Alto Choir Practice: “O come, O come, Emmanuel” from the Latin text "Veni, veni, Emmanuel” written in the 12th Century. John Mason Neale provided an English translation of the text in the mid-19th century. The hymn tune itself is the hymn tune called “Veni Emmanuel” linked in 1851 by Thomas Helmore. The “Veni Emmanuel” tune predominates in the English-speaking world. It is one of the most solemn Advent hymns, based on the biblical prophecy that God will give Israel a sign that will be called Emmanuel , with the fulfillment of this prophecy in the birth of Jesus of Nazareth.
