This video opened my eyes that shipping isn’t as bad and scary as I thought.
It's really not. You might make a mistake or two along the way. I know I have...more than a few. But, in the end, shipping can absolutely be mastered. You've got this!
@@danidilay5430 same

Most helpful video I’ve found so far. I just got an assortment of boxes, my scale, a box resizer tool and have about 30 items drafted ready to go minus inputting shipping because I’m so lost on what to put. This helped me a lot! I might just get those drafts published soon. Thank you
Love the 'hand holding' you do for us!! So much appreciation!!!

Great video! I have been searching for a Ebay shipping video that shows how to set up formatting of shipping options with Ebay. This seems right up your alley! There has to be easier to set up than what I have done. For example I would love the drop down menu of shipping options to be customized for my most common choices without have to spend so much time searching for it.
I need to make that video. You couldn't make custom shipping policies when I made this one. But you can now.
Always be prepared to ship items. One of my biggest weaknesses was shipping when I did ebay. It bit me a few times. Make sure you have boxes, filler, tape, envelopes etc. etc. and you will be good!
Very true!
Or just take it into the local po and they will have everything ready to go..
@ZestySoul Its 10x more expensive to do it that way. I buy shipping supplies in bulk. So my shipping cost overall is much lower
I am new to Ebay and I sure appreciate you sharing your wisdom.
Thank you so much
Thanks so much for this video. I’m just starting out selling on EBay and the shipping is the hardest part by far for me. Your videos really help! Please keep ‘em coming! 😁👍

I truly appreciate the kind words. 😀
One thing the local post office workers told me is that for an item to go as a "package" as opposed to a "letter" was the 3/4-inch thickness. I sell a lot of flat items like collectible magazines, comic books, etc, that often go in envelopes. They advised me to insert a couple pieces of cardboard to make it over 3/4 inch thick without adding much weight.
Interesting tidbit that I did not know. THANKS!
As a Postal Employee I can confirm this. The reason it matters is I believe tracking for a flat (magazine)/letter is a fixed rate; usually around $8-$9, as it's not based on weight but putting tracking on something that doesn't normally come with tracking. So making it thicker to qualify it as a package could reduce shipping costs. This is my understanding as a Carrier, a Clerk would be able to give you a more specific on prices for a letter/flat. To my understanding the only options for tracking on letters/flats is Certified which needs a signature for $8 or a small envelope that has a tracking number on it and you put your letter in the envelope, which costs around $9.
Ha! Now my wife can "Eat My Shorts Man" 🤣😂 She gripped at me and said I was a hoarder for keeping foam padding😊
But WHY do you want to change your letter into a "package "?? What is the purpose of it?!?
@@madmax8620 tracking for a letter is more expensive. You’re paying a flat rate of $8-$9 as a letter for tracking even if it’s going down the street. Making it a package can make it cheaper to ship by almost half the price.

There is a RUclips video on using the flat rate envelopes for many 1 lb plus clothing. Folding and creasing to make kind of a box. I've actually fit an XL Orvis sweatshirt in one. Even the legal size envelope would have saved about 5 bucks on the Carhartt jacket.
I've seen the videos. I've even used the envelopes a bit. They are absolutely an option. I haven't had success getting jackets that size in them without breaking them. I know that others can.
This video is so helpful! Answered all my questions, thank you 💕

Thank you for your videos! Its been a long time since I've sold on Ebay and you’ve given me the incentive to start again. The shipping looks easier than it use to be since you can go thru eBay . Found your instructions are easy to follow and understand .
I appreciate that. I hope you find some of it helpful and encouraging.
I've been reselling about a year now. Learning how shipping works was one of those things that really improved my ability to make money. One of my best thrift store scores was a thermal label printer that looked like it'd never been used, still in the original box and with all the cords still sealed in their little baggies.
The first time I came across a thermal printer in the wild....I DIDN'T EVEN KNOW WHAT IT WAS. lol I couldn't imagine why any one would need one. Little did I know...
Great find...value $50 to $100 or more depending on the brand...
How did you get that colored logo on your label to print.?
@@dorisshanks7295 The colored logo is only on the video. I was covering up the buyer's address. 🙂
Your video was so informative. Shipping has me intimidated and has held me back from making my first listing. I believe I understand the process better, and am ready to give it a try🤞🏻
Shipping definitely is the most intimidating part of all of this. But it gets better after you ship the very first one. You'll learn more from that than you could a hundred videos

Hi Scot, I love your videos! I find them so helpful, I used to sell clothes on eBay years ago, and I'm just now starting to sell again. I know that the platform has changed quite a bit since I was on it last. Im having trouble calculating shipping in my new listings. Do you have any videos on how to do that?? thanks so much, Denni :)
I've touched on it, but the shipping costs change so rapidly that it's tough to be specific AND accurate. If you're struggling, focus on getting accurate weights and measurements and then use calculated shipping.
@@TheChaChingKing ok, ill try that. thanks
Hi Scot! I know you posted this forever ago - but I am TRYING to get started and going back finding helpful videos that address my weak points. Hoping it will actually happen in my lifetime!! You canNOT imagine how helpful this video is for me - as well as all of your videos. I just HAVE TO see a step by step - then I'm good to go. You are the best!! Thank you to the moon and back. Thanks for sharing. Your videos are always helpful and clear. Educational content is so important 👏
High praise for me and I appreciate it. I really want the videos to help someone.
Ive watched this video 3x and will probably watch it another 3. Its very helpful. My main issue right now and choosing the price for shipping on my listings. I saw you last video where you talk about different weights and pricing, but how do you know how much its going to weigh ahead of time, if you dont know which box you are using. Also, do the flat rate boxes always have the same price for their assigned size? Thank you Scot for all the help. Because of your channel, I am actually taking the plunge of starting my resale journey.
You are so kind! I truly appreciate it. I know a lot of the weights just from experience. But you can always weigh the item and add some for the box and packing. It won't be exact, but it will probably be very close. There are two types of flat rate USPS boxes. The true flat rate ones, like the padded flat rate and the medium flat rate, have a specific charge regardless of where they are going or how much they weigh. The Regional Rate A & B boxes charge 2 pounds and 5 pounds respectively. So, they vary some depending on where they are going. So, if you have an item under 15 pounds that fits in a Regional Rate A box, it'll get charged at the 2 pound rate. And, above all else, it WILL get easier with more experience. Don't be afraid to make a mistake. I still make mistakes. But I'm smarter with every one.
@@TheChaChingKing I mean every word, your videos are extremely helpful.
@@drummingducks22 Thank you so much
@@TheChaChingKing I am shipping fine jewelry and want my business name removed for security reasons. I edited the Shipping from Address to just my name, but the business name still shows on the shipping label. Do you or anyone on here know how to remove it? Thanks.
@TheChaChingKing wow... that truly made absolutely NO sense... 2lb , 5lb, 15lb=2lb ?? What? There is so much unexplained there and I wish I could understand it...
My husband and I are planning to start selling on eBay. We already have a lot of items to sell. I'm going through your videos and I feel a lot less intimidated. Thank you for sharing your vast knowledge with this newb! Your videos are amazing!
You can do it! eBay has been an absolutely incredible supplementary income for us. I hope it will be for you as well.
You are so helpful! Thank you. I have been a thrift shopper since I was 18. I am now 70, and starting to think about reselling my collections. My niche is vintage pottery, glass, artwork, lamps, many of which are fragile. I'm dreading the shipping step because of this. I know I have to get it together eventually. All your tips are appreciated, indeed!
You can do it! The trick to shipping odd stuff is to have your packaging worked out beforehand and have it on hand. My son sells a lot of vintage tech and he has boxes that work perfectly. Shipping an 8 pounds IBM Model M keyboard isn't much harder than shipping a t-shirt when you have everything here.
Thank you that was great info looking forward to see my next video as you mentioned for sitting up account ups supplies.
You're the best.
Hey Scott, I have to say you create great learning videos. So helpful! Question - when creating your shipping fee, how do you build that price? My items are? Or do you truly just guess and learn as you go? This is the part of the process that keeps boggling my mind? Thank you for any help!!!
I have 2 videos that talk about shipping. The first one covers some of the costs more in depth. But, keeping it short, if it's under 8 ounces, I ship it first class for about $4.99. Between 8 ounces and 16 ounces, I charge $5.99. If it's over a pound but fits in a USPS padded flat rate envelope, I charge $8.99. If it doesn't fit in the padded flat rate, I usually aim for the Regional Rate A box and charge $11.99.
I'm not trying to get them exact, just close enough to be fair. Does that help?
Thanks so much for the kind words!!!
I too have struggled with this for the past YEAR!! Why it has to be so complicated I don’t know. But I’m finally getting it after watching great teaching videos like this one!
@@janetlandry-lucey5386 I really appreciate that. More than anything, I want the videos to be helpful. And I'm not done trying to come up with a video that simplifies the process as much as possible. As I think of ways to present that, I'll put out more content on this topic.
Hey Scott, thank you for all your great info. Question though, what is a regional A box for? How do you use it? I've always seen it but never knew anything about it so I never considered it. Help!!
It ships at a flat rate based on distance instead of weight. I think it is the 2 pound rate regardless of how much it weighs. So, if I had something that weighed 7 pounds shipping to Hawaii and it would fit in the Regional Rate A box, it would be far cheaper than just shipping in at the regular weight. Does that make sense? It's not always cheaper, but really can be.
@@TheChaChingKing Yes that makes sense! Thank you so much for clarifying.
Great video. Thank you Scott!
Thank you for watching.
I'm just starting to sell on Ebay, and researching the best and quick method to be able to dispatch items, I found your video very useful! Thank you, you have a new subscriber! :-)
I really appreciate that. Thank you.
Just shipped my first fragile sale and used alot of bubble wrap and stuffed extra paper around it. Took me a while to figure out how to print my shipping label but finally got it and taped onto box and took to post office. I think the thermal label maker is a great idea and tool. Will invest in on next. Thank you. Plan to look back at all your videos to learn more.
If you find something I haven't covered, or haven't covered well enough, don't hesitate to let me know. Congrats on the sale! The process get easier with each cha-ching!
@@TheChaChingKingcan you show the best way to ship fragile items?
Hi Scot! Thank you for the video. At what point do you decide to refund shipping overcharge to the customer? I've heard people say if there is a $10 difference but I've refunded a customer for $5 before. I never want anyone to think I'm trying to make my "fortune" off overcharging for shipping. Thanks!
For me, it's more about the percentage to the overall sale. Like the example in the video. The overcharge was close to 5% of the overall sale. If it had been a $1,200 item, I probably wouldn't have refunded anything if the overcharge was $6.
Thank you for your shipping video. I have learned so much from your videos! You are my favorite. ❤
I'm just starting, your videos are a Godsend!
I want these videos to be helpful. So, your words are truly encouraging to me. Thank you.
Hey Scott! I've been noticing that you and other resellers are not printing out packing labels. Is there a particular reason why you chose not to place one in your packages? (Still learning what is needed and what isn't!) Thanks~Wendy, fellow Texas Reseller
Good observation! I have never included a packing label unless I've been asked to. One of the worst reasons in the world to do, or not do, something is because that's what you've always done. Lol. But it isn't the only reason. While it might eventually happen, it has never caused an issue for me. Despite thousands of sales, it's just never come up. So, I don't include a packing slip.
And thank you for the kind words!
@@TheChaChingKing I place a packing slip in every package, I will also write a "Thank You" note on the slip and sign it as well...takes a little more time but I find buyers really like getting a written note of thanks. The shipping slip also serves as a insurance if the package ever become damaged in the mail (has never happened) so that the shipping service knows who shipped it and where it was going..
I'm wondering if I misinterpreted something. With the Carhartt jacket, you made a change with the box size and adjusted the shipping weight, correct? The larger box was cheaper than the smaller one or did I really misunderstand this example? :) Thank you! ~Jules
I was wondering the same thing...
I probably just wasn't clear. It just would not fit in the smaller box. So, I cut out all of that trying to keep the length of the video watchable. But, it just wouldn't go in the smaller box, at all. The bigger box seemed cheaper because it weighed one pound less than my estimate.
@@TheChaChingKing Next question: When you create a listing, are you entering shipping weight for a more accurate amount or just guesstimating at the approximate cost?
Most of the time, we know the shipping weight just from experience. The rest we make an educated guess. For example, i know if an item fits in my 12x9 ziplock, it will fit in either my poly mailer or the priority padddd flat rate. So, ultimately, on those items i only need to know if it's under or over a pound. If I really can't estimate it, I weigh it.
I tried answering it below. I think it's just a matter of a poor edit on my part. I think because I knew what I was doing that I just didn't pick up on the inconsistent flow of information
You have a great way of explaining things. I've been watching videos about combining postage and do not understand it. I'd love to learn more. Thanks
I will try to put together a short tutorial on combining shipping as soon as I get an order that needs it.
I really appreciate the kind words

eBay is the worst-selling platform for customer support for the seller. All the customer's agents are from India, the auto eBay system is garbage... I don't recommend it at all, now they have increased the fee starting at 13%, and Facebook is 5%.
I could not disagree more. I've had great customer support from eBay. I've tried Facebook marketplace and it just didn't work for me. But if it's working for you, awesome. I hope you have continued success with it.
What platforms do you recommend for selling. I know a lot of people that have bad issues with seller support with eBay

THANKS! I'd love to do some thrifting in the UK someday.
You just became my favorite Ebay RUclips person. Thanks so much and thanks for making it interesting and EASY!.
I really appreciate the kind words. RUclips has been a lot of work, but I've enjoyed feeling like I'm able to help a little bit.
Finally! someone who's really a pro and also honest! Thank you ChaChingKing!
I'm still learning every day, but trying to share anything others might find helpful. I truly appreciate the comment. 🙂

Appreciate that! I really want them to be helpful and encouraging.
Omg..thank you so much for the insight about this , I'm a little scared about all of this but I'm excited to get started
Allow yourself as much grace as you do fear and you will be fine. I've made every mistake there is to make. I learn from them and move on. You've got this.
Hi Scot! I subscribed 😁. I’m going to start very small tomorrow based on a previous video of yours I watched. Thanks so very much!
Thanks so much, Linda! We started small, too. It took us a long time to build our business. I'm sure others have built them bigger and faster. But, your business only has to work for you! You've got this.
Thank you. I recently lost most of my profit with the cost of shipping a belt. I used a small flat rate box but decided to use the flat rate for buyer on the listing. Uggghhh! Now you taught me to weigh the items and put in the dimensions when listing an items so this doesn’t happen again. I guess my misconception was thinking buyers won’t pay a flat rate box shipping cost when they are already paying for the item at the asking price. I’m a newbie so I’m still learning. 😊
It'll get easier. That said, I'm still learning, too. Sounds like you're well on your way!
So bracelet of the weight of the belt it would've been cheaper to do it by weight rather than by size of th3 box ? I'm new as well and I'm confused about this and other things ah , thank you
Thanks! I’m really enjoying your videos and they’ve been very helpful!
Thank you so much!
Thank you so much for this! I am just starting out on Ebay selling stuff. Your videos are a blessing.
I hope they continue to be helpful. :-)
Thank you! Very helpful !
I really appreciate that. Thank you.
