I am glad this is not screw down crown. Much easier to use. The Lume on mine is great. I love the green strap it came with. The lack of anti reflective sapphire is no bother to me. I paid £170 for mine. 2 year warranty. £18 import duty on top.
Subbed for your dedication (the fact that you recorded the process of the lume dying down amazed me) and brutal honesty. And wow I knew Sea-gull was a good, but never expected this much detail from a "Chinese" brand
Most watches are "chinese" brands. 80% of the watches produced come from asia, China in particular. So, yes, the chinese do understand a thing or two about watches and it will take a few years and they WILL matter in the watch market. I have a few chinese watches, good ones, I'd say. Not perfect ones, but good ones.
Nice watch... mine keeps excellent time, not more than -2/+2 seconds over several day. I love the large and simple face which is easy to read. I have not minded the rotor noise and most of the time do not even notice it.
thanks for this..i ordered one just now via Aliexpress--- i really like it despite no AR coating- the sapphire glass doesn't scratch so easily which important to me , it's an impressive watch that is well made and solid at about £150 with a good movement and chunky look...I will change the strap like you did ...all being well, and lume ? I'll be asleep !. Thanks again.
David Dome I have been keen to buy this watch and I looked at it on the Aliexpress website you referred to. Is it the same watch? I note the Aliexpress watch does not have the side inscription and I note the date window background is dark black?
Awesome! Ive wanted a Tank. Ive got a Parnis with a Seagull ST25 movement in it and it has performed very well. The rotor isnt even noticeable though, odd yours is so loud.
Polished beveled edges. I like the case and hands on the chinese military watch, I am not a fan of the dial though. Although I can't see it well, the leather strap also looks nice. I enjoy these reviews better than the counterfeits... I hear Seagull is really starting to manufacture quality pieces.
frankly a screw-down crown is an annoyance imo. if you don't go diving, 50m basically means "absolutely can go swimming with this" and this is enough for almost everybody. for the most part, those big modern depths (deeper than mid 20th century diving records) are basically pissing contests. or the panic a man-child feels when he knows he could have a more waterproof watch "just for extra security"
I really enjoyed watching this review. real quality content and very well filmed. I have just purchased a Seagull 1963 and I am yet to receive it. And now I feel like I want to pull the trigger on this Type-99 tank. If only it came with a black dial and no pvd coating... Keep up the great work. I subscribe.
just received the watch ordered only 5 days ago! It is a beauty and I thank you for your reviews Nav San. I now need to find a leather strap because like you I am not keen o the supplied one... ...
Lovely watches, for sure but I've sort of moved away from worrying about the brand and the various "high end" features. I want a watch which looks nice, keeps good time and is reasonably tough and water resistant. Last year I bought an ANA-DIGI watch from a new Chinese maker called "Skmei" (you can find them all over Ebay) and, for 15 Aussie dollars it is just a great timepiece. It is accurate to about 10 seconds +/- a month, is water resistant and has taken some real knocks and it still keeps chugging on. For the price it just goes to show that money doesn't always equate to superior function.
Beautiful watch. I will see if I can get one (for cheap) next time I go to China (in october). The original green strap is very beautiful and really suits the watch (but it's just a personal taste). The 50 meter makes sense because a tank below 50 meter becomes a submarine ;-)
Its a beautiful watch. Personally, I would like to have that same watch with an ST36 movement in it and no date. The watch dial is awesome and also the case is just beautiful.
Forgot to mention that apart from messing with the chapter, they've used the same hands and just for you, filled them in completely!!The crown protection lugs are identical also............
Hello Nav San, and thank you for the wonderful review. I have just ordered this interesting watch directly from the Sea-Gull site and awaiting delivery. Could you now please be so kind to tell us where we can buy one of the wonderfully distressed leather watch bracelets such as you are showing in the video? Thank you again !!
The Sea-Gull Ocean Star is a gorgeous watch. I've got a blue one on order. But I must confess I'm less than enthusiastic this Sea-Gull field watch. I think the numbers are too big, and the typefaces too clunky. Not crazy about the odd shaped crown guards either. To me the much prettier San Martin 39mm Pilot/Military watch (SN030-G) with YN55A movement and 200M rating at US$135 has this beat. Also MIC Made in China.
I rather buy this watch that clearlyk says made in china than some swiss watches with chinese/japanese movement. If you want swiss watch just go for the real thing. Not some fashion brand watch.
Thanks for the review nav. Agreed on the hands. I would prefer solid sword hands too. I had my eye on this piece browsing through taobao. Lowest price I saw was 799 yuan. 999 yuan for the black one.
Yes thats a typical Taobao price you paid. I have the black one and have never been able to get over the rotor noise unfortunately so have hardly worn it. Great otherwise. Agree with the love of the 1963. I've got 5 pieces now with that ST19 chronograph in it and they are brilliant watches. They have a nice new line of manual wind very thin dress watches too, worth a look. Like you I'm just as happy wearing my Rolex's, Zeniths, JLC's etc as I am a Seiko or a Seagull. Another great vid Navsan. I'm currently Shanghai based and didn't know that fair was on. Doh!
The movement in Seagull is obviously based on a Miyota82**, that's why rotor is a bit loud. I got the same thing on my Citizen automatic. Not that suprising. But quality watches for "Made in China", and i love that Seagull Chronograph even more. Simply the best looking and cheapest mechanical chronograph ever.
No i dont think so. The ST25 movement got hacking, handwinding, while Myota 82xx only got handwinding. And the rotor is bidrectional winding, myota 82xx is unidirectional
An interesting review. I've quite fancied one of the 1963 pilot chronographs but as you mention they're tricky to find in the UK, I'd appreciate any advice you could give. Thanks.
No coating on the glass, noisie rotar, strange fixing of the hands. Sounds like they have a long way to go, even though they are around for more than fifty years. I stick to swiss watches, around since 200 years.
Wait till you see the tourbillon watches from sea gull I think you will change your mind. Did you know some parts that go into swiss movements are made in China. The parts are then shipped to swiss companys who just put them together thats why the swiss are changing the rules what can and can't be call swiss made.
yes, they are basing the "made in" by the value of the watch added in Switzerland. So some parts made off shore with cheap labour but assembled in Switzerland at higher labour costs. The value amount of Swiss labour allows the watch to say "Swiss Made".
Very Interesting video Thanks for wonderful information. Please suggest any link where we can purchase. Ali Express have lots of fake watches. Please you suggest.
As Steve Irwin once said, "This'll really piss him off!" Check out Nav Sans review on the Vostok Komandirskie. He was like a cross between a Soccer Hooligan and Malcolm Tucker. He started breaking out in hives long before it even hit his post box. I am actually glad the Seagull Chicom calmed him down.
nice review, but Sea-Gull is not so well know outside of China, wondering why they didn't expand their market outside of China. do u vlog during the watch fair? cant wait for the vlog :)
mirror less they are going to expand but for Chinese companies it's hard because everyone think made in China is rubbish. if people are willing to pay a fair price then they will get good products but most people want everything cheaper so Chinese factory make them cheaper. if this had Swiss made on the dial they would charge two times the price. I did make videos at the fair but 4 days of filming will take long time to edit down.
That's true, that's people mindset. Looking forward for the vlog! Btw, it's Chinese new year today. Gong xi fa chai and wish you all the best in a brand new year cheer :) Thanks and keep up the good work.
nav san thanks for the reply , think iv seen the answer in your Seagull 1963 vid “came with the watch. I’m only interested in an original Sea Gull factory made 1963 , looking like its impossible to guarantee buying in the UK ☹️ my daughter is cabin crew with BA , often flies to China , will look into that once she starts flying again .......unless you have any suggestions ? Again thank you got your time 🙂👍🏻
I thought you ment the strap on this watch. She can go into any seagull retail store and buy straps. Don't know if that strap would be available. This is close to the seagull but its 20mm and 22mm only, the 1963 takes 18mm. I have bought straps from this website but not this strap. eieiwatchstraps.com/epages/d0d41d80-cfd1-43c6-828b-ad6873b8d377.sf/en_GB/?ObjectPath=/Shops/d0d41d80-cfd1-43c6-828b-ad6873b8d377/Products/%22LIBERTY%20BrownST%20Pin%22
Confusion all round I was just commenting on how nice that particular leather strap looked on your 1963. I meant I will see if my daughter could get me a fully genuine Sea Gull watch on one of her flights to main land China , not even sure where they fly to , she usually gets a stop over , but all halted now with Covid 😷 again thanks for your time 👍🏻🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧
are you of Chinese origin, it's just that you spoke Chinese beautifully and with no hint even of an acsent .normally when an English man speaks Chinese you still know he's an English man speaking .👍
How does it compare to the BWAF D301 reissue? Found it strange that Beijing get to brand their milwatches after Aircraft carriers and the jets, while Seagull gets the Tanks.
I bought this watch half a year ago from reputable seller, so its deffenitely genuine. Love the design and size is just right for my big wrists. However the rotor on this watch its insanely loud. The grinding sound is so loud you can easily hearing it in a busy room full of talking people. Date window numbers also poorly align. Comapared to some seiko and orientr watches, this watch is simply to expensive and in reality should cost half of what it does.
Thanks for the video, I am looking to buy a 1963 and I have been warned that a substantial number of the ones on ebay and amazon could be fakes. I live in Macau and would like to know where I could get one from a reputable dealer
I wonder how many Chinese People actually wear Chinese Made Watches in China? The reason I ask is when you think of Chinese watch collectors they always seem to wear the higher-end Swiss and German brands.
It's Ok, but if a proletariat was given the choice between a Sea-Gull watch and say a Seiko of the same calibre, I think I know where the next Great Leap Forward would land and that would not be near the Shite Hawk.
I have been looking at this watch for some time now, but it seems hard to get by? I have been looking at what at least seems to be their official websites for the US and Europe, where the watch is sold out both places. On the website they also warn against ebay sellers and other websites because of a lot of fake watches in circulation. Do you know anything about this?
In fact Seagull don't have official websites for the US and Europe that site is fake and you're likely buying fakes from them. They are not linked to seagull at all. Anyone can get a website address if its not been taken. Only way to buy a real watch is to buy from in China.
@nav san Oh thank you! I have been wondering about this as well. I have also seen a few pictures sirculating of a Sea Gull D813.581 with a red star and hanzi writing on it. below is a link to an image. Do you know if this is a real Seagull or a fake redesigned one? good-stuffs.com/assets/images/wsgarmywatch/zsjj/zj11.jpg I have only seen this watch of good-stuffs.com, and that website doesn't actually shine from credibility. So you say the only way to get a propper Seagull watch is to travel to China to buy one? Or might they have a chinese website to buy from?
Its come with the star logo and the wing logo like mine. The problem is fakers use stolen watches photos from websites or instagram. If you're going to buy get then to take new photos with the date and your name on a paper next to the watch then you know its the watch. Bit of a mine minefield buying a watch online. get it from ebay then if it fake you're covered with paypal. Not many new watches around I think most on ebay are second hand. my email is navsanya@gmail.com if you wanted any help.
I heard they sell them at a cheaper price because they don't oil them and that's probably why it's so loud. I'd open it up and spray it down and will make the watch last longer.
glad to see that Chinese can make quality originals.. not just replicas
I own Seagull watches besides Swiss, German and French watches. I would sell all other watches before I sell my Seagulls.
Why
I am glad this is not screw down crown. Much easier to use.
The Lume on mine is great.
I love the green strap it came with.
The lack of anti reflective sapphire is no bother to me.
I paid £170 for mine. 2 year warranty. £18 import duty on top.
Sea Gull is one of my favorite brands as well.
Subbed for your dedication (the fact that you recorded the process of the lume dying down amazed me) and brutal honesty. And wow I knew Sea-gull was a good, but never expected this much detail from a "Chinese" brand
Wait till you see the tourbillon watches from sea gull

0:48 Holly shit on a stick! Someone in China very kindly offered you to buy a watch??? Must be a first in history!
great video, the potential of Chinese watch making is underappreciated....
It's going to take a few years and they'll dominate the watch markets; not the high spec watch market though.
I like all your videos they are very inspiring for me on making purchases on my watches ty for making the videos keep them coming please
This watch is beyond cool. Thanks!
"CHINA MADE"
How cool is that!?
Its a beautiful watch! Love it
Polished beveled edges. I like the case and hands on the chinese military watch, I am not a fan of the dial though. Although I can't see it well, the leather strap also looks nice.

Dear I need to change sapphire glass of this watch - Can you please guide what size of sapphire glass I buy for install.
Please do guide
Love your video. great job.

I'm with you would have bought the black dial if was not in PVD. My 1963 rewview should be up in few weeks.
just received the watch ordered only 5 days ago! It is a beauty and I thank you for your reviews Nav San. I now need to find a leather strap because like you I am not keen o the supplied one... ...
Great. If you make video send me link.

considering sea gull don't have agents in USA that a very good fake seagullusa webstore is selling and good price for a fake.
Its a beautiful watch. Personally, I would like to have that same watch with an ST36 movement in it and no date. The watch dial is awesome and also the case is just beautiful.
what's a good wed site to purchase? luv the video and insight on the watch thank you.

Lovely watch and choice of strap, but that rotor noise.. ouch!
Cmdr Flint the noise is annoying at first but soon get over it.
subbed, just ordered one of these, cant wait for it to arrive.
Hello, what online website do you buy it from?
Chaiwat Ratanapusdeekul im interested too
Did you paid custom duty wirh dhl post?
Lee Botticelli no
Beautiful strap! What is the brand again? I couldn't tell what word you were saying. Maybe a link to the strap company?
Awesome thank you.
thanks friend i was waiting for this
Hello Nav San, and thank you for the wonderful review. I have just ordered this interesting watch directly from the Sea-Gull site and awaiting delivery. Could you now please be so kind to tell us where we can buy one of the wonderfully distressed leather watch bracelets such as you are showing in the video? Thank you again !!
Is it really st2553? I got one yesterday and I could not be more pleased with it. But other places I heard that movement is st16?
EXCELENTE RELÓGIO 👍👍 🇧🇷
The Sea-Gull Ocean Star is a gorgeous watch. I've got a blue one on order. But I must confess I'm less than enthusiastic this Sea-Gull field watch. I think the numbers are too big, and the typefaces too clunky. Not crazy about the odd shaped crown guards either.

They should just make all watches with a bi-directional winding rotor which you can't hear at all. That watch is NICE!👍🏻
China make very good watches indeed. however Japanese watches is the only watchmaker that can challenge swiss by far.
This watch is amazing. I want it.
I rather buy this watch that clearlyk says made in china than some swiss watches with chinese/japanese movement. If you want swiss watch just go for the real thing. Not some fashion brand watch.
great watch and great review!
Thanks for not being a watch snob
Thanks for an interesting Vlog,I'm interested in the 1963 Segull and would like some tips on purchase, yours Chumly Warner Esq.
I just bought one for less than 10 dollars :D (really). The PVP is ridiculously high for what it is. The comparison with wearing an Omega was funny...
China can do good interesting watches.
Great closeups. Good video.
Beautiful watch!
But, why not a excellent green Nato band?
Whatever, good video.
Congratulations.
Cheers.
👌👌👌
Im not fan of NATO straps and also wearing a NATO strap on a chinese watch is just wrong. It like going to Chinese restaurant and asking for ketchup.
I can't find them in their official online store, both the type 99 and 1963 chrono are both not available~
Do you have the link to share? I would like to purchase this model.
Thanks for the review nav. Agreed on the hands. I would prefer solid sword hands too. I had my eye on this piece browsing through taobao. Lowest price I saw was 799 yuan. 999 yuan for the black one.
Just be careful on taobao lots of fakes on there. Ask for photos of the watch before you buy they use stock photos most of the time. Great watch
Another great vid Navsan. I'm currently Shanghai based and didn't know that fair was on. Doh!
Carl Stow This was back in November. Might be in sh in June have to meet up and have watch chat.
I thought the tanning on this wristband looked familiar to me... finest Swiss army leather.
An interesting review. I've quite fancied one of the 1963 pilot chronographs but as you mention they're tricky to find in the UK, I'd appreciate any advice you could give. Thanks.
Lovely watch great leather strap. 🇬🇧
kindly show lume in the dark too thank u..
the MIYOTA and SEIKO 7s26 is like that also loud when shaken.
funny to see the - China Made - at the 6 marker... with the same font swiss watch makers use.
i keep looking at it. think will buy
You get what you pay for. Like Nav San has said, you should try out the high end Seagulls, which included the tourbillon movement watches
yes, they are basing the "made in" by the value of the watch added in Switzerland. So some parts made off shore with cheap labour but assembled in Switzerland at higher labour costs. The value amount of Swiss labour allows the watch to say "Swiss Made".
Hight quality video you earned a new subscriber
i love it...i want to buy
Amazing watch
Why did they make it so big. Doesn’t really look like a field watch imo.
Very Interesting video Thanks for wonderful information.
Please suggest any link where we can purchase.
Ali Express have lots of fake watches. Please you suggest.
Great review! Where can you get that ocean star?
Harold Anaya send me email navsanya@gmail.com
That's almost the same watch as my Vostok Komandirskie!
As Steve Irwin once said, "This'll really piss him off!" Check out Nav Sans review on the Vostok Komandirskie. He was like a cross between a Soccer Hooligan and Malcolm Tucker. He started breaking out in hives long before it even hit his post box. I am actually glad the Seagull Chicom calmed him down.
i like your straps :)
c'est la montre la plus précise que n'est jamais eu, sachant que je possède des hamilton tissot avec des eta 3824 Valois 7755...incroyable
great watch ☺👍
plz could u recomend a good hotel in shenzhen futian or any place will be better than futian in shenzhen if you could
thank u so much
Great watch. where did you find those great worn leather straps? Thanks in advance.
Most from this website eieiwatchstraps.com
and some custom made from here

Just discovering Sea gull , love the 1963. May I ask where did you get the leather strap from , have searched and googled with no joy.
Sorry I don't remember it was so long ago.
nav san thanks for the reply , think iv seen the answer in your Seagull 1963 vid “came with the watch. Confusion all round I was just commenting on how nice that particular leather strap looked on your 1963. Need to source the watch first 😬
Happy New Year Nav San.
Thanks. Back in UK now its always crazy to travel in China this time of year. Back there after new year.
Nice review ! Put watch on my shopping list. There are some sources in Europe. Hopefully reliable.
are you of Chinese origin, it's just that you spoke Chinese beautifully and with no hint even of an acsent .normally when an English man speaks Chinese you still know he's an English man speaking .👍
Would a Hindi Man also have accent Chinese?
He had a terrible accent...Paul you need to get hearing aids
How would you pronounce it?
We have so many people enrolling in the army. Practically anyone can be a commander.

How does it compare to the BWAF D301 reissue?
Found it strange that Beijing get to brand their milwatches after Aircraft carriers and the jets, while Seagull gets the Tanks.
Never seen a BWAF D301 reissue so couldn't say if its any better than is.
I got mine for the same price on Taobao. Its a great watch for the price but too big - especially thickness-wise.
Thanks for the wonderful review
Brother can I buy This D813.518 from Ali Express ?
Don't trust Ali Express its full of fakes.
How can I get an original watch.
What did you pay? I paid the equivalent of $120 in China. Considering it has sapphire glass, hacking, and hand winding, it's a good price.
Thanks for the video, I am looking to buy a 1963 and I have been warned that a substantial number of the ones on ebay and amazon could be fakes. I live in Macau and would like to know where I could get one from a reputable dealer
They sell fake ones. I know some one who bought a 1963 from them and it was fake.
Thanks for the link but I don't need it I buy my watches from Seagull in China already as I live there part of the year.
A pro Seagull video with Seiko adverts. How Ironic.
I wonder how many Chinese People actually wear Chinese Made Watches in China? The reason I ask is when you think of Chinese watch collectors they always seem to wear the higher-end Swiss and German brands.
most Chinese don't wear watches, they rather spend it on iphone.
Awesome Bro! I subbed...

intra morph on Taobao online shopping, heaps Chinese military watches, said watch only ¥799yuan, about Au$160.
Just watchout for fakes on Taobao and scamers buy a watch get a brick.
Dear friends
What is the Crystal size of this watch?
Check in your dishwasher ,it looks like the size of a dinner plate ,wear it on your neck like a rapper !

Mind to share where you bought this watch ?
Hi Joseph If you listen to the first 20 sec I tell you I'm at the shanghai watch fair and continue to listen.
Does the movement 'tick' loudly?
No its just the rotor
This is only 1 Chinese watch maker that i can trust
Take a look at shanghai watches they are very good.

shanghai brand maybe one of the best in china. actually, all this old classic factories still munitions factories. they have the best quality stuff.
Seagull is a very decent brand, but this watch is not built to mil spec at all.
Hi nav! haha, i bet you like that chinese watch than that Vostok you reviewed . nice vid!
haha absolutely. The sea gull is much better quality and no gimmick crown or clown dials.
@nav san
Oh thank you! I have been wondering about this as well. I have also seen a few pictures sirculating of a Sea Gull D813.581 with a red star and hanzi writing on it. below is a link to an image. Do you know if this is a real Seagull or a fake redesigned one?
good-stuffs.com/assets/images/wsgarmywatch/zsjj/zj11.jpg
I have only seen this watch of good-stuffs.com, and that website doesn't actually shine from credibility.
Not many new watches around I think most on ebay are second hand. my email is navsanya@gmail.com if you wanted any help.
nav san Paul's
XirTiK easy to find, just access Taobao online, or download its app. from Google play, big choice s there, also many beidou satellite watch etc.
I like it, too bad it's so huge. I have tiny wrists (
"Water resistant only to 50 meters." ONLY??? Can you swim? You don't need watch if you are in that deep as you will be already dead there.
+yourserenity Personally I wouldn't even submerse a 50m WR rated watch. For watches 50m WR doesn't mean it's resistant to actual 50M depth.
I heard they sell them at a cheaper price because they don't oil them and that's probably why it's so loud. I'd open it up and spray it down and will make the watch last longer.
Where did you hear that?
dont know that, but I can confirm that they make a lot of noise,,,,,
noise = friction.friction is not good.
The movements that Seagull sells to 3rd party like Parnis Invicta are left un-oiled. But the ones inside Seagull watches are already oiled
Spray it down?
Would you recommend WD-40?
