When you are using Tamiya putty, can it be mixed with water? Or special thinner for that?
Tamiya putty can't be diluted with water. For dilute it, you can use lacquer thinner, extra thin cement or acetone.
Acetone? 🤔
Yes, I use it for dilute the putty, so you can keep the putty fresh for a while. Some other products can be used like extra thin cement I think.
Cheers
@@notjustpanzer yes, I understand the reason, I’m questioning the choice of solvent. Lacquer thinners are the usual choice, and while acetone is part of the mix, it is not the majority component. Acetone on ABS plastic (styrene) is a good way to create ‘sprue goo…’
Of course, lacquers thinners are a good option too.
There is no specific reason why I use acetone, just because I learnt this technique using acetone and so I continued. I think you suggest some plastic melting issues when using acetone, the truth is that you need to use a very very heavy amount of acetone to cause some damage to the plastic. I have been using acetone and tamiya putty from more than 10 years and I never had any problem with it.
