As someone who works in zoos, I must tell you Brady that no matter how much publicity you brought Grey the penguin, the situation would not have changed. Animals in zoos are rated for genetic viability, and if it is determined that an animal is more likely to produce viable offspring somewhere else, then that animal will move the the new location. Further, zoos involvement in wild animal populations is much more extensive now than it ever has been. My condolences on your loss, I know better than most how rough it is.P.S. the "meta association" Grey refers to is The Association of Zoos and Aquariums. They do lots of things and are majorly responsible for the continued quality of life for captive populations of animals.
Martin Hanson So, how do zoos choose WHICH individual animals to send to repopulate another zoo (Tbilisi in this case)? Does The Association make that decision, or can the sending zoo decide on its own? Do they rate all their individual animals for genetic viability, or is the rating on the level/scale of species? If they rate animals individually, is that the only criteria they take into account? I. e., could they have decided that CGPenguin is too valuable (even if contrary to genetic viability rating) to send it away?
Every species has a stud book, where the family trees of each individual is recorded. These records are matched up to other individuals in an effort to find the most genetically viable candidate for mating. This is done to avoid inbreeding. The fact is grey the penguin would have been moved to another zoo regardless. This may have been a few years down the line, but it would have happened. Unexpected events simply hastened the move and the unfortunate happened along the way.

It's really funny listening to these podcasts after such a long time. You are talking about how the snap election was a great move for Theresa may and how it's really a no brainer and I'm quietly giggling to myself because how massively it backfired for her.

Because otherwise Grey contemptuously retorts that he doesn't understand why Brady would ask him this question. I love Grey, but he does have an irritating tendency to shut down legitimate or interesting questions in the snottiest way he can think of.

My understanding about Everest is that it's an enormous distance from anywhere else to the base camp so you practically have to land there. Then it's a hell of a trek that lasts days to the top, with extreme weather, cold, steepness, and oxygen is a really big deal. It's not just physically hard work to the point of most people needing training to even get started let alone get anywhere near the top, but theres a sort of oxygen sickness that it lethal dangerously quickly as soon as you know your starting to get it. I've been told that most people who try the mountain just go for getting part way to the top from basecamp.
Why do they always end so abruptly?

I was thinking the same thing as Grey during the argument about the watch...if the driver checks his watch while driving but waits during the next stop to respond anyways, why not just check his phone when he stops? I was also on the same page with Grey's next point; maybe Brady was thinking that if the driver is going to do an unsafe action by checking his phone while driving, at least checking the watch is less unsafe. I.e., if he's going to check his notifications while driving, checking them on an Apple Watch is probably one of the safer ways. I could see that as being a somewhat valid reason for some people, although I don't think that alone really justifies getting the Apple Watch.
I can't believe the yogurt eating CGP Grey is lecturing us about distracted driving.
I know that if I really wanted them to read this I should email them, but if I recall correctly, on either an engineering youtube video or an episode of QI, it was mentioned that spires allow buildings to be called the tallest "structures" whereas the tallest "buildings" do have some requirements of walkable space and possibly enclosurement. There are official rulings by someone on these things.
brady i love the idea of the old timey airplane ads. i used to go to virginia beach as a kid, and i loved seeing those. at this point to me those would be nostalgic. a boat ad with videos and such would annoy me to no end tho.

Just so people know it wasn't six years between elections in the UK prior to the "Fixed-term Parliaments Act 2011" it was five by law and four as a tradition. By that I mean that Parliament had to be "renewed" every 5 years but it wasn't unheard off for a prime minister to dissolve parliament prior to that. The new act removes the power of a prime minister to dissolve parliament, and by consequence start the general election cycle, whenever they want. Now it has to go through parliament. Although this Act may not have long to live because May has stated she want's it repealed, because you know she want's as much power as she can get ...... sorry started off as impartial but didn't really make it to the end there.
Also parliament has to either call a new election by 2/3 or vote no-confidence in the goverment

I don’t remember what it’s called “high flow hives” or something like that. He lives in Northern NSW. Interesting story and they made a documentary about him and his life, family and his invention.

The length of Parliaments is set at 5 years;, unless the govt loses a confidence motion, or 2/3 of seats in the House vote for an early election. In this case Theresa May required the support of opposition MPs to hold the election.
