- This is by far the heaviest metal song I've heard from Nightwish! The metal mixed with the guitar chugging was already so sick but then you add in that symphonic backing track and it's just an absolute masterpiece!

Ann was the mother of the Nightwish Army, and this was her favorite song - unfortunately she is no longer with us. Ann always welcomed new reactors with kind words, info and background. Gabriel has taken the torch, and bringing her work to the reactors nowadays - and with the same positive attitude as Ann. Ann and Gabriel are the exceptional Ambassadors of the Nightwish Army.
The song is based on a Walt Whitman poem, and there is an extended version with the poem added at the end,dedicated to Ann.
This is sad , may she rest in peace.

Ann was a big Nightwish Fan.
And every new person who listened to NW, she went through a little chat.
And gave them some info about NW.
This was her favorite song.
And this song belongs to her.
I like very much that Gabriel have continue Ann s work.... so her heritage is still here.
Floor is making those faces when she sings "Smiling like a clown until the show has come to an end", because she's singing about herself there.
The first time she's even pointing to herself.
I would be smiling like a clown too, if my dream was coming true, right there and then.
You often don't realise true happiness in that moment, it reveals itself looking back.
Floor knew magic was happening and that this was a happiness moment she would carry with her for the rest of her life.
Also, the fan has another purpose, to keep Floor cool and her make up intact.
It's hot under those lights, she's wearing leather and singing at that level is like running a marathon.
Just look at Tuomas and Emppu.

I have a completely opposite view on this song:
The song is about suffering right in front of everyone. You smile like clown (a fool) in this awkward moment of shame and cannot wait until this (sh*t)show has come to an end so you can safely crawl into hiding. There is nothing positive about that situation.
Anette put up that same smile for a long time. She was the subject of this song for years. Compared to Tarja and the rest of the band she was not able to perform life with the same quality. More than once she was in front booing audiences and mean people that were yelling it is was good thing she lost custody of her child. This made he even more insecure, resulting in even worse performances. There are multiple video's were Anette left the stage crying.
Such a venomous audience...a period for which all NW-fans should all feel ashamed and should NEVER happen again.
I'm not a fan of of Anette, she just does not grab me in the way Floor and Tarja do, but we must all respect her as a person.

Nightwish live is spectacular, every concert. Gabriel’s list includes songs from multiple post 2012 shows with Floor, and every song is gold. Fell in love with Nightwish 3 years ago, and saw them live in May 2022, and they were truly otherworldly!!
Nice reaction! The lead guitarist is Emppu (Em-poo). He has been with them from the start as a founding member and is still with them.
Great reaction. Song is inspired by Walt Whitman poem of the same name. Tuomas is a huge fan of his writing. The studio version includes an extended spoke word section at the end of poem written by Tuomas in honor of Walt Whitman (very much n the style of Whitman's compositions). There is a fan made video in tribute to Ann Waychoff on her passing which takes the live performance from Wacken and the adds on the spoken word section from the album with the lyrics. Other have explained who Ann was and why she holds special place in the hearts of all Nightwish fans. RIP Ann 🕯🕯🕯.

I think for this one, it’s also worth listening to the album version. It has the poems projected on the screen behind as the ending. I find them strangely moving.

You're absolutely right bro. Floor's and Marko's voices work so well together. It's a beautiful phenomenon. It is truly sad that Marko's no longer with Nightwish. Hopefully the new bassist, Jukka (not the same dude that's on the drums in this video, he's no longer part of the band, he left after the 2013 tour) will have a voice that compliments Floor's.

The line where Floor makes that face is “all that great heart lying still in silent suffering, smiling like a clown until the show has come to an end”. Much like the lyric’s suggest, she’s deliberately putting on a grotesque parody of a smile that doesn’t mock the lyrics, but rather mocks the practice of false fronted positivity when it’s better to embrace your true emotions and feelings and confront them headlong.

@@tylrreacts you will find that Floor is a master of using her face to tell the story of the song. She also alters the tone of her voice alot. In this song there is a pssage saying “still give my everthing to love you more” and when she sings that her voice becimes bery sweet and tender, amost like a mother talking to her child.
This is one of my absolute favorites! The whole song is based on a Walt Whitman poem that is hauntingly beautiful.
And the song is a perfect interpretation of it. I LOVE Tuomases writing in general, but this one is exquisite!
And the pyro is always insane during a Nightwish show. I went to see them in Amsterdam last November and I felt the heat from
the flames even though I was up in the balcony far back in the venue. Insane!
Floor is great at dramatising the lyrics; just one of the excellent elements to her performance. Also, let's hear it for that girl in the audience at the end blowing a kiss to camera.

Tarja and Marko are opposits in "Phantom...", thats why i still like that version becouse of the harsh vocals of Marco,but with Floor and Marko,for me, it sounds more like a unity than a opposit and i like that better.

Guitar player's Name is Emppu Vuorinen. We say every letter in Finland, so like E-M-P-PU. But we do give slack if you say it like Eempuu
It's my understanding that Floor has the fan on the floor to keep her cool which avoids the make-up getting messed up during the gig. Plus it makes her look even cooler as a bonus.

Ann Waychoff was known by many as the Nightwish Mom. She would give comments to people who reacted to Nightwish videos to try and help the reactors understand and she would tirelessly exchange comments with people who wanted to know more. There is either the album version or a fan made "extended version" with Wacken followed by a lyric video.
"Dark" metal is a strange thing to call "Song of Myself." Sure, it has darkness, but the music itself isn't really dark. It reflects the themes of Walt Whitman's epic 52-section poem of the same name, while expanding on them and in some cases responding. In the background, on the video display, line by line, a poem is displayed, the same poem that was read directly after the song, but within the same track on the studio recording.
It's an incredible experience all the way through. but what a song.
10:45 I don't think they change band members that often. All the changes I'm aware of:
(1) Sami Vänskä getting replaced by Marco in 2001
(2) Tarja Turunen getting fired in 2005
(3) Anette taking lead singer role in 2007
(4) Anette getting replaced by Floor in 2012 and Troy joining the band as permanent member
(5) Kai Hahto replacing Jukka in drums in 2014 (and having permanent member status in 2019)
(6) Marco leaving the band in 2021
(7) Jukka Koskinen replacing Marco in 2022 (bassist only, not singing at least yet)
So basically 3 lead singers, the bassist has been replaced twice and drummer once between the years 1996-2023.
And the new bassist, also called Jukka but can't remember his last name.

greetings and love from Germany....well, i disagree with the designation ´Dark Metal´...Dark metal is a term often used for the music of metal bands in the grey area between gothic metal, black metal and death metal.
The term is often used to describe "dark or suicidal sounding bands that mainly mix doom metal with black metal". These artists combine screaming and faster passages with the music of death or black doom. The satanic superstructure of Black Metal is obsolete. And that doesn't apply to Nightwish, i think.....however, a great react video as always, buddy.....Your happiness is really contagious, my friend...stay safe and have a peaceful day....

It is not really DARK metal. It just has a darker feel to the vibe of this song. Inspired by the famous Walt Whitman poem of the same name from 1855.

We all miss Marko's amazing musicianship, vocals, and stage presence. You will find out they still are an amazing band. Troy adds his voice and does a damn good job backing up Floor. However, many song will no longer be in the set list going forward. Don't worry they have lots of great songs to play live.
In 2013 there were only 3 original members left Tuomas (Keyboards) , Jukka (Drummer) replaced by his friend Kai Hahto in 2014 due to his long time suffering from Insomnia & migranes still with band in management , Emppu(Guitar)
Even Marco was a replacement by that time.

I'm not sure the fan is realy here for hair effect, it's more a side effect. When I think about it, the amount of energy she have to deliver bring sweat, and sweat + heavy scene makeup can become ugly very fast. :)
It's not funny to be honest if you know the lyrics...Floor imitates the clown till the show has come to an end (life) These lyrics are extremely dark. This song means so much to me, about my broken life. I feel like that clown . The lyrics are extremely important when you listen nW songs. The music makes total sence than. There is NO such thing as "darkmetal" All Trash is not dark, they can have darker songs. Doom you mean?
