    A lot of his incredible work and relentless dedication to acting, film and writing come as a result from the incredible pain from his relationship with his father. My heart was heavy when watching his struggle and high dysfunction from his father. Out of and from his great pain from his father came great filmmaking. His suffering as a child was not wasted. He stewarded his pain well to great entertainment for us. Sly needs to do a raw film regarding father son relationships. It’s in him he just doesn’t know it yet!!! Hope he does one

    I can still remember seeing "Rocky" at the cinema for the first time. I was 16 or 17 yrs old and I just couldn't believe what I was seeing. I don't think I have ever experienced such a visceral reaction to a movie as "Rocky". I loved the movie so much, I would walk out of one session, buy another ticket for the next session and walk back in and watch it all over again. I've lost count of how many times I've seen it. About a year ago a cinema in my area was playing a run of movies from the 70's upwards and I took two of my adult kids with me to see "Rocky" the way it was meant to be seen. On the big screen. A critic at the time of its release described seeing "Rocky" in the theatre as "akin to a religious experience". And he was right. Many years later my eldest daughter and her husband went to see "Creed" at the cinema while I babysat. They came back to my place and my daughter came up to me and said "Mum, I get it. I finally get it. I just smiled.

      @221BBakerStreet 10 месяцев назад

      @@manuelorozco7760 I'm so sorry, it was meant as a joke. It was a reference to a line in an old 1932 movie called "Freaks". A beautiful trapeze artist gets a job at a circus/freak show. She finds out that one of the dwarfs had a lot of money, so she sucked him in to marrying her while at the same time carrying on an affair with the "Strong Man". The other freaks in the circus find out and decide to get revenge by turning her into a freak as well. When she's finally revealed at the end of the movie, all the freaks look at her and start chanting in this really creepy monotone, "One.. of.. us.. One..of.. us...
      It's generally used to describe a situation where a person who is unfamiliar with something, finally gets to see things differently and so it's expected that that person will join everyone else. The rest of the group then start teasing him by saying "one of us"...one of us". There's an episode of "Big Bang Theory" where Howard says it to Sheldon for some reason. Also, just as a matter of interest, the movie "Freaks" was banned when it was first released because they used REAL "freaks" in the movie. There were two pinheads, a man who was just a torso, a bearded lady etc. People who saw it were horrified. It's almost impossible to find it now.

      For me, the biggest snub from the Academy Awards was for his role as the partially deaf, overweight Sheriff "Freddy Heflin" in the movie "Cop Land". In case you haven't seen it, he was the Sheriff of an area in New Jersey who really idolised all the cops who worked big cases in New York, most of whom lived in the area where he was the Sheriff. He didn't get a chance to work in New York because of his poor hearing. The other cops though never treated him with any respect. They kind of patronised him and mocked him behind his back. But gradually Freddy comes to learn that all the cops he thought he admired and looked up to, were actually all corrupt and may have been involved in a murder and a cover-up. Freddy knows he has to step up and investigate. He inevitably finds the evidence he needs but by then the cops know Freddy is on to them and so come together to get rid of Freddie. But they MASSIVELY underestimated Freddy's determination to make things right. The thing is though, Stallone could have gone full Rambo on these cops if he wanted to but instead, he stayed true to the character. He lumbered around, looked a bit awkward holding his weapon, was straining to hear things going on because he was deaf etc. But oh my Lord...the final confrontation at the end between Freddy and the cops, which was basically just an old fashioned shoot out, was one of the best gun fight scenes I've seen in modern film in my humble opinion. Gave me "Magnificent Seven" vibes. Stallone was AMAZING as Freddie. He held his own against actors like Robert DeNero, Ray Liotta and Michael Rapaport. HE SHOULD HAVE WON AN OSCAR PEOPLE!!!

      @@221BBakerStreet seen it multiple times. It’s really great. I agree with everything you’ve said. As a life long fan of Sly this is what I have learnt. A LOT of people don’t like him. They think he is like Rocky from the first movie. That he’s stupid and can’t articulate himself well, but he’s made countless other movies where he speaks just fine. His acting was so good in Rocky they actually think that’s who he is, so when people say he can’t act it pisses me off to no end because it’s not based on objective relay. It’s subjective opinion from people who simply don’t like him.
      He’s a very macho, masculine guy, has a really deep voice and clearly has a set of principles he believes in with the roles he takes and the way he’s lived his life in regards to health and nutrition, training etc.
      He obviously runs people the wrong way because a lot of people still hold the believe you can’t have muscle and be intelligent. Not only is he in shape, he’s extremely intelligent and well spoken.
      The dude is super talented, writes, directed, acts, produces. Many people who have worked with him say he is so knowledgeable about many different topics.
      I’ve even read comments by people claiming to be “fans” but then the next sentence saying he can’t act. wtf?
      He has a lot of prestigious awards given to him by people who clearly think he’s very good at what he does.
      Sure, Johnny Depp is a great actor, lots of great actors. But most people cannot and will not do what he has done. Most people would not willingly subject themselves to that level of danger or training.
      People just hate because they can. I’m sure there are many 40 to 50 years old men who are fat, out of shape or skinny and never been the gym once in there life or lifted a weight that hate everything he represents.
      They are too stupid to realise underneath the exterior is a lot of intelligence.
      I think because of his voice, the way he looks and his body it makes a lot of people feel insecure.

      @@axelstone3131 I also agree with everything you said. I grew up around the same time when he was being criticised as a "one hit wonder" and his movies would always get a bad review. Some probably deserved it, "Stop or my Mom Will Shoot" is a good example. But even at a young age I predicted that he would achieve fame doing niche films like "Rambo", "Cliffhanger" and "Demolition Man" (action movies basically) until he got to an age where it just wasn't feasible to keep doing those kinds of movies. It'd be then that he'd lose his ego, and fully commit to playing really interesting "characters" with a story to tell. I believe he's got his best work ahead of him to be honest. Btw, have you ever seen the original version of "Get Carter"?

    People who didn't live through it, will never know what it was like to hear those opening horns of the Rocky theme. It was EVERYWHERE. When that movie came out, for YEARS people were humming that tune and screaming "Adrienne!" everywhere you went. And then...Mr. T! The Mr. T era, jeez. And then Rambo! It was just a wild time.
    And if you saw him with "Fonzi" in Lords of Flatbush, or had seen DeathRace 2000, you knew his face--so to watch this guy explode was wild. Even as a little guy, I could see it was not normal. Years later, as I came to understand he had WRITTEN so much-my mind was blown, and I respected the guy. And then to breath new life into an aging action star with the Expendables, was also a surprise. You just gotta respect him. So it's a BUMMER to get old, but when you look at what spot in time you lived through, it's not so bad.
