I may have inadvertently ruined my daily schedule with the discovery of this podcast.
Good news! Grey has another podcast called Cortex about how to be more efficient with your time!
I thought the space race was going to be someone trying to get flaggy flag in space
Tim?
flaggy flag forever
Crush the rebellion
@@someoneelsesname8182 how dare you!! :-O
It isn't?
I'm quite impressed by Brady's 1950's newsreel impression.
I watched this eclipse while instructing a backpacking course in the Pisgah forest in North Carolina. The most amazing part was hearing all of the nocturnal animals come out in the middle of the day and then suddenly going silent when the light returned.
I'm not too sure about this new RUclips layout. I'm very excited about a second HI episode released a week after another though.
You can revert back to the old layout if you go to account settings or something in the top right
I quite like it actually. Because of one thing: BUILT-IN DARK MODE!
Although, the problem is that icons made for squares look ugly. Grey's gotta make a new HI logo.
+Cygnus At first I was really mad because the change broke the plugin that I used to apply a dark mode, but now that you mentioned it...
You and me both.
2hr long episode! One week after the last! Is the sky falling?
but grey is already automated
7 days between episodes? What year is this?
2017.
thanks for letting us know :)
12017
They've already become automated.
its the far future man, get with it
Big Ben deserves all our love. We need to throw as many expert clock-repairing humans while we can.
Back in grad school some of my friends/professors did stuff with sounding rockets. Mainly to study the auroras. And one of my friends hung out at Wallops for like a month or two at one point. Cool stuff.
I was busy x-raying lightning at the time, so no rockets for me.
I have really started to enjoy listening to these podcasts while I am studying. Your voices are very calming and helps me concentrate.
On the topic of sounding rockets: IIRC, they were (originally) measuring the extent (and properties, probably) of the atmosphere, not space. The name stuck with it even as function evolved.
So, like Radio Times, the TV guide on the internet. No longer means what it meant, but kept the name.
Okay, you need to stop this. Last episode was uploaded while I was on a plane for my vacation to spain, and this was uploaded while I was on the plane on my way back. If only those episodes were released a few hours earlier, I could've enjoyed them during my flight.
I stopped listening to episodes as soon as they come out so I can stretch them out til the next one. So I haven't finished the last episode and here comes a new one! Will wonders never cease?!
You have to think about NASA and Apollo like the Lewis and Clark. SpaceX is building the "covered wagons" to send the settlers west. We live in a solar system of unexplored wonder that without private space we will simply never be able to get out and explore.
I'm a bit late to the party, but I have to say I really like your analogy.
my first visit to this channel and the best podcast the way they talk is pretty interesting
Wow! What a suprise. I didn't expect a new episode today.
konstantin fahardo I didn't expect a new episode this MONTH!
I agree about the name, about the title, because I am listening to your podcast, while I am doing other things on the pc or in my room. the name is not important, your content is. Listening to you guys has a calming effect on me 1:08:00
15:36 Interestingly Arthur C.Clarke in 1956 wrote a short story called "Venture to the Moon" in which astronauts write accounts of their trip and sell them to newspapers in the tax free zone that is space.
It's been 4 years, and I'm happy to report that not one bad thing has happened since :)
My friend and I have had the exact same idea for a podcast that came about the exact same way! Brady totally beat us to the punch. We both have been avid podcast listeners and wanted to start out own podcast. Every time we get together we pitch new ideas that sometimes are actually good but sometimes are way too much work (sort of The Worst Idea Of All Time-esque) then a few months back we came to the conclusion: what if we made a podcast about our quest to find the perfect idea for what our podcast should be about. We even made a couple unreleased episodes. Haha can't believe someone else had the same idea.
That was some sick 1950's newsreel.
WHAT A NEW ONE ALREADY. YESSSSS
Just discovered you. What have I missed all the time in my life xD
Hello internet is a great name for this show because it is general enough to not clash with what this is. What you sound like you think would be a good name would box the podcast in
I lost it at "where in space did it go".
This is the Superbowl of Podcasts
I have rather poor vision, but even so I got to see the eclipse. My glasses are on a shelf. It was special for me. I'm not going to rub it in anyone's faces, especially since it wasn't anywhere near the longest OR shortest. It just... was.
I fear this might copyright discussion might suddenly become more important
BACK TO BACK EPISODES BITCHEEEEESSS!!!!
I think the reason why I like SpaceX so much is because even though right now all they're doing is making space cheaper, the cheaper space gets the more cool things we can do in space, and that is what I'm really excited about.
I glad you started posting this on youtube, because I'm too lazy to fix my RSS feed so it didn't get buried by the other stuff on there
I totally thought it was a mistake when I got a notification for a new episode on this channel. I was like: I already clicked on it why is it notifying me AGAIN?
Love the show.
There's a link to a Twilight Book in the description of a Hello Internet video!
58:32 A few days later, the "Ologies" podcast premiered for real, by Alie Ward, coincidence?
2 so soon
Im not complaining
I think "of the Century" is one of the most common phrases used by the news media.
woo! wallops island, taking part in HI history lol
Man it came out so early!
1:48:12 "It's not inconceivable that the Queen is going to die in the next four years, right?" "You said it, not me." "We're not jinxing the Queen here, Brady, that's not how this works!"
No, but it was close 😅
I thought we just got an episode... Oh wait, Brady was probably too antsy to try his new microphone and get started on the next 200 episodes Grey has been signed up for.
No plane crash corner please, I'm actually going to listen this one on a plane later today 😥
And im wearing my nail and gear when this came out
6:50 WHAT IS THIS!? A PHOTOGRAPH FOR ANTS!?!?
Slow down guys, I haven't finished the last one yet!
the podcast version of this ep is unavailable
What do the beeps at the start mean? Do they say HI in binary or something?
could you put the podcast on Spotify?
oo space episode nice!!
I have been pondering this, the excitement about this year's solar eclipse may have been due to the great, uninterrupted distance it travelled over, considering that it travelled over a track where political conflicts or boundaries would not interrupt the flight of the measuring equipment.
Here is something I've just thought about the inevitable mining of asteroids:
Say that you are mining, for example, copper. Say that in 50 years we have depleted our copper reserves on earth by 95%, and that copper prices have gone up by 8x as a conservative estimate, most likely more. You begin mining an asteroid that you know will boost our copper reserves by 5% (so that will bring it up to 10% of 2067 reserves of copper compared to today) you build the equipment and resources required, you start mining, you extract the first extraterrestrial copper ore.
Now. What is going to be more expensive, the copper ore on earth, or the extraterrestrial copper ore?
Of course, the extraterrestrial ore will be much more expensive at first. Not only has it got the title of "the first batch of ore mined from an asteroid ever in human history", it also will be much more expensive because of the sheerly huge expected costs to make the equipment to send to the asteroid, set it up, mine the asteroid using electricity (most likely using generators, not sure solar panels would be strong enough but who knows in 50 years) and then sending the ore back safely.
These cause a huge increase in the cost of the ore at first, but obviously there is an extra supply of copper, so companies buy the ore. This temporary increased price of copper ore will drive up the price of items that require copper, say wiring for computers, etc., making their prices extortionately high for consumers and companies.
Of course, in the long run, it should get cheaper, especially since its the rule of "If theres one, there's many", the companies will expand to even more asteroids, and will find cheaper ways to deal with the logistics of sending extraterrestrial ores back to Earth, which should lower the costs. Plus there is also the depletion of earth ores which should increase extraterrestrial ore sales, simply because there is a more abundant supply and the earth ores will be ridiculously expensive.
Just had the thought about it, will be interesting to see how things go in the future.
Don't mind me I'm just waiting for 88. I hope back to the future comes up for obvious reasons
I wonder if the Tom Scott on the shielding is THE Tom Scott
Come on cgp Grey, we need you back on your own channel
What did I do to deserve a new episode this early?
You didn't do anything. We are all still at the hands of Grey and Brady.
The "Great American Eclipse" was referred to as the eclipse of the century because it is only visible to one country, which would be nothing if not for the shear size of the country it travels across. This is one of the big 5 countries after all it was going across.
Totality was only visible in salty water or along a few thousand miles of land all in a single country. That is why they referred to it as the eclipse of the century for that one metric alone because of course if we can find a metric to define it as such we will.
Listen to Grey's talking about Australia, I'm kinda afraid that Grey might get himself mauled by giant flying spiders the moment he visit Australia.
1:06:45 Painkiller Already is at episode 350, and nobody on the show has played call of duty in years (where the name came from)
1:30:36
man grey, that was savage
Oh god he's said it... hello internet has a history of predicting the future and grey said "if the queen dies"
Wait... this is the eclispe episode? I thought youtube was half a year behind...
37 seconds in is great
"queen dies in the next four years." 5 months left
I also love how Americans call all tournaments World Championships, while they are the only country attending
Well, in fairness, if it's something like American Football, since other countries don't really participate, the winner IS the world champion.
Prince Phillip died today (gosh Grey you jinxed it)... Did they ring the bell? How is construction going on Big Ben?
I thought this said "Podcast of the Culinary" and I got super excited for nothing. (I like to bake)
Grey has a nice recipe for sloppy burger buns
I want that moon globe
Episode 80 is missing on the playlist
Indeed, it is on the channel too, but I'm having trouble communicating to them that it isn't on the youtube playlist 'Hello Internet in Chronological Order' in case they what it complete.
Ok, so we're synchronized between the podcast feed and the release of the RUclips video. But where the hell is the Reddit discussion?
47:25 yea america, they have this way about things. So true :D
Four years to change a bell is ridiculous. I don't have strong feelings about Big Ben itself one way or another, but from a logistics perspective, that length of time seems completely excessive for the breadth of the operation. But hey...what if they fly the old bell into space, and then it can become a part of both UK history AND space history?
* violently Coughs out water out of mouth*
When was this recorded and did you know the US president, who will remain unnamed, would be tweeting US military policy?
1:21:11 Grey uses the word "obviate" he has some impressive vocabulary....
The first story in a podcast is about an image, wow.
😲😲😲😲 another podcast?!?
CemLaj!
Oh wow uploaded 40mins ago?! OK sticking with RUclips xD
Wait... on mobile... OK downloaded on my podcast app
@50:00 Grey doesn't want to be Thoreau.
0:34 unfortunately not 😢
Holy SHIT thank you ♥️♥️♥️
Solar eclipse is next month , April 8th 2024❤🎉
I feel like Brady and Grey would like SpaceX a lot more if they didn't forget SpaceX is trying to colonize Mars
I had a problem with a video, from a reasonably large channel. They had clips from movies, I think it was a top ten list. My issue was they showed a clip from a rated R film where someone was shot in the head and there was blood splatter on the wall behind them, and you saw the bullet hole in their head when it was made. I reported the video several times over a few months, but the video is still there, unchanged, it doesn't even require you to log in to see it. Even to this day it is the best example I have seen of the system failing us. How many kids could watch that video, how many advertisements have shown on a bloody video like that. Or am I just a prude and graphic murder is no longer considered offensive. Well, I was eating at the time and it made me feel sick. They accuse clean videos of filth, and they let filth just sit there, forever.
I love how brit nature comes out of Brady so he can barely even say "queen is going to die" :D
Brown paper is banned on youtube now XD 1:30:00
im still pretty sure the manual review means you are manually requesting the video is reviewed.
meaning the initial review was automatic
Wait, when did NASA went to Mars?!?? I must have lost something
Andrea Boroni weve sent a few things to mars. No manned flights though.
yaaaaaaas! *-*
GREY AND BRADY - in your first episode, the thumbnail was a single line, which is a 1, but also the symbol for power throughput - like turning something on! So, in your last episode, you should make it episode 0, to symbolize turning the series off!
Or don't that's fine
About the "banana republic" episode being flagged my guess would be it's about the title itself. I don't how it sounds in English but in French, "république bananière" is used to defined under-developed countries in a pretty rude way, racist even from the PoV of some. I myself raised an eyebrow reading it, but again I get no idea how it turns to sound in English.
We have to be worried about Mayan2K!!
Someone could make a 'grey laugh' compilation like 18:00
I think the main numberfile didn't get hit because there are more people watching, and likely the algorithm takes into account, out of the total amount of views, how many dislikes/flags there are. So maybe since there are less views on your second channel, the ratio of flags to total of people who didn't complain is different? Idk, I'm not a math person :p
I am becoming more and more of the opinion that "copyright" should literally mean that you cant copy and paste anything from any source if you are not the copyright holder. However, a picture from a video is acceptable if you are criticizing it, but actual video footage, no. If you went to a movie theater with a camera and said "no copyright infringement intended, I am just going to upload it to RUclips and talk about it." Would anyone let that happen? You don't own the footage, keep your hands off.
I love your content but the length of those ads is kind of getting crazy...
This is a somewhat grim thought, but do you think an astronaut's organs would be also be worth more on the black market, because it had been in space?
You were talking about mundane items suddenly being worth thousands or tens of thousands of dollars because they went into space. I mean, consider the appeal that your new heart had been to the moon.
I've actually caught up... This feels weird
How was "The God of Copyright" not the name of this episode....?
