    As a brand new pass that's only been taught to pass the reverse manoeuvre needed for the test this was very helpful to me. I do think that the reverse test should be at least reversing into a parking bay

    As someone who has taught students reversing in motor cars to test standard I've always reckoned HGV class1 driver s to be the most talented drivers. This very informative and clear video has cemented my opinion. Great reversing skills and keeping it real in a working yard with real moving hazards to deal with! I see HGV drivers doing impossible reverses in far too small supermarket car parks, in the dark, in the wet, with parked cars every which way! Much respect to you all.

    Good tutorial. The instructor is decent; knows what he's doing and explains everything well. Also the other guy did really well; top reversing. I used to be a shunter driver in a factory yard and passed on my second attempt. Difficult skill to learn and what I found is that there isn't a lot of middle ground when learning to reverse a lorry; either you are good at it or terrible! Top tip: practice shunting trailers in an area with limited forward movement because there will be times on the job when you have hardly any room to manoeuvre.

    My driving instructor, (who looked a little bit like you Jase) said to me when I was learning to drive many moons ago...
    "I will teach you what you need to know in order to pass your test, only then do you really learn how to drive.."
    Those words still ring true, even now some 20 odd years later

    • @JasonWaltonDriveAlong
      @JasonWaltonDriveAlong  8 лет назад +5

      +Xantec That is still the case today. A test is not there to say the are awesome at driving. It's for the examiner; who determines weather or not you are competent enough to drive the vehicle! only then do you really start to learn!

    Would love to see more of this kind of content Jason. Especially with the licenses being combined soon, my main fear is going to my first job as a fresh pass having only experienced the one reversing manouver which you can just remember what to do based on the cones and being confronted with a tight bay or challenging reverse where you actually have to know how to manipulate your trailer and adjust to the surroundings.
    I was recommended this video 5 years later in the comments of a vlog, and as far as I've seen, it's still by far the best guide on RUclips. There's a lot of information about passing the tests and vlogs following people on the job, but very little as detailed as this on the in depth techniques and mindsets that really help the new drivers being thrown in at the deep end.

Not driven any trucks for around 15 years due to health issues. But now looking to return to some sort of driving work. I am stressing about my reversing ability after so long. So loved watching your video to pick some great pointers. I could just do with an hour or so, doing some manoeuvring around a yard like yours. To renew my confidence.👍

    I smiled all the way through this video.. so good .. thanks Jason . I drove triple spits on Seddys for 10 years when I was young then did 20 years of IT sat at a desk, now about to take my medical to get my Class 1 back and go back to driving at 53. In all the years I did IT I don't think I was ever as happy as I was at the wheel of a bendy one. But I still get the shivers when I think of blindsiding it. Over confidence causes more accidents then lack of experience in my opinion. 100 shunts is better than one accident. But I'm nervous as hell of the reversing after all this time, but Ill do what i was taught by my old driving mentor, slow as fuck.. safe as fuck.. again thanks Jay.

    I have just passed my HGV1 yesterday, after 20 years of hgv2 driving and it's a wake-up call. This video is educates, and I'm anxious to get going. Reversing is my weak point, 30 tonne rigid vehicles was a peace of piss.

    Fabulous tutorial video, after driving rigid vehicles for nigh on 20 years I am turning my hand to driving class 1 next month for the company featured in this video, I did struggle a bit in the reverse on my assessment but it ain’t easy when you start, I shall watch this video again and again, thanks again for this great tutorial.

    I'm not a truck driver, but I liked this video. the nearest I get to driving a truck is in Eurotruck simulator 2 and American truck simulator. the reversing 'seems' to be the same principal. i wonder how these games compare to the 'Real thing'.

      Bonnie glad it helped. Just take it one step at a time. Be aware of your surroundings. If you’re not sure, get out and walk around the vehicle.
