In late December 2001, I had an order to deliver a washer and dryer to a Sue Anthony in Glendora, California. As I pull up to the house, I noticed a man standing on a grassy knoll waiting for me. As I got closer, I recognized him from being the bass player for Van Halen. I got out of the truck and started freaking out. He was taken aback by my antics, and he told me to calm down. I said you don’t understand that I saw you at The Fabulous Forum on June 20, 1981 on your birthday. I said it was the greatest concert I’ve ever seen. After I installed his washer and dryer, he apologized for not going to the bank to get cash to give me a tip. I said I don’t need a monetary tip, but could I get an autographed picture? An autographed picture would last my lifetime. He said absolutely. He was and is one of the nicest people I have ever met.
It's strange that Michael's wife would order something under the name "Anthony", as that's Michael's middle name and stage name. I would think "Sue" would place an order under Sue Sobolewski, his and her legal last name.
I can't find it now but I recall some very old film footage of Ann and Nancy Wilson from Heart as well as someone else like maybe Peter Frampton or someone from Journey maybe...and anyway they were on camera and being interviewed backstage from one of those massive outdoor summer stadium shows from the late 70s. They were talking about this "new band" Van Halen and they were saying how great they are except that they were all assholes "...except their bass player" HA!
This is why Sammy called out EVH , in a video when he was alive . For the way Michael was treated . He never said anything bad about the VH brothers . Yet they still cut him off and hated him just because he was Sammy's friend . Sammy was right to stick up for him.
Mike is a quality human and fantastic musician. He was just as important to Van Halen's sound as anyone in that one of a kind group. Sickening what was done to him, i love Ed's playing and history, its truly his responsibility what transpired with Mikey.

Any self respecting musician can see that Michael Anthony was by far one the most tactical bass players and band member in either era of VH! He was the glue that held it all together and put the signature vocal style and sound that made them unique! Even Wolfgang had to undertake every aspect of those responsibilities that role was required to replicate the VH sound! The difference is that Mikey did it with a humble heart! That’s why the fans will always love and respect him! And that’s why Sammy and him became brothers! Trust me it could’ve never lifted off the ground without him…
DLR is an incredible human being. He has devoted his life to learning different things. Cabaret etc. He spent 5 years working as an EMT. He moved to Japan to learn calligraphy. He’s a renaissance man

I think things would be going smoother for D.L.R. if EVH had lived longer as Ed. seemed to have a way at appeasing Dave's gigantic ego, he lashes out when he's not stroked constantly.
Saw VH with Roth 5 times born and raise in LA County it was easy. Saw em with Sam 3. Roth on the first 4 albums was all time epic you'll never top that. Sammy or anyone else for that matter replacing Roth will always take back seat. Sam did a phenomenal job. The difference between Roth and Sammy is live. Live Roth yes his cute outfits gymnastic Circus karate chops and doing the splits act was top notch. But anyone who show up and doesn't know his parts or "I forgot the phucking words" every other song" well, as a young man I was extremely disappointed. Way too much to list. Sammy live nailed pretty much 99.999% of the songs and live Sammy was one of thee best singers I've ever seen. Roth sucked live except the first out of 5 times I saw them. I say all that because Roth is playing games, the last 20 yrs the guy can't pull it off live and that's why you have all this drama. Hey we all have a shelf life. The fact that Sammy has been out there playing / singing the last 2 dozen years pretty much says it all. Roth's shelf life ended 2 dozen years ago. Live the guy can't cut it, not a knock, but the truth; and that's why all the avoiding and no tribute to EVH. Sorry long winded, lol and I have a ton more to say... Peace
I saw Van Halen six times in my life. Including that epic ground shaking show at the Us Festival. If there was no Roth, there’s no great Van Halen shows. Theres been thousands upon thousands of great shredder guitarists on The Strip. I grew up down there. Theres only been one David Lee Roth. Axl was the closest to him. Without Roth, Van Halen was just another band with a great guitarist. Bring the hate, I’m here for all of it. 🤘

First and foremost. Van Halen died with Eddie. We may have different compilations playing their classic songs. But it's not Van Halen mind you. Neither official or unofficial. Joe Satriani is great, but he sure as hell ain't no Eddie. There was only one Eddie Van Halen! For my personal preference, the real Van Halen will always be with David up front, but since Ed is dead (hate that rhyme) that is a moot point. There are some good stuff from the Hagar periods, but the real Van Halen are the first 6 albums, at least to me. Besides that, I wonder how Alex is doing these days..?

For my personal preference, the real Van Halen will always be with David up front, but since Ed is dead (hate that rhyme) that is a moot point.

David Lee Roth and Eddie Van Halen wrote the songs for Van Halen. That's a fact. Michael Anthony should thank his lucky stars he even have the opportunity to be in this band. Michael Anthony was the glue that held Van Halen together during the Roth and Hagar eras! When he left, the magic was gone! Although, Wolfgang Van Halen did a respectable job on "A Different Kind of Truth" and "Tokyo Dome-Live", Mike's absence could be clearly felt in a creative sense! Even today, he is a way better singer than Diamond Dave who has become a worn out she'll of his former self! Go Mikey!!
