    Tip for people with really oily hair: if you are having trouble getting your hair and scalp wet before shampoo, first, get it as wet as you can, then lather a small amount of shampoo into your hands and then your scalp and then wash that off. That breaks down the layer of oil so that you can get everything fully wet and then continue with your normal shampoo routine. The first bit of shampoo isn't for cleaning, but to just help get everything ready for a proper shampoo

    1. Comb hair
    2. Throughly wet hair
    3. Use a detachable shower if you like to wet your hair
    4. Use a water filter
    5. Don’t put shampoo right on the scalp, emulsify it in your hands first
    6. Shampoo in sections. Don’t neglect any areas of the scalp when shampooing. Lift up your hair in sections and shampoo each
    7. Don’t apply shampoo to the ends ( unless you have build up on the ends) otherwise shampoo will travel down to the ends when you rinse
    8. Don’t massage scalp too roughly or use fingernails. Use pads of fingers
    9. Properly rinse all of the shampoo out. Do a double rinse if needed
    10. Apply both an oil and then layer with a deep conditioning mask to your ends before you shampoo if your ends are dry
    11. If you have product build up or your hair is oily. Shampoo two times. Use a clarifying shampoo such as with apple cider vinegar. Use a clear shampoo which is formulated to remove oil and build up
    12. If you have a dry scalp use a shampoo that has a white creamier formulation. Apply oil directly to the scalp before shampooing and leave on overnight if you like

      @@AbbeyYung I use pH strips in my formulation process ... there are some tricks.
      First, get the ones with 4 patches on each strip - the ones with only one patch are useless. Also, try to get strips that focus on the range you need ... we don't need strips that cover 10-14!
      Second, you may need to dilute the product, as many are too thick to see results. The best way is to mix 19 grams of **distilled** water with 1 gram of product, then dip the strip according to directions.
      Third, work in strong sunlight or color corrected artificial light. The color differences are subtle, even with excellent color vision it can be hard to tell 4.5 from 5.0.
      I saw a video a while back where the host took a one patch strip, dropped AHA serum on it, and wiped it off with a tissue. You could tell the too-high pH serums from the lower ones, but that was about all.

    Would the deep conditioner even be able to penetrate the hair through all that oil? It would seem to me that the oil just builds a barrier and the deep conditioner wouldn’t be able to even reach the hair through that coat

    • @AbbeyYung
      @AbbeyYung  3 года назад +6

      It will depend on the oils that you use. Certain oils are more notorious for creating a barrier around the hair fiber than others. But the goal of this step is to create a coating that protects the hair from shampoo! Which is why I recommend adding a mask on top of the oil. This process works great for me but might not be for everyone 😊

    I've heard that you're not meant to emulsify a shampoo in your hands, because lots of suds when emulsifying on your scalp is an indicator that your hair is clean now (according to some hairstylists on youtube: the blowout professor & manes by mell).

    • @Notrees-q3g
      @Notrees-q3g Месяц назад

      It’s actually the suds themselves that is doing the cleaning. They even teach us that in healthcare, when we are taught proper handwashing. The bubbles in the suds actually grab onto not just the oil and dirt, but the bacteria as well. When you apply your shampoo the way that Blowout Professor does, you STILL have to work it into a lather to develop suds to do the job. Abbey’s method in this video is to help spread those suds more evenly and to make sure you cover the whole scalp. But much like Blowout Professor, she is also sectioning her hair when she does it.
      Both RUclipsrs are using a good method, but the common denominator and the key to it is to make sure you’re getting your whole scalp by sectioning your hair.

    I really needed this video! I’ve been washing my hair twice ever since I switched to SLS free shampoo because the lather is so weak on the first pass that I always feel like I need to go back and do it a second time, which always produces better sudsing. I assume the scrubbing motion I’m doing the first time is saturating my roots in a way that just standing under the spray is not accomplishing and that’s why the second wash seems to go much better than the first.
    Also, I just love your makeup in this video. Your lipstick is gorgeous and I love the brown flicked out liner. It’s more subtle looking than most cat eyes I see people do and it makes your eyes look huge.

    @Abby Young make sure you always use Pureology shampoo and conditioner that will keep your hair beautiful and healthy , Joico Lumishine Shampoo and Joico Lumishine Conditioner
    I’m hoping that Joico can make Joico Lumishine UV Shield Leave in Conditioner

    Great videos Abbey! I too have long natural blonde hair so I know the trials and tribulations we go through on wash day. I have extremely oily hair and have done almost everything under the sun to help my tresses. I am now using a cider vinegar shampoo that actually keeps the grease at bay halfway into the third day post shampoo! 🙌 Have you ever used a dry to wet shampoo product? eg Tweak’d by Nature. If so, what are your thoughts? Being a blonde takes work and your hair shows your commitment!

    Hi Abbey, my name is Diana and I’m starting my hair repair/growth journey and I’m literally watching all of your videos on the topic. With that I have a question when doing the oil on the ends and the hair mask is this better to do before or after shampooing? I hope this isn’t a stupid question I did see you used it on dry hair I believe on here but I do have very damaged ends so I just want to know what’s the best way 😊 Thank you so much for all these videos you have helped me understand so much and can’t wait to show my results ☺️

    Did these tips and wow I’m impressed. I usually wash my hair every 3 days because 3rd day my hair is usually getting greasy. But I washed my hair Friday night and Tuesday My hair still looked great not greasy at all!

    Definitely will shampoo the scalp and let the shampoo rinse out the strands without adding more shampoo to the ends.

    I'm 55 and I needed this. I have been actively searching for a video just like this! My unruly, bushy, cowlicky hair has never been washed correctly. If I had washed it correctly my whole life, I would have known that my coarse horsetail hair was extremely dry, low porosity, curly hair! Water is soooo underrated when it comes to hair. Please, would you define tangle? I know it sounds so simple but...I've always brushed, until a year ago. I don't get knots like other people do. Is it just different terminology?

      So glad to help! I consider tangles to be less severe forms of knots. Tangles can be brushed through whereas knots would break off if you tried to brush straight through them

    I can't go that long between washes. it literally irritates my scalp and I break out into massive dandruff if I go more than 4 days without a wash. argan oil can turn blonde hair yellow. I also feel like argan dries my hair out. I use a combination oil of meadow foam seed and argan.

    I've been watching a lot of your videos this week. So helpful! Do you not use Olaplex routinely? I saw your review and you seemed to like it but the wash day videos don't seem to use any Olaplex.
