I picked up an 85 ATC 250ES years ago, it was originally a parts bike, missing the starter, the exhaust and the carburetor, at the time, all I could find was a 350X carburetor, the only thing I had to do was build a bracket for the choke cable for it to work. Free flow exhaust, the thing is a monster, add 150 pounds on the rear rack and you can push snow all day. It's definitely not a sports machine, great trail machines
Hi Kalyb, the 250es is a tank of a machine. Sounds like you found a good one. The 300ex carb is a direct bolt on but if the 350x carb is working for you and not loading up or fouling plugs than great. They are great machines for all types of work or play. Thanks for watching and sharing.
i like the shaft drive but i really really like the high and low range i have a sx and yeah it has that super low but its not the same. i think all big red should have high and low but i get they are based off their other models and they probably didnt want to redesign it
That carb deal looked good, would I be mistaken that it would fit the 250sx also? The best mod I added to a 250 was an exhaust from a sportster and tried different length baffles till I got the most grunt out of the machine . Then came the small mods on the baffle itself until I got a little more power. Used mufflers are cheap enough and throwing $8 baffles at it don't hurt at all. Take care and keep up the great work.
I have an 84 that I have spent the last few months refreshing and fixing up and it purrs like a kitten after 1 or 2 pulls. not used es yet. I have 2 issues. It won't pull me up a hill even in first and I can't get it in reverse. do I need to tear into the transmission? love the channel!
Hi SBG, the 84 is a great machine, with practice you can even pull wheelies, if your sure the carb idls good, then i would start with checking the timing. You say its purs like a kitten so carb and valves should be fine. Clean or change your plug, you may need to advance your timing. Are you sure you are in 1st? As for reverse does the pluger have resistance when you lift it upwards? How about when you move it forward or backwards? Start the machine, be in neutral and try to engauge reverse, you may need to rock the machine just a bit and the plunger should slide into reverse. Does it shift from low to high? Does it feel like the engine is reving but not increasing speed? If so you may need a clutch. Let me know what you find out. And thanks for watching
@@Mrcbuilds It goes into hi lo very easily and I do have a hard time finding neutral. carb is good after about 4 cleanings and a lot of trial and error to get it running off choke. rode it a bit ago and it pulled hills with momentum until about the 5th lap then no more. I'm guessing heat is a contributing factor so maybe clutch? Reverse doesn't change with rocking. It gets half way there then just stops. not really even resistance. Even bigger fan now that you took time to reply! Thanks so much!
I put a new carb on my big red 250es and it's running rich and chokes down and wont even idle once it warms up. Can you give me any hints on how to tune the carb? I have no idea. 😅
What carb did you put on it? You can test a few things first, remove the air box lid, does that help or hurt? Warm the engine and leave the chole on, does that help or hurt, read your plug, black is rich white is lean. Honestly if the carb is a quality piece its pretty plug and play. If it is really rich back out the fuel enrichment screw 1/2 at a time testing as you go. If you do not see any improvement with in a few turns, you will need to rejet the carb with a smaller main and start jet.
@mrcbuilds jdllong is the brand. I got it off of Amazon because it's supposed to be oem spec. I already had a China carb exactly like the one you removed in this video and it was plug and play. That's another thing that has me confused. It runs great with the other carb so I know the carb is the issue. The other carb just doesn't fit very well. The design of the throttle cable is terrible. Doesn't fit right.
Watching one of your videos helped me solve an electrical issue that had my 250sx down for over a year. Now I know where to get a carb (it runs but very poorly). I'm like the 20th owner, and to say it's rough doesn't scratch the surface. I still ride it like I stole it! How much will you be selling that Big Red for? I'd love to have one that doesn't look like it just came out of The Road Warrior. And if not that one, maybe another that you want to sell some time down the road. Thanks for the help and happy riding!
If that's the only 250 big red you have, I don't know if you'll find another nice one like that. I regret letting go of the last two I had that were in nice shape. I know as you mention the BR isn't your cup of tea like the other ATC's. I just bought another 85 250 BR last week because it was all original and in fair shape. I myself am going to sooner or later find a 350x to add to the collection. I think I'm becoming a Honda Hoarder LOL! BTW, I really like the parts that 223cycles offers, and the carb kits are nice and not junk. If it wasn't for you advertising 223cycles, I probably wouldn't have found them. 👍
Thanks CJ7fun, curtie is a real guy, making and selling real good products. He is a good friend, thanks for checking him out. My 85 just sits, i never ride it, now i have a track and the sports machines have my attention. Dont worry i have the Sx.lol
Would a person call that tune up kit the mrc special? That what I'm calling Curtie for, the whole box. Having problems with my big red at bottom end. Good vidja brother.
I love your compassion for all these machines. (RB Rock)

In my opinion the 350X is the king of comfort and power. Gotta love a freshly groomed trail.
Thanks Hanky, i have grown very fond of code red 350x. It really is a pleasure to ride. I like how predictable it is.

The high and low was a great option.
Awesome video sir! Love how the track is coming together. I really think I need to make a trip out to try it out myself.
You sir are always welcome
I've been really kicking around picking up a curtie 300ex carb. I may have to do that in the next couple weeks

Yes sir. Will also work on the ATC250SX
@@223cycles2 Thanks, I wasn't sure that the difference in the chassis might screw things up.
85 250es is the pinnacle
It has its place. Just as the R sucks at gardening. Lol
@@Mrcbuilds yep I've done things on a 250 big red that I didn't think a small tractor could do
Great vide, I was laughing about the snake part because we’ve been sort of dealing with the same thing. Lol.
I aint gonna lie, spring time in the south can be scary
You can throw it in a corner but it takes a lot more to get out with your wheels on the ground

First! 🤘
I run a 400EX carb on mine.
Its so nice having a pumper carb
Nice
My question is what did you have to do to get it to fit
Been thinking about upgrading the carb on my '85 200X. Any ideas? Was looking at the 27PD Keihen kit from DG but can't find any info on it.
Id send that question to Curtie at 223cycles.net he could answer it better than I can. I think the real limit to that machine is the intake.
@@Mrcbuilds Thanks, I'll do that.

How did you do the led heads on the 350x? Looks awesome
Hey, thise are 3x5 l.e.d. light i made a bracket and epoxied them to the bracket, and bolted them into the factory housing
