Tree Branch Crochet Stitch

This crochet Tree Branch Stitch is full of texture and very different. Follow along with these instructions:
Tree Branch Stitch, Crochet
Use the hook that the yarn calls for
Multiple of 4
sc=single crochet
dc=double crochet
Repeat from * to *
Chain stitches.
On the 4th chain from hook,
Row 1.- *make 3 dc, skip 3 and on the 4th, make 3dc*,
end with skip 3 and on the last one, make 2dc.
Row 2.- make 3 chains up, turn. Skip the first 2 dc and
*on the space, make 1dc, 1soft dc on the middle base chain and 1dc on
the same space*. End with 2 dc on the last loop made by the 3 chains.
Row 3 and every row:
make 3 chains up, turn. Skip the first 2 dc and
*on the space, make 1dc, 1soft dc on the middle chain from the row
below and 1dc on the same space*. End with 2 dc on the last loop
made by the 3 chains.
End work with 1 single crochet on every stitch.

I'm so confused. This is a beautiful stitch, but it started with 20 chains and is now only 14 stitches. What happened to the other 6? My 200-stitch blanket is now only 150. Can anyone explain?

@@JoannesWeb Yes i am ending with 2 double crochets on every row. I started with 200 stitches in the base row. The pattern is skip 3 chains and work 3 double crochets in the fourth chain. 200 divided by 4 is 50. 50 times 3 is 150, add 2 double crochets and that is 152 stitches. where did the other almost 50 stitches go? It appears to be the same size but I'm just confused. Thank you
I’m discovering the same problem using this stitch in a hat. Went from 60 to 48. The problem is that you need to put in a chain stitch between each 3dc, or start in the 3rd, not the 4th stitch. You can’t skip 4 then only crochet 3, it will reduce every time.Hope this helps.
