best advice is, r kid , have a bash/word of mouth, if you can put up with loads of hours ( to make a decent wage). the crack is, the turn over of waggoners is massive. they spend "plenty" to get the ticket, 12 month later, f/that. some get a good crack, alas, not many. good luck.
Hayley you’re doing great, the reversing will come , as others have said here take your time don’t let others rush you. Every days a school day and it will all be second nature in no time. I have been driving these for over 34 years and I still cock it up now and then. Take care and stay safe.
Brilliant video Hayley you did really well. When I passed my test the guy at the agency I was signed up to said I've got just the job for you I was shunting trailers at the Cowley Rover parts delivery centre I spent more time going backwards than forwards but it was great experience. All credit to your company for giving you the time in the factory as a shunter lots of others would have just told you to get on with it. I'm sure you and them will reap the rewards of this time spent gaining confidence.
@James Ross .... And I hauled 360's and Dump Trucks in and out of the Cowley plant when they demolished it James !!! 1993 if I remember correctly ....I was bringing a punctured Volvo A30 back to London and at 11 pm on the A40 I got pulled over .... The cops thought the Dump truck was about to fall off the bed !!! Looking at the lowloader from behind and in the dark also , you would think 'twas about to go .....They were good times ... Let's try and be encouraging towards Hayley ... There seems to be something very genuine about the lady
You did well, using the space and setting it up is the trick. When you parked the flat you were more fluent. My dad taught me, he used to say, stop using the steering wheel! So he meant go from your good side, if you get it wrong stop, and pull forward and give it another bite. You will crack it very quickly. Thanks for posting
Excellent demo, every learner should be watching this and listening to your experiences and good advice. You must have been a great teacher. Well done.
First day went well. When I was learning to reverse I was always told to baby steer, ie smallest movement on the steering wheel to acheive the direction you want. When you was going in middle door, the jackknife was correct but when you was told to take it off, just enough steer to bring your unit in line with trailer. you are not trying to change the trailers direction at this point. If you want stop, handbrake on and assess. You can now see where the vehicle is heading from both sides. Now you can see what small adjustments need to be made. once continuing you should be able to reverse on the mirrors, if too much of the rear of the trailer is in the left mirror a small(baby) steer into that mirror ie left hand down a bit to left mirror and vice versa keeping the back of the trailer in both mirrors. Good luck
Hayley that reverse into that door was superb,i know guys in my workplace who would struggle with that and they have been driving class 1 for years!! Well done👌🚚
Nowt wrong with that reversing Hayley well done,I'm sure you got your experience and confidence now.Great videos for guys just starting out.I havnt taken my test, not till jan 25 but these vids are a big help, thanks
Well done Haley. My tip if it helps. A farmer once showed me (On an really old truck without power steering) to think of the steering wheel as a 50p, move it slowly one section at a time which I have since gone on to find tends to stop me from over steering and then having to wind it madly back again to correct it on modern stuff. Drive safe and enjoy your new drives.
17:00 - I was saying "pull it out a bit more!" (been playing way to much Truck Sim lol. Well done! and the best of luck to you. I'd love to start HGV driving, but I haven't even got my regular license yet, as i lived abroad for half my life :D
Shunting is great for practicing manoeuvres. The condition you received that truck is disgraceful. Ive never had that in my years of trucking. Now on freight trains, those locomotive cabs are just used by everybody. You’ll get the hang of manipulating the auto box with the throttle after a while. Biggest tips I got when starting about reversing that helped me: 1. Use small inputs, don’t start turning the wheel left right like mad, that’ll come with experience as you will know exactly what it does before the trailer does it: 2. Don’t concentrate on where the back of the trailer is going, but draw an imaginary line that the centre axle of the trailer needs to follow and try stick to that. 3. The shorter the trailer, the smaller your steering movement wants to be. 4. NEVER LET ANYBODY HURRY YOU, if you need to take an extra shunt or 5, do it. If you want to get out and take a look, do it. Any idiot laughing at you for doing that has either forgotten how he started or will inevitably hit something soon enough. Best of luck! It’ll seem become second nature soon.
@Jim Bob I’ve only tried ETS once recently. I did a reverse on it. It’s not completely the same, but yes, I would say I does help to get used to reversing. I think it mostly helps to think about which way to turn the steering wheel. When I first started I imaged I had two ropes attached to each corner of my trailer to the steering wheel. You pull to imaginary rope in the direction you want the back to go. So if for example you want to trailer to go right, you pull with the imaginary rope attached to your wheel, so you’ll be turning your wheel to the left. Hope that makes sense. See what works for you :)
Good on you Hayley, seems you getting on with it, remember starting out on class 1 back in early eighties, made a few mistakes, but learning is all part of it. Big respects to you, drive well, and stay safe!
@Zinc Partriot ...."any man ( or Woman ! ) that never made a mistake never made anything " .... I'd say that if someone started a conversation with stories about clusterf.cks , silly situations and downright stupidity , it would merit becoming a theatre comedy !! Shout out to Jake from Jake's Autos Nottingham , thanks for the help in getting me into my locked truck back in '95 .... Engine running , doors locked and John locked outside in his boxers and boots at 8 pm ish , first week of January and raining ..... One expensive pee .. The mighty Foden with the early fly by wire ' , now you'd be halfway across a roundabout before that yoke would decide to pull .... New drivers had little problems coz they weren't set in their ways .... You needed to allow the truck to feel the load and respond ..if you hit the accelerator you'd confuse the ECU .....oooh
Wow Haley, mighty impressive for a newbie. If I could do half as well on my first day when I start class 1 soon, I will be very happy. Thanks for the tips, some great comment feedback, tips etc too. Keep on trucking!
I learnt to drive class 1 HGV, way back in 1989, aged 26.The number 1 rule which I learnt, from endless reversing and pulling out between other trailers parked up at multiple loading bay distribution centers was this: If you're pushing a trailer backwards into a tight, full length gap, using a lot of reverse lock, then a multiple axle trailer (bi or tri), will steer on its rearmost axle. The amount of overhang is therefore at its lowest. HOWEVER, when you pull the same trailer out of the gap, the trailer will now steer on its most forward axle, thus having considerably more overhang. This can make things especially difficult if there is very limited clearance to pull the trailer completely clean of the others on each side. My instructor for my HGV course used to ask this as a question for trainees i.e. "Can you think of a situation where you might reverse a trailer into a tight spot between adjacent units and trailers but then not be able to pull the same trailer out, without risking the tail damaging one of the adjacent cabs???!!! Apparently hardly anyone ever got it right and to be fair, back then, all our training for the test was with single axle flat-beds. However it was only a few weeks after my test, that I reversed a Montracon tri-axle trailer up to a loading bay next to a wall. I put the trailer a bit to close to the wall and sure enough, as I went to pull it out, with to much lock up front, the unit pulled the trailer on its inside front wheel and the far outside corner swung round and jammed on the wall!!!
I’ve posted before I was a bit critical just watched you first day video you were better than I was and I’ve done 38years hgv believe me you’ve got it keep it up
So proud of you Hayley you just get on with it and a smile as well xx What you have to remember is with the drag system the tractor unit is nearly twice the length of yours so the steering pivot point is that much further back so as you said you could correct it more easily . So in reality you need to just accept you have you have passed your test in the drag outfit and now move forward with a shorter tractor unit and the longer trailer and the steering pivot in reality is just behind the cab . As another driver had said quick hand and slow foot xx With the doorway just make a mental note of the width difference between trailer and the marker posts and get half each side xx You will make this no problem xx
Once again, thanks for a non sugar coated honest review of the difficulties of artic reversing. I think you will be an excellent class 1 driver. Good luck 👍
When reversing into a building that you can't see into hand break on get out of cab and get someone to stand where you can see them to guide you in, because if you cause damage the onus is on you.
Nice video. Remember to take your time. Don’t be afraid to shunt, no matter how many times it takes you. Your always learning and you will still make mistakes years later.
We all started on day one looking like numpty when reversing. It's nothing but seat time and practice. When reversing a tri axle use the middle one as your guide that's your pivot point. So sort of stear that axle where you want to go .
Fantastic to see you in an artic, first day at school again Hayley. All the best for the future, and to K Transport for being a great company. Shout out to Colin Best regards from the Black Country. John.
The best drivers' have fast hands, and slow feet! I'm in stitches 🤣🤣🤣 a DAF... fast!? Haha, SCANIA all the way! 😎 Congratulations on your new work, I will keep an eye out for your plate hanging on for dear life🙃
@@preddy2940 I've not had the experience of MAN or Renolvo's, but other drivers' don't speak very highly of them. A Volvo's comfort on a SCANIA chassis/engine/gearbox would be a hell of a machine!
Well done , reversing is an art and takes some learning and I'm impressed for your first few days. I was always taught regarding reversing, that what ever lock you put on the steering wheel take it off twice as quick. That was you will straighten up quicker. And also when you have to correct a mistake you don't need to go as far forward you just need good mirror checks and quicker steering to get results. 👍
That is one of the trickiest reverses I know, your going from brightly lit area to a dark are, through a tiny doorway, and you did fine from what I could see.
@@chrishoggett1375 I’ve had drivers who prefer coming later in the day, when the sun is behind the canopy, and it’s a little darker because it’s easier for them to see.
Well done Haley 👏 your dad will be looking down at you and proud of you as I am practicing makes perfect and remember when you are reversing always get out and look if you are unsure x
You are doing OK love I remeber many years ago before HGV TESTS being told to take an AEC artic down to the docks to pick up a Load only ever drove a Bedford TK rigid then in the deep end springs to mind !
Jim Bob Hey, I drove buses for 5years and then I had my back fused and been bored now for 10yrs with arthritis 🙄 (btw I don't miss the buses either 😂😂)
Take your time and look and plan your manouver. If unsure get out and look. I find myself the tight and tricky place are easier to reverse into then reversing on a supermarket bay🤣🤣🤣🤣 my first run out in an artic was with a 50ft double decker rear steer. Safe travels 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
I have just come across your vids, so first off: 🥳congratulations on passing your test and those maneuvers were absolutely fine. I've been on class 1 for about 3 years now and still make a pigs ear of reversing from time to time. Even some older drivers have said it will always happen every now and again. Just watched 26 too, the camera debate. Very good points. Trucks, bikes and guitars. And I applied to K's once. It would have been a pleasure to have met you. Happy trucking.
I see you went past the junction for Bentley Green, the road to the EMR scrap yard and what I refer to as the "back way" into Darlaston. I go to a club close to the Bus Station and Asda but I don`t get there as often as I`d like!
congratulations hayley great vlog hats off to you you handled those reverses bang on nothing perfect the first time after passing keep trying and you will be perfect and spot on with the bays and door ways keep up the good work xx
One thing I see lots of drivers doing, new and not that new on the wheel is, going from full lock left to right to left to right... Once that skip allows You to see the big gate, relax. Lean your back back, look thru the mirrors and move slowly. Use the steering gently too. The mirrors are set to your normal driving positiom, so hanging out the door's window to look at your strong side might give You a sense of confidence but You need to get used to reversing using the mirrors. Also, there were some people there. Ask them to watch You reversing, just in case. You're doing very good. All the best
I remember the first door I had to reverse into had a bit of a sweat on done a fair few shunts there is never enough room in front of you but you done well
Congrats on your 1st day everything will come with practice. From the little I can gather as I'm new here, but will serve you well in this industry is your calm, easy going and level headed attitude.
Hayley congratulations on gaining your C+E licence. watching you on the video your doing absolutely fine you have the right personality and mindset to become a great class 1 driver if your ever unsure when reversing in difficult situations don’t just rely on on others Don’t be afraid to stop hand brake on and get out and have a look for yourself at least you had some experience coming from driving a ridgid when I passed my class 1 HGV I went straight from a car to an artic within 10months I was driving out around Europe and to Saudi mind that was back in the 70’s 30 + years later I’m just about to hang up me gloves ..
Well done Hayley 👍 nothing improves your general driving and reversing than experience. It’ll all click after a few months and you’ll be slotting that trailer in to ridiculous places with ease. Once it starts taking longer to get the paperwork and reference numbers than to reverse in somewhere you’ll know you’re a real trucker 😝 longer trailers without rear steering axles require more steering to manoeuvre than shorter trailers and even less if they have got rear steer. Gentle movements needed in that case. I have to reverse petrol tankers with no overhang so they go all over the place really easy. Keep up the good work we are all heroes keeping the economy going. 👍
@@TruckDriverHayley Thank you Haley for your message just please don't worry class 1 please don't let anyone panic you just take time even reverse always get out and look love to you and your dad I'm sure like me and lots of others be so proud of you 😊
@@TruckDriverHayley Haley thank you for your reply you are more than welcome I am only trying to give you Advice please listen to what I say No matter who watches you love just even get out of truck and look for your self 😊 hope you have a lovely weekend x
Its all about practicing, reversing into tight bays and using the space you have. And I've watched American truck drivers making a mess of reversing and they have longer trailers than we Brits use. So keep going at it and in no time at all you'll find your itch. Cheers Hailey.
You did good Girl ! My old instructor allways had two trailors to play with a 1 x 20ft and 1 x 40ft and then he had road cones to practice reveresing it taught me one thing the shorter the trailor/wheelbase reacts faster than the longer trailors, two axle swivel point is different to a three axle swivel point and to add to the confusion if you lift your axle on your tractor you get another reaction knowbody can teach this only practice will it become natural to you, as a personal point buy some spec cords then you wont smash your class s frames, remember the law now says if you wear specs fulltime it should be declared on license renewal also you should carry a second pair to keep mr plod happy.
I thought u did very well .remember when I first passed 16 years ago I had this rear steer trailer it took 14 goes to get in topps tiles got a round of applause though. Now on brick and block building sites that's improved my reversing a hell of a lot. Well done keep on trucking x
Just found your video. Very inspirational and a great source of information for new drivers. Your doing great. Very impressed by your abilities. It helps having decent people who help you learn . Seems like the guys you work with are good mentors. 👍
little late to this video. those seat squabs always seem to go on the edge. an unpretty that does work is swap the squab with the one on the passenger seat and just use some duct tape over the hole which will hold well when seat not in full time use. Squabs sorta pull up and forward with a little tab under the front
Really informative, thanks Hayley!! Congrats on doing it,looking good reversing, can’t wait to try. just a newbie… wanna be a trucker ! 😄 🤞 you’ve such a positive and honest attitude 👍
Philip says it is all practice you are doing ok.dont forget you have passed your test.philip wants to do the same if I ever get the chance to drive a class one.keep safe and well and keep happy philip.
Hello Hayley been looking forward to seeing your first class 1 video!! I have also just finished my first week in the Artic have been driving to Daventry and Nottinghamshire trunking! I have really been enjoying the whole experience! we just have a very tight depo which is challenging but good experience! wish you all the best! :)
I think everyone can remember there first day as a class1 driver, it's a day you won't forget. 😉 Mine was with M&S in Hemel Hempstead, yogurt became milk, and milk became everywhere. 😋
My first day involved blind reversing into a side road as I couldn’t get out the other end of a road as it narrowed to less than 8 feet with no warning signs! Took me about 15 mins to turn and I upset a lot of “rat run” rush hour traffic! Cars parked both sides all very tight had to get out 10 times to check everything but still saved doing accident forms!
Day 9 of Class 1 was there. Bay 12 with Chilled. Loads of room but I still fuffed it thanks to my alleged "Buddy" baulking at me. Got there in the end.
Hahah your damn right ... deffo sticks with you ... being chucked a folder of paper work with some keys and a trailer number written on it and told to crack on ... had the gaffer behind me in his wagon all the way up the m6 to Warrington... talk about a sweat on
Every job and site is a learning curve. My first job to our Cardiff depot reversed on bay first time next day my second job at our reading depot took 10 shunts lol just take your time observe your surroundings.
Always difficult backing in the dark,it's all guess work. Best advice is small steers and often instead of big handfuls if that makes sense. Small corrections are easy to chase once you start snakinking your forever going lock to lock. Been doing it 31 years and it still bites you when you relax! Anyway, well done you, stay safe.
some very good tips for you to read ,from me to you of 50yrs exp is always pull straight where you can before rev ok and the other tip just feed the steering wheel slowly if your having to go faster with the steering wheel then your going back too fast you will get the hang of it and the guy seems to be helping you which is a good thing you will never forget what he is teaching you stay safe and enjoy
Don't worry too much. Best advice i was ever given was when reversing always try & point your trailer in the direction you wanna go thats half the battle. Make small adjustments with the wheel & most importantly take your time. If in doubt get out was my motto
16:08 "The problem with this is, you can't even see the door, as the skips in the way" !!! Hayley says with a smile NOT haha LOVE IT !! Still pretty much nailed it though didn't you Hayley? I'd have been at that for half an hour lol
@@drewbrierley4750 this is very true lol I'd need to see the bottom though !!!! damn my brain isn't very flexible !!! That skip would have thrown me right off but like you say if you can see the top then it should be all ok.
When I went around for a bit after I'd finished my deliveries on the class 2, I was struggling with it a bit so Colin put a cone in the way so I had to reverse around it. Since then it hasn't been so bad. It's just weird trying to get your head to work in bendy mode and not rigid mode. What really helps is driving out of the door and watching how the trailers moves. There's also a lot of tyre marks on the floor that can be used as a rough guide :)
Hayley you were doing your class 2 the same time as me, but I couldn't find anyone to take me on without experience so I went on and did my class 1 in order to get a start, ive been tramping in the artic since and wouldn't thank you for a class 2 wagon now, artics are more comfortable on the road than most rigids
Well done Bab. I did my Class 2 & Class 1 last year and started my first Class 1 job a couple of weeks ago. I have leant so much since then. Absolutely learned so much in that short time. I am on Reefers so we have to do a split couple/ uncouple to get leave room to get to the lines. Couldn't agree with you more with the reverse, it's bloody witchcraft! I am really struggling TBH. Don't help that my "Buddy" is total passive/ aggressive. The same issue as one of your shunts, I can often get the trailer straight on a bay at our place or an RDC but end up with the cab on the P1$$ a bit! Fingers crossed that I make the grade. Driving is no issue, I was in Bus & Coach for 30 yrs. Odd to think that apart from reversing, it's actually easier to drive a bendy one! Even with a 14.6m trailer. Good luck mate x
I hope everything's going well and you're getting the hang of it. It's tough isn't it? Haha. I still get anxious now, even a month and a half down the line. It's definitely witchcraft ! 😊
You’re doing well Hayley, get those glasses cleaned as they are minging!!!! You know that I’m only winding you up. Take care, and keep her lit. Good luck with getting your seat replaced.
Hi Haley, Decent effort on the reverse into the warehouse to be fair as a Newby ;)............................... If I could give you any advice when reversing on your (Good side) between the bollards, would be simply try and go tight on the offside bollard, that way at least if your to close to the said Bollard you simply pull out re-position and have another shunt !! More importantly, you'll never have to worry about your (Blind side) near side bollard being Struck ;( As a Lefty Driver it does seem natural for me to do this anyway to be fair ;) P.S. Couldn't help noticing your warehouse bays have axle stops and lane marking to assist When reversing towards the said warehouse ;) Absolute luxury back in the days when i first Started to drive Artics 28 years ago, we simply had CRUNCH , ............Yup Trailer parked ;(
Well done halye the reversing will get easier the more times you do it as always practice makes perfect and shunting trailers is a great way to get the experience of manouvering in tight spaces going backwards just rememeber to know your enviroment and whats around you and give yourself as much space as you can find infact the more space the better and never be afraid to put the handbrake on and get out to have a look to see where your at which is what i used to do when i first started out.. My first artic job was driving to switzerland and id never been outside the uk up to that point so you can imagine how much i was bricking it when i got to dover to ship out to calais and was told by the steveodre i had to reverse up the ramp and into the wings at the rear of the vessel…yeah i was sweating bullets but done it in one and perfect parked between the chain restraints holes on the floor😊 Every time you get better its a personal victory for you and eventually you will do it wothout even thinking so just keep at it girl your doing just great and to be honest from watching this you have already nailed it when you reveresed inside the building coz its a nightmare going from daylight into a dark factory loading area well done you..👍😎
In a tight place Your GOAL Should Be Get Out And Look. If in doubt check it out. and don't worry what anybody else says take your time. Also when reversing and its not going were you want and space is running out. Just stop go forward and straighten up and use the space in front. I see so many drivers not doing this just a tip for you. You are doing great
Reversing them must be ridiculously hard. Especially when you can properly see. And you got to make sure you not hitting your cab when maneuvering the trailer. Give yourself a great big pat on the back. You doing amazing xxx
A good move approaching Putney heading for Q bridge with all the nutters coming up your inside with a death wish your a brave lady I retired 3 years ago i had had enough of the stress GOOD LUCK HOPE ALL GOES WELL 👍
Hayley, great job today! Very happy you back blogging with more frank and honest commentary. Shunting is great experience and Kays and the team there seem so supportive. Looks like the yard shuner needs tlç. The seat is disgusting and needs sorting no excuse there even for a yard shunter. Its team work and folk doing the job right keeps everyone safe and happy, Have a great week Hayley.
good 4 you hayley any reverse that you dont hit anything is a good day ,, ive been driving / reversing 30 odd years and still have a day where a 2nd shunt is needed ,just take your time

The condition you received that truck is disgraceful. Ive never had that in my years of trucking. Now on freight trains, those locomotive cabs are just used by everybody.
You’ll get the hang of manipulating the auto box with the throttle after a while.
Biggest tips I got when starting about reversing that helped me:
1. Use small inputs, don’t start turning the wheel left right like mad, that’ll come with experience as you will know exactly what it does before the trailer does it:
2. Don’t concentrate on where the back of the trailer is going, but draw an imaginary line that the centre axle of the trailer needs to follow and try stick to that.
3. The shorter the trailer, the smaller your steering movement wants to be.
4. NEVER LET ANYBODY HURRY YOU,
if you need to take an extra shunt or 5, do it.
Thanks for the tips :)
VERY WELL DONE HAYLEY. I RECALL MY FIRST DAY IN C+E AND SCARED POOPLESS!THAT WAS A VERY LONG TIME AGO,KEEP IT UP AND YOU WILL WIN!XX
Bloody hell Hayley your a natural well done girl im proud of ya...The more driving you do the easier it gets
We all started on day one looking like numpty when reversing. It's nothing but seat time and practice. When reversing a tri axle use the middle one as your guide that's your pivot point. So sort of stear that axle where you want to go .
Thanks for the tips :)
Fantastic to see you in an artic, first day at school again Hayley.
All the best for the future, and to K Transport for being a great company. Shout out to Colin
Best regards from the Black Country.
John.
The best drivers' have fast hands, and slow feet!
I'm in stitches 🤣🤣🤣 a DAF... fast!? Haha, SCANIA all the way! 😎
Congratulations on your new work, I will keep an eye out for your plate hanging on for dear life🙃
always had scania's myself did try a volvo and a daf(and a man but least said about that the better)always preferd scania's
@@preddy2940 I've not had the experience of MAN or Renolvo's, but other drivers' don't speak very highly of them.
A Volvo's comfort on a SCANIA chassis/engine/gearbox would be a hell of a machine!
Steady on Kev, the 400+ bhp is much nippier than my Scania rigid 240 bhp 😂. I do miss the Scania interior though 😥
Indeed, Especially on a bright day you are simply blind.
@@chrishoggett1375 I’ve had drivers who prefer coming later in the day, when the sun is behind the canopy, and it’s a little darker because it’s easier for them to see.
Well done Haley 👏 your dad will be looking down at you and proud of you as I am practicing makes perfect and remember when you are reversing always get out and look if you are unsure x
shunting is one of the best ways to learn how to reverse
You are doing OK love I remeber many years ago before HGV TESTS being told to take an AEC artic down to the docks to pick up a
Load only ever drove a Bedford TK rigid then in the deep end springs to mind !
You can get base for your seat they just slide out always put your gloves on outside lorry in case you pick up some grease.
Excellent Video Hayley And Congrats On Your First Day :)
Not Many i know would want it on camera. You Are A natural at the reversing already :)
Thank you Ned 😊
Well done on the C+E i after 20 years no longer drive them, and don't miss the job !
Hahaa, same here ;-)
Jim Bob Hey, I drove buses for 5years and then I had my back fused and been bored now for 10yrs with arthritis 🙄 (btw I don't miss the buses either 😂😂)
@Jim Bob Doing good, thanks. What are you doing now?
Take your time and look and plan your manouver. If unsure get out and look. I find myself the tight and tricky place are easier to reverse into then reversing on a supermarket bay🤣🤣🤣🤣 my first run out in an artic was with a 50ft double decker rear steer. Safe travels 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
well done Hayley just remember every one has to start somewhere and things will only get better 👍👍
Thank you, yes, it would've been a pleasure to have met you too :)
I see you went past the junction for Bentley Green, the road to the EMR scrap yard and what I refer to as the "back way" into Darlaston. I go to a club close to the Bus Station and Asda but I don`t get there as often as I`d like!
I think i know which club you mean. Good Times.
@@garywebster6453 Begins with a C?
congratulations hayley great vlog hats off to you you handled those reverses bang on nothing perfect the first time after passing keep trying and you will be perfect and spot on with the bays and door ways keep up the good work xx
Fantastic to see you back and onto a new chapter with a fresh challenge. Will be watching closely lol Good Luck and your soon be on top of things.
Hayley congratulations on gaining your C+E licence. watching you on the video your doing absolutely fine you have the right personality and mindset to become a great class 1 driver if your ever unsure when reversing in difficult situations don’t just rely on on others
Don’t be afraid to stop hand brake on and get out and have a look for yourself at least you had some experience coming from driving a ridgid when I passed my class 1 HGV I went straight from a car to an artic within 10months I was driving out around Europe and to Saudi mind that was back in the 70’s 30 + years later I’m just about to hang up me gloves ..
enjoying your videos i been out on my own for 2 weeks now and still struggle reversing in some places, hopefully i improve soon
You could allways put the 90 degree on before you start to reverse...by turning your tractor unit on the approach
Well done Hayley 👍 nothing improves your general driving and reversing than experience. It’ll all click after a few months and you’ll be slotting that trailer in to ridiculous places with ease. Once it starts taking longer to get the paperwork and reference numbers than to reverse in somewhere you’ll know you’re a real trucker 😝
longer trailers without rear steering axles require more steering to manoeuvre than shorter trailers and even less if they have got rear steer. Gentle movements needed in that case. I have to reverse petrol tankers with no overhang so they go all over the place really easy.
Keep up the good work we are all heroes keeping the economy going. 👍
Thank you your comments 😃👍🤩
Thank you for yours as always Andrew 😊
@@TruckDriverHayley Thank you Haley for your message just please don't worry class 1 please don't let anyone panic you just take time even reverse always get out and look love to you and your dad I'm sure like me and lots of others be so proud of you 😊
@@TruckDriverHayley 😍
@@TruckDriverHayley Haley thank you for your reply you are more than welcome I am only trying to give you Advice please listen to what I say No matter who watches you love just even get out of truck and look for your self 😊 hope you have a lovely weekend x
Its all about practicing, reversing into tight bays and using the space you have. And I've watched American truck drivers making a mess of reversing and they have longer trailers than we Brits use. So keep going at it and in no time at all you'll find your itch. Cheers Hailey.
Just lots of practice now . You've got great company support behind you and you listen . A guaranteed success.
Thank you! It's great that you could practise with two different sized trailers. That's a great thing to help with the real world :)
I thought u did very well .remember when I first passed 16 years ago I had this rear steer trailer it took 14 goes to get in topps tiles got a round of applause though. Now on brick and block building sites that's improved my reversing a hell of a lot. Well done keep on trucking x
Thanks very much. You too, all the best 😊 x
Awesome vlog haley look forward to the next one
Thankx 4 uploading, it was good to be a fly on the wall on your fist day, glad 2C it was not too bad 4U,.
Just found your video. Very inspirational and a great source of information for new drivers. Your doing great. Very impressed by your abilities. It helps having decent people who help you learn . Seems like the guys you work with are good mentors. 👍
Thanks very much 😊
I’ve found the DAF are slow to react . They seem to be well known as not being as precise at reversing compared to a Volvo or Scania .
Your a natural ,wish i was that good 30yrs ago well done & good luck don't take any crap off David & Andrew Kay
little late to this video. those seat squabs always seem to go on the edge. an unpretty that does work is swap the squab with the one on the passenger seat and just use some duct tape over the hole which will hold well when seat not in full time use. Squabs sorta pull up and forward with a little tab under the front
Thanks for the tips. They replaced the seat in the end 😊
Really informative, thanks Hayley!! Congrats on doing it,looking good reversing, can’t wait to try. just a newbie… wanna be a trucker ! 😄 🤞 you’ve such a positive and honest attitude 👍
Well done Hayley, your on the right path with your reversing keep on keeping on.
Good luck Hayley. Love your optimism...First day, first truck, and you're hoping they'll put in a new seat for you!😆😆😆
They did 😉
Philip says it is all practice you are doing ok.dont forget you have passed your test.philip wants to do the same if I ever get the chance to drive a class one.keep safe and well and keep happy philip.
Be confident! You’re blatantly very able to do the reverses! Every one is different, practice makes perfect 👍🏼
Your bloody honest with everything. Brilliant video 👍
Hey Hayley! Soon to be trainee HGV driver here, been really enjoying your videos, very helpful and honest! Keep safe and well 😊
Hello Hayley been looking forward to seeing your first class 1 video!! I have also just finished my first week in the Artic have been driving to Daventry and Nottinghamshire trunking! I have really been enjoying the whole experience! we just have a very tight depo which is challenging but good experience! wish you all the best! :)
Thank you. I'm doing my first week of deliveries this week. It's going well so far. I wish you the all the best too :)
Stunning vlog! :) I cannot wait to see more content from you! :)
Well done Hayley on your first day as a class1 Driver, Practice makes perfect.
I think everyone can remember there first day as a class1 driver, it's a day you won't forget. 😉 Mine was with M&S in Hemel Hempstead, yogurt became milk, and milk became everywhere. 😋
LÖL yes spot on I remember going there it was tight
My first day involved blind reversing into a side road as I couldn’t get out the other end of a road as it narrowed to less than 8 feet with no warning signs! Took me about 15 mins to turn and I upset a lot of “rat run” rush hour traffic! Cars parked both sides all very tight had to get out 10 times to check everything but still saved doing accident forms!
Day 9 of Class 1 was there. Bay 12 with Chilled. Loads of room but I still fuffed it thanks to my alleged "Buddy" baulking at me. Got there in the end.
Hahah your damn right ... deffo sticks with you ... being chucked a folder of paper work with some keys and a trailer number written on it and told to crack on ... had the gaffer behind me in his wagon all the way up the m6 to Warrington... talk about a sweat on
First job moving trailers a short distance is excellent practice.
Good management of a new driver...
Drive & ride Trucks, Bikes & Cars.. same as me. And i also drive plant (loading shovel, dumpers) You are doing amazing 👏
well done day one under your belt as they say one tip i have is always put a kink in the setup when backing up
Thanks for sharing your journey as a class 1 driver. Watching from Sydney Australia 👏🏻🇦🇺
Well done Hayley. You are doing so well. I am really pleased for You. It’s coming together. 😁
Shalom
Props to you for taking that class 1. Good luck for the future, think i'll stick to my busy class 2 work. I love that
Every job and site is a learning curve. My first job to our Cardiff depot reversed on bay first time next day my second job at our reading depot took 10 shunts lol just take your time observe your surroundings.
21:25. Working on the truckers tan. 😁👍🏼 Looks like your doing really well.
Briefly 🤪 haha
Always difficult backing in the dark,it's all guess work. Best advice is small steers and often instead of big handfuls if that makes sense. Small corrections are easy to chase once you start snakinking your forever going lock to lock. Been doing it 31 years and it still bites you when you relax! Anyway, well done you, stay safe.
Good on ya Hayley👍…..that seat looks like some of the DAF’s where I work 😄
Wishing all the best and many safe miles ahead of you 😉
Congratulations on your class one . Do not worry it will all fall into place,it just takes time.
All the best Hayley. You’re getting great advice in the comments 👍.Autoglym interior shampoo will work wonders on that interior
some very good tips for you to read ,from me to you of 50yrs exp is always pull straight where you can before rev ok and the other tip just feed the steering wheel slowly if your having to go faster with the steering wheel then your going back too fast you will get the hang of it and the guy seems to be helping you which is a good thing you will never forget what he is teaching you stay safe and enjoy
Very well done Hayley, just tale your time reversing & going forwards of course !!! Practice makes perfect..........................
U can see the top of it 🤣
@@drewbrierley4750 this is very true lol I'd need to see the bottom though !!!! damn my brain isn't very flexible !!! That skip would have thrown me right off but like you say if you can see the top then it should be all ok.
Just have to guess a bit until you can see it, haha 😂
@@TruckDriverHayley blimey don't say that Hayley lol
Great vlog good to have you back on the the vlog scene keep them coming 👍
Hi Haley,
Decent effort on the reverse into the warehouse to be fair as a Newby ;)...............................
If I could give you any advice when reversing on your (Good side) between the bollards, would be simply try and go tight on the offside bollard, that way at least if your to close to the said Bollard you simply pull out re-position and have another shunt !!
More importantly, you'll never have to worry about your (Blind side) near side bollard being Struck ;(
As a Lefty Driver it does seem natural for me to do this anyway to be fair ;)
P.S. Couldn't help noticing your warehouse bays have axle stops and lane marking to assist When reversing towards the said warehouse ;) Absolute luxury back in the days when i first Started to drive Artics 28 years ago, we simply had CRUNCH , ............Yup Trailer parked ;(
CRUNCH... Oooooops! I'm glad they've got the lines there to help. Thanks for the tips :)
My first artic job was driving to switzerland and id never been outside the uk up to that point so you can imagine how much i was bricking it when i got to dover to ship out to calais and was told by the steveodre i had to reverse up the ramp and into the wings at the rear of the vessel…yeah i was sweating bullets but done it in one and perfect parked between the chain restraints holes on the floor😊
Every time you get better its a personal victory for you and eventually you will do it wothout even thinking so just keep at it girl your doing just great and to be honest from watching this you have already nailed it when you reveresed inside the building coz its a nightmare going from daylight into a dark factory loading area well done you..👍😎
In a tight place Your GOAL Should Be Get Out And Look. If in doubt check it out. and don't worry what anybody else says take your time.
Also when reversing and its not going were you want and space is running out. Just stop go forward and straighten up and use the space in front. I see so many drivers not doing this just a tip for you. You are doing great
Great vlog I look forward to watching your progress 👍🏻
Reversing them must be ridiculously hard. Especially when you can properly see. And you got to make sure you not hitting your cab when maneuvering the trailer. Give yourself a great big pat on the back. You doing amazing xxx
that's a brilliant reverse on your first day, took me at least a couple of weeks before it was natural and i was confident in my ability.
Its a working vehicle long days for shunters who take pride in loading, securing loads, and checking the trailer before the driver does their shift. Its team work and folk doing the job right keeps everyone safe and happy, Have a great week Hayley.
That's not one of the shunt units lol .. the garage will sort it out for her when in for service
That wasn't a shunter, that's my truck, haha. I've given it some TLC now and got a new seat fitted. It's not so bad :)
good 4 you hayley any reverse that you dont hit anything is a good day ,, ive been driving / reversing 30 odd years and still have a day where a 2nd shunt is needed ,just take your time
WELL I'm no HGV Driver but so impressed with your skills
Most folk don't like the pressure of starting a new job and with everybody watching and forming opinion but its thing we all go through to become who we are.
10 OUT OF 10 Hayley
Thank you Peter. Have a great weekend 😊
Hey, not sure if I saw you earlier on the A454 going towards the M6. I work out of Bilston so I'm always looking out for you.
