I'm using a similar technique. Every time I want to write a sentence in English that I'm not sure if it is correct or not (English is not my native language) I am Googling the sentence in quotes. Then I'm using the search function (Ctrl+F) of the browser to further search the results to see whether this sentence has been used in the past and how many times. I'm doing this because I'm not confident about my English but in this way I'm learning something new every time.

Manual translation is a lot better though this is great. For example, when 'mannerless man' is translated to Hindi, it shows निर्दोष आदमी which means 'innocent man'. But word to word translations are cool, and 'mannerless' is translated as बेअदब, which is correct.

This is not a weakness. "Cake by the Ocean" became a hit song. This is how AI comes up with poems and lyrics. It only needs to be matched to music created by publishing committees and their software. Your phone will rock to these tracks.

I avoided translation sites for a long time. I still pictured them coming up with the weirdest phrases because of too literal translations. But that was 10 years ago with babelfish and such. I used Google translate today and I was stunned to see how accurate it was. I translated a page myself for like half an hour and at the end used Google translate for one phrase. It was really accurate and I wondered how it would translate the whole page, conclusion: I wasted at least 25 minutes of my time!

So, basically, GT (Google Translate) "learns from it's mistakes" and so the more translations, whether it's the right translation or the wrong translation, it will take the words you are trying to translate and the outcome, "duplicate" them and store it in some kind of library to reuse whenever necessary.

The official language of the Philippines is called "Pilipino" or as commonly called "Tagalog". Generally speaking, the so-called dialects should be considered as languages because I can not understand Cebuano and all the other "dialects. Hence, Tagalog was decided to become the official language of the Philippines.

Hello Google. I just wanna ask about this... How about devising a narrative that comes in many grammatical formats that are produced by (an) expert(s), then translated into different languages/dialect that could be a "solid" basis/foundation of Google Translate and the other searches can come as supplements.
    Example:
She sells seashells by the seashore.
*finds the format (pronoun) (verb) (noun) (preposition) (determiner) (noun) from the devised narrative
*if not found, finds a closer one and the supplements are used
*translates to different language given the word and parts of speech format
*could also raise an alternative, so that better suiting forms can be found by the user
*the devised narrative is just developed for a more solid and efficient search
I don't know if you get it but I hope I'm making sense here.

What Google needs to do is to market a pocket calculator-sized translator based on this program. Google translate is freaking amazing! I speak 2 languages and its translation of one to the other is deadly accurate every time. It's almost spooky. I'd never seen anything like it before. Such a calculator would take off like an iphone all over the world if it could translate, read and speak the major languages the way google translate can.

+James Emerson Assuming that I use translators instead of dictionaries, which I don't, because of the inaccuracy. Because Amante said it doesn't suck ass anymore I gave it a try.
I bet that google has the best non-human translator on the web though and I think it's great that they're working on it. But for now it's in its learner stage as are the programmers.
No doubt in the very near future algorithms will be written that allow a computer to extrapolate syntax and grammar based on meaning and visa versa and learn new languages just by scanning a few documents, books and such, correcting itself by comparing its results to other documents, books, etc.
Probably even learn to pick up a language by voice input and being able to give a feedback in the proper language some day.
Google's making great progress, but we're far from that. Right now there are migrants in the Netherlands who rely on google translate to translate legal mail. I think it's great that they don't have to ask their neighbour to translate every single letter they get and we have google to thank for it, but they pretty much have to ask their neighbours to verify and explain it anyway because google translate is still just that bad with grammar.
I will miss the jokes for a while though, but that's a small price to pay for the convenience of being able to translate mail, menu's, ingredients, signs, etc. in different countries.
Besides that I think that every twelve year old should be speaking, typing and reading English. Not being able to understand English on the internet pretty much makes you illiterate in this day and age. You'll be missing out on videos, forums, games, scientific papers and pretty much all kinds of information and severely limits your ability to discuss something if you only speak your native language and perhaps some Spanish and Mandarin.
Take your software for instance. You can install it in pretty much all languages, making the names for all menus, options, etc. different, or if it's a game the items, abilities, etc. Now, let's assume you have a problem that you can't figure out and you go to the companies webpage or a forum for support. Guess what, it's in English. You can try google translate and it gives you an approximation of all the names of the menus and options. Luckily Windows now has the option of putting all your open tabs and programs next to eachother so you don't have to click back and forth all the time to figure out what the hell you're supposed to be doing.
But wouldn't it be much easier if you had just installed everything in and understand English to begin with?

Works like a text to speech robot generally does. It first analyzes accent really quick to get a quick guess at the language, and if it hears a word from that language, it'll continue to translate it. That's why using detect language all the time isnt the best

Google Translate is good, sometimes it makes me laugh when I translate sentences because it gives a funny sentence which is really not the one that I wanted to translate. It could not be perfect but it is helpful tho.

Could you make an update about the current system? I noticed it improved exponentially in a pretty narrow time frame, which makes me think you guys implemented some new algorithm (or taught!). I consider myself as someone with a pretty decent english and sometimes I feel like Google translator does a better job than me at translating long paragraphs from English to Spanish and vice versa . Godwin's Law states that as an argument gets longer, the probability of a reference to "Hitler" or any of some such atrocities "raises to 1". Once it is mentioned, the person who said it automatically loses the argument.
But the missing key component is that there has to be an argument first, which there is no evidence of in this case.

I think Google Translate should focus on what the text says. For example, when the text has the word "letter" and there and already letter names in the text, it should only translate letter to whatever language.

Google translate fails to take into account some expressions that are not meant to take literally. For example, if you type in "i'm on cloud nine", it will literally translate to other languages as someone (self) being on cloud 9, rather than a more appropriate translation, which is that they are happy. I'm sure there are plenty of other examples in which Google translates literally translates when it's not supposed to. Hopefully Google will fix this sometime.
