Frankly, I think we should keep politics out of watches. They would spoil the enjoyment of admiring and collecting watches. There's always two sides to everything, especially in politics. China might be a bug bear to the West for what it is doing now and what it did during the Korean War. However, in South East Asia, many countries who were invaded and brutalised by the Japanese during WW2 still have not forgotten or forgiven the Japanese for what they did. Koreans may dislike what the Chinese did during the Korean War, but they hate Japanese with a passion for what they did to Korea for 50 years when Japan were their colonial masters.
It's especially galling that the Japanese are still taught in their education system that the Japanese Imperial Army were freeing Asians from the yoke of Western Imperialism, and they conveniently gloss over the barbarity of their conquering armies. I've visited Germany many times and have always been impressed by their museums in presenting and explaining the Holocaust with no-holds barred. In Japan, most of the museums portray their actions during WW2 as a liberation from Western Colonial Powers. There is hardly anything about the barbarity, germ warfare, and many others that their military committed in the name of their Emperor. Yet, surprise surprise, we all happily buying Japanese watches without ever considering that.

The western narrative is prevalent but the fact of the matter is many countries and people around the world look favourably on the action taken by the Chinese to save the North Koreans who suffered greatly at the hands of the US and its allies. Many of which were civilians. The Americans were eager to go all the way into mainland China 🇨🇳 if they hadn’t been stopped during the Korean War and their general Patton had no qualms about insisting on the use of nuclear weapons to reverse the tide!

Thank you for this review. I will definitely be wearing mine as the PLA defended the Korean people against the US brutality which led to all those deaths. I live in an aread where thousands of US victims are memorialised.

Big fan of their Ocean Star model. Considered this too.
Personally i'm not bothered by the politics. While i have several korean friends and quite familiar with the history, it would be quite hypocritical of me to avoid this watch when i own a North Korean Moranbang, South Korean Gold Star LCD watches, and WW2 Lanco German Luftwaffe, WW2 US Elgin etc.
Every country has comited war crimes at one point but whoever made those watches had nothing to to with murdering all those people.

Having this watch is the same as veterans memorialize the war they are evolved with. That's why you see Vietnam, 1st and 2nd gulf war car tags. As for the right or wrong of war your friendly politicians will have a "answer" for that.

I really like it, it's different and looks good too. I don't see the difference between wearing this or a flieger, 1963 or Vostok tbh.
    Cheers mate 👍🏻👍🏻

    Sorry for the automatic translation.
I found this video by chance, looking for information about this watch that had caught my attention. The truth is that, over the "classic" Seagull Military, which has been on the market for a decade, this "Korean" one has a special touch, especially in its strap. What slows me down a bit is the ST25 calibre, which I found unreliable in a Parnis. And now, the question is... why can it be "sensitive" to talk about the Korean war, and not about the endless military tributes to the WWII, even from the German side (B-Uhr), or other military watches like the Dirty Dozen or the Field watches?

Yes. Beautiful watch, but an offensive thing in the west to commemorate. Imagine a trip to South Korea or Taiwan wearing this watch unaware of its meaning. Yikes!

Vostoks and brands that use military stylings and vehicles of war as a design are a bit easier to digest since tools are are more divorced from the ideology that created them. I'm a fan of researching tanks/war planes from various countries and can admire how they were engineered, and not be offended by which side they were used by. The difference to me between a watch like this and Vostok/Fliegers is that the Seagull Army 1's design and message is specifically commemorating the Chinese military involvement in the Korean War, and I can't ignore their military's participation in creating North Korea.
Having Korea's 38th parallel on a commemorative watch for the Chinese army is kind of a gut punch to the nation that was split in half. As a result the North Korean citizens are trapped and suffering to this day, hence it's still an open wound and not a healed scar one can look back on like a history lesson. That said, I think the dial itself is very beautiful, and makes for a pretty handsome watch. If it was a watch made to promote unification or peace, I would probably pick it up.

A nice dial on an overweight watch with an offensive message written in English ! The irony is I bet this piece was never meant for a western market, why would any of us want to celebrate their brutality?
