fans don't think so, because they are of mistaken belief that the little strike zone box on their tv is always right.
Thanks for the comment! In 2023 alone he had 161 missed calls in 10 games. I would say the rankings vary year by year, but I get it's a tough job. Bucknor, Diaz, and Wendelstedt are giving Hernandez some competition in this category.
He’s so bad that he has to retire.
Great move by Angel.
I was just mistaken, that was Joyce, I'm very Sorry
No worries, we all have those "oops" moments!
This is on commissioners job to rid incompetent idiots if the nfl can do it how about the people in charge getting rid of him
You're right, accountability should be a top priority. The MLBUA is so powerful as well.
Angel is gone now. Is there any fixing this? Consistently poor performance by an umpire needs to be addressed.
Thanks for the comment! The MLB is testing ABS (Automated Ball Strike) system or essentially AI/robot umps already in the minors. During the 2023 season, they were tests at the AAA level for half its games and human umpires for the other half. AI umpires are talking over MLB sooner rather than later.
Made a mistake He was a MLB Umpire since 1992
Thanks for reaching out! He umpired his first game in May of 1991 for the MLB.
Very quality video for a low sub channel. subscribed
Thanks for the sub, and welcome to the fam!
“Hired !!” - every little league host
haha, that would be epic.
You can argue on the first one that the way the catcher caught the ball threw Angel off
Totally get it, and some catchers are real good as placing the ball.
Was he ever investigated for gambling? Because it really seems sus to have that bad of a reputation. I mean he didn't get to the majors with a resume or terrible calls. He had to have been doing something sketchy.
Not that I know of, but IMO he just wasn't good at his job. Wouldn't rule it out though.
I’ve always said while everyone has an imaginary box. He has a rapidly changing shape all dependent on how many flakes of cereal was in his bowl
lol, thanks for watching!
It would be funny if they named an award after Angel for the WORST umpire every single year. The show how many calls you've blown and how many miss calls you have made behind the plate.
Haha, love the idea of an award for the worst umpire! Imagine the acceptance speeches! Flip side to that coin, it would also be nice if there were awards like MVP, etc for umpires.
No need to put "actually" on the end of the title.
Thanks for your feedback and watching my videos!
Couple things. For an MLB umpire (the best in the world), he was obviously not good. That being said, he is better than any other non professional level umpire or any fan, media and person that criticizes him on here/anywhere else.
Agree with you 100%. Thanks for the comment and good take!
I don't know about not playing if hernandez is umping - but i DO know that i would NEVER pay a fine due to being tossed by an umpire that MADE A MISTAKE (and is too proud to admit it). in his case, the ego and arrogance to think your doing your job well fact is absolutely untrue - and the lawsuit by playing the 'race card' is pretty low.....even for that idiot! sadly, hernandez is just one more DEI 'hire' and you can trust me since i umpired for 35 years in 2 of the leagues they mentioned at the beginning~
Thank you for sharing your insights and experience with us!
He was bad enough that MLB kept him on the job for 33 years.
Thanks for your comment! Who knew being bad at something could be a job security guarantee for 33 years in MLB!
He keeps making rookie mistakes. One would think, as seasoned as he is in the profession, that he’d be showing marked improvement.
Absolutely. Like in any profession, experience should lead to improvement and growth.
He's number 33 out of 59 on the rankings for accuracy as far as I remember, correct me if I'm wrong, so how about we go after the ones who are actually worse.
Thanks for the comment. For what timeframe are your rankings?
What do you expect from Angel Hernandez?? He is the first legally blind ump in MLB history.
He is helping the AI push for MLB for sure.
This video could’ve been one second long consisting of a black background with centered white text that says, “very.”
lol, good point.
He is so bad that it is literally a criminal act to allow him to officiate a sport where gambling is legal. He has to be onnthe take.
I'm sure when he umps it affects Vegas line spread of the games.
Angel Hernandez, what a ..... surprise. He literally affects the outcome of games. Glad to know we have a diverse group of umpires.
He keeps us on the edge of our seats for sure...
He moved through the ranks like Sherman through Atlanta.
haha, you know your history!
Angel calling a game as if he is looking through the clouds!
lol Ray!
I read that he reached a deal with Angel. How much did they pay him off to leave? Can't fire them, so...
There are reports of him getting a settlement but not a raw figure so far.
His retirement was announced today, redsock and yankees fans are calling peace to celebrate.
Originally from Boston. 100%!
Players rate him poorly? Maybe horrible.
lol, thanks for the comment! Appreciate it
Seriously though I mean, if you take every ball he called a strike and every strike he called a ball, they pretty much just balance themselves out right?
Now that's an interesting spin on it TJ, lol. Angel Hernandez was focused on balance. Thanks for watching!
This aged well. 😂
for sure!
And now he is gone!
after decades with MLB, wow...
You deserve more than 105 subs
Thanks for the comment and your support! We are just getting started and will strive to create the best content. Appreciate you!
I would love to have seen Earl Weaver going at Angel. … Hernandez wouldn’t have had a chance… LOL
With Weaver's track record, he would most likely be thrown out of the those games at least once, lol.
Maury Povich’s doppelgänger, lol
Haha, no kidding!
Good riddance , You're up next Bucknor
That last Cardinals-White Sox was a crazy blown call by Bucknor!
Was this video the reason he retired?
I hope not unless he watches RUclips on his spare time when not at games, lol.
He is the worst empire I have ever seen! He’s somebody’s family member in the league!
Thanks for your comment. I know his job was hard, but he def had a good gig all these years
He chose the profession to ruin baseball
After decades of work in the MLB he is finally retiring...
I seriously doubt anyone whos making these bad comments , can do any better.?....
Thanks for the comment and your support! Appreciate you.
He will not missed.
Thanks for the comment!
Hernandez is in fact the worst ump ever, however the play at the plate with Michael Tucker was the right call. The throw beat him to the plate, but Piazza had a hard time getting the ball out and his foot touched before the tag was made. You can see it on the replay.
It's important to review the replay and analyze the play from different angles. Appreciate your perspective on it and your comment.
@@baseballyak I too thought at first he was out and believe me, I hate saying Hernandez was right considering umps like Him are ruining the game, but I remember ESPN showing the replay the next day and also saying the tag wasn’t made until after his toe touched. Of course they didn’t have hidef in those days, but he did miss him. Thanks to you for videos.
he made $$$ for intentionally missing calls. DUH
He made quite a bit money per year with the MLB alone.
California league?
Carolina League
Thanks for the comment and catching that!
He saves his "errors" for crucial moments in the game. He definitely is making money off the books from somewhere. Family sports betting with his money or something.
haha, are you saying he's the Tim Donaghy of the MLB?
They should have a party 🎉
👇
With some Takis!
Agree
Thank you for your support!
He retired
Yes after many decades. Thanks for the comment!
HE should be FIRED
He retired so close enough, lol.
He actually made a boring game interesting. 😅
Can't deny that, lol.
Wow he got paid that much money. LOL wow
about $430,000 per year at least! Not bad at all.
I call BS. Hernandez can't spell his name correctly 96.88% of the time.
lol Patron.
When he umps most don’t watch anymore as the game is always rigged it seems bad look MLB. Maybe time to get stationary umps and not humans as bad as this clown
Robot umps are coming especially in the world of AI.
Angel Hernandez he needs to be fired
He retired but there are some reports about a settlement but not confirmed.
This turkey needs to see an ophthalmologist because he clearly can't see properly with some of the calls he has made! Thankfully he retired and it's the best news MLB could ever receive!
haha, it's tough profession, but there needs to be more accountability in the MLB. Welcome news for sure when he retired!
I think someone needs to offer Angel Hernandez Islanders or Rangers tickets (any NHL team really). Seemingly nice gift. But early game, maybe after the first period or so, have Angel ejected to the cheers of countless fans. A taste of karma.
You should be a story teller. Such a creative scenario!
No all the umpires 🤬😡
I appreciate you taking the time to comment!
It's really how blind is AHo
Thanks for the comment! Don't know but stats don't lie.
Why do I feel like Angel Hernandez could be the next U.S president 🤣. I mean it would only make sense considering he hasn't been fired for being wrong most of the time 😂🤣☠️
Who knows, maybe we'll see Angel Hernandez running for office in the future!
Y’all know that white line isn’t always accurate?
Yeah, that white line has a mind of its own, doesn't it? lol
He’s the Biden of MLB
He certainly has been in the league long enough!
It's amazing overpaid athletes belief they deserve fairness after all they're special benefits in life
Thanks for the comment! All the professional baseball players worked hard to get to the MLB. I know that the MLB is working on getting robot umpires sooner rather than later to help the integrity of the game.
*Was
Thanks for watching! Yes, he retired after the video was posted.
@baseballyak Good timing. Too bad you didn't post it YEARS ago!
Sports refs making bad calls should be a felony
AI/Robo umps/refs will be here sooner then we think.
@@baseballyak They will be constructed by humans so they will be just as flawed
The worst ever!!!!!
Thanks for watching our video!
There's a video out there with "actual" research on Angel Hernandez. You should watch it and learn
Appreciate the comment and watching our video.
Why doesn't MLB players not go to their players union and file grie
vances against the umpire. They have video proof. They even have the support of their managers that come to argue with this ump. I'm a supporter of umpires especially behind the plate being replaced by AI and take it from there and see if it's better Joe Torre
It's definitely a valid point to consider filing grievances against umpires with video evidence. However, the MLB is very old school in their approach to anything IMO. However, the use of technology in sports officiating is a topic that's gaining traction.
He be gone!
Thanks for the comment. 31 years later!
in a weird way, Hernandez is the most famous ump.
yes infamous!
