    Your totally wrong giving the edge to the P20 Pro in the low light comparison of the dark alley . XZ2P has kept much more details in the scene though its a little darker. The P20 Pro is bright but all the details have been smoothed out, looks like paste

      carver 9 People like you are jealous because Galaxy and Iphone or your favorite brand cant do it and cant abide the fact that what Sony has achieved with their new technology as they took phone camera to a whole new level!
      They will have to copy AUBE next year, till then Sony will be using something stronger...

    • @carver9312
      @carver9312 6 лет назад

      Frando 99 ... dont get it. I bought a thousand dollar phone last yr (Note 8) because I thought of it as the best (along with every other reviewer). I have no reason to be jealous. If I thought sony was the best, I wouldve bought their phones but it is trash that isnt going to stack up well with the best. You bringing up camera quality without even knowing if it is better than the best out there. Lol... Samsung was the one that started this "take better pictures at low light" thing which is the reason other companies are trying to achieve the same results. They are following Samsung. Be thankful because if it wasnt for Samsung, you all would still be getting those terrible night time pictures. You Sony fans argued last yr for the premium and it was the lowest selling phone in the industry, and I wonder why. Sony fans can keep arguing for these phones but trust me, you all are the only ones that are doing it. It will continue getting left in the dust by Samsung, Google, and apple.

    The specs on the XZ2 Premium are unmatched by any other phone regardless of whether we can tell the difference between QHD and 4K screen. Sony is really bringing it with their flagships except for some questionable design decisions. Also I think a more realistic lowlight test is just to turn on the flash for indoor scenes.

  • @peterjmsyoung
    @peterjmsyoung 6 лет назад +2

    I have experience with older Sony Z5 premium, what I can say 4k screen on mobile is meaningless. I used to love Sony mobile phone as I went through the first Ultra Z, Z1 (sold), Z2 (sold) and then Z5 Premium. In all instances, the photos were disappointing. I am a big Sony Alpha camera and mobile fan but recently bought and used P20 Pro for traveling purposes.
    My experience with P20 Pro is not disappointing but not 100% satisfactory for several reasons:
    Pro:
    1) EMUI is surprisingly very good (I have to bring this up as it increases the overall experience when launching camera app)
    2) Monochrome sensor (Pro Mode) is so sharp even in low light (this is the best part of the camera)
    3) Pro colour mode is great but not perfect (even work well without Night mode)
    4) Night mode works great ONLY for landscape not portraiture or street photography
    5) The bokeh mode is the best out there
    Con:
    1) No video stabiliser but I always use gimbal anyway
    2) No 3rd party camera app can fully utilize the 3 camera system so stuck with Huawei built in default app. I tried many apps, they either work with one or two of the camera by manually switching the camera selection. The image produced is worst than the default app
    3) Only certain modes allow the use of 40 and 20 megapixel sensor, so the majority of the photos will be taken with the 10 megapixel sensor which is probably why P20 Pro loose out in the details in the test shown here. I hope the test was done using the correct mode when comparing with the Sony XZ2 Premium
    4) I suspect the night mode is just a longer exposure mode (limited to JPEG 10 megapixel), I personally would go to Pro mode with the same 5 seconds exposure but produced raw 40 megapixel output, better result
    5) Raw mode only available in Pro mode
    All in all, P20 Pro is the game changer. Many features are working great but I will keep Z5 Premium for video still despite the lens cover is scratched. If anyone considering which phone to choose, P20 Pro will soon be overthrown by the newer Vivo Nex S or the Oppo Find X. These phones though can't replace FF sensor :-)
    Peace

    • @troy5568
      @troy5568 6 лет назад +3

      Tap the dark area of the photo and it will change the exposure to higher levels. If it ain't enough, it can still be raised higher to achieve the same level of brightness.
      The thing is that the XZ2 Premium chose to expose the whole scene in a balanced way, while the P20 Pro chose to expose it higher for the sake of making the image look brighter, which in turn makes people think it's better even when it's not.

    • @troy5568
      @troy5568 6 лет назад +7

      The real challenge here is whichever can zoom in closer to the image and still retain a lot of detail.
      I challenge P20 Pro fans to do this without pixel bining (XZ2 Premium doesn't even use anything to take a picture except its camera hardware and typical software).

    • @refererererer
      @refererererer 6 лет назад

      Sadly the samples that came out from many sites don't look promising. They are very noisy even at low ISOs.
      I hope Sony already fixed the software. I believe their camera can perform the best with the right software.

  • @Dragontrumpetare
    @Dragontrumpetare 6 лет назад +14

    Sony explaned the placing of fingerprint sensor. Its places there so when you pick the phone up from your pocket, the fingers are there perfectly.

    • @Boomer.Roberts
      @Boomer.Roberts 6 лет назад +1

      And the camera being so low and centered is beneficial, since it means your fingers are unlikely to cover the lens accidentally. The only downside I see to the low camera/fingerprint sensor is that it doesn't leave much room for the battery to be as big as it could be, since it has to stay smushed below those components.

    Sony is one of the favorite brand in Mexico, over Samsung.
    P20 doesn't use Pixel Binning, they just use HDR for night mode, that is way the image looks bright but plain and desaturated.
    The P20 is brighter but is just too soft, less noise but less detail, but the worst is that the color is destroyed!!!
    The color science in the XZ2P es outstanding.

    Sony smartphones is still exist in Indonesia, I know several diehard fans of sony smartphones. But its true that it is losing to Chinese phone.
    In the past, there are several Japanese smartphones in Indonesian market, panasonic, kyocera, fujitsu, etc. But now only sony and sharp. Sony has a good smartphones, but its too expensive for Indonesian and the mid range device is underpowered. Sharp smartphones are underpowered and ugly as hell.
    I think the problem with Japanese product is they dont have the innovation they have back in the days. There are several innovation like 4K display or triluminos display, but all of that is too hard to be fathomed by general consumers. Visible "innovation" like 18:9 aspect ratio, small bezels, ugly notch are more likely to catch general consumers attention.

      But I cant disagree with you, our market is full of chinese product. In fact I'm using OnePlus 3T right now.
      But despite of that, several smartphone makers in fact had invested in Indonesian market by building a factory. Like samsung, sony, asus, and several chinese company. And their flagship device are available in our market.
      I'm so glad that you are not the ceo of those company though. And by judging by your comments, you won't ever be one anyway.

    BTW Sony Won because he has 2 cameras and the P20 Pro has 3 meaning that in the low light, it should do better the Sony but it doesn't and your wrong Sony became the new low light King. Lets say makes next year 3 cameras, what would that look like with the second gen of the AUBE processor??? The design is good but not as the loop surface design but I believe this design could become something in the next few years with them tweaking and making the curve of the glass gentler.
    The phone is good and quite good.
    I heard in China it will be in the range of $800 and in Japan less. The US will be $1000 but actually the other phones hit more than that number last year and this year they will be more, so please stop blaming Sony.

    brighter image isn't a better image. There's many other things to consider.

    • @MeaTufail
      @MeaTufail 6 лет назад +4

      Exactly. P20 Pro's pics are pasty as shit, but just because they are brighter on a few occasions, the reviewer thinks they are better. he should have blown the pictures to 1:1 and compared the quality. often phones choose different exposures, and it really varies from scene to scene, but it doesn't mean that the phone which chose a darker exposure is the worse.

    • @jzvr5842
      @jzvr5842 6 лет назад +1

      Doesn't matter when Sony's pics are so dark you can't even see parts of it. Pasty beats a black blob like in the first pic any day.

    • @MeaTufail
      @MeaTufail 6 лет назад +2

      JZ VR just like i said, it's only a matter of choosing different exposures from shot to shot, we won't know until he shows 1:1 crops, because at this magnification it looks like Huawei's photos are brighter but noisy and pasty at the same time

    • @MeaTufail
      @MeaTufail 6 лет назад +3

      JZ VR and brighter doesn't mean better, if the Xperia's photos retain better detail in the shadows, you can brighten them up, and you can do that right in your phone editor, you don't even have to import them into photoshop

    • @jzvr5842
      @jzvr5842 6 лет назад

      If you're talking about manual mode then Huawei has the better manual mode as well and twice the ISO, just accept the fact Huawei won and move on.

  • @davidvandewater1402
    @davidvandewater1402 6 лет назад +24

    HUWAWEI isn't capable of photo adjustment. Because it's to light.it's overexposed. if you underexpose you can adjust brightness. So an over exposed image with to much light is you can't so you can think it's better but it's much worse. I see it a lot of times of reviews. That's is wrong. There for Sony is way better.

    • @refererererer
      @refererererer 6 лет назад +3

      No it's not just about the exposure.
      They use artificial intelligence to boost brightness by adjusting the shadows, highlights, contrast, and brightness. It's the same as what you get on a photo editing software.
      You can take a dark image and brighten it cleanly using a software that can adjust brightness, contrast, highlight, and shadows. It's not similar to what a real high ISO camera delivers.
      The proof of this is the brightness difference in the video. XZ2 P is brighter with videos because the P20 Pro could no longer perform the special brightening process on video. If it tries doing that, it may burst into flames.

    • @shaunstevens4292
      @shaunstevens4292 6 лет назад

      I feel like all of the P20 Pro photos are over exposed. I prefer the more "natural" look of the Sony. I quote natural, because at this level, natural is really just pitch black.

    The sony looks like not a bad phone , however some questionable design , the finger print reader in the middle of the phone , you would think sony would have taken notice of samsungs last years finger print sensor location that sucked .
    the bubble shaped back that spins like a top when on the table or when trying to type on a desk .
    i actually prefer some bezels and the 16.9 aspect ratio , why did sony abandon last years xz premium design and just refine it a bit ??
    No headphone jack ....... wtf sony ???

    Kudos for being one of the only reviewers I've found who will tell people that 4K resolution on a 5"-6" screen is overkill. I understand that manufacturers want every possible edge they can have on their products but it's impractical given the viewing space.
    Thanks for the comparison of the two cameras.

    If you are talking about the brightness only, Huawei did do a very good job; however, if you are talking about the image quality, I would say Sony won this battle. Those details kept in photos taken by Sony is far more than the Huawei did. But, to be frank, the XZ2P is way too bulky. Even though, I would buy one to enjoy.

  • @troy5568

    P20 Pro might've won in some cases, but XZ2 Premium is the most consistent.
    Even on the first low light shot, the XZ2 Premium didn't look horribly bad, the P20 Pro just did slightly better.
    The second one, P20 Pro was brighter but not much detail at all. Someone even argues about being able to see something, well, the same brightness can be achieved on the XZ2 Premium if its exposure is focused towards the dark parts of the scene. Only that it has no specific exposure focus so it has to expose the whole scene in a balanced way, which it did very well.
    The video, just not gonna speak anything anymore. But I'd even say that I prefer the iPhone X over the P20 Pro in video for at least having good stabilization.
    P20 Pro only if I want pure photography and nothing else.
    Otherwise, XZ2 Premium it is as an all-around camera phone.
    This is, we're still waiting for Mate 20 Pro, Xperia XZ3, Pixel 3 XL, Galaxy Note 9, LG V40, and iPhone XI

    Actually your wrong because Sony has a lot and 4K isn't an overkill because it doesn't drain any battery besides it up-scales on certain apps. Sony has a lot in the competition but the thing is they don't market or publicise their phones and that's why it's losing.
    Sony is and innovator and till now it innovates while still losing and other phones do stupid unpractical things like notches and 18:9 displays when there is not content for 18:9.
    Sony created half what of the smartphone world has but no one appreciates and most of the people they don't know about because they're busy being shallow, superficial and going to other brands that doesn't have a thing.
    What did the other companies do??? Nothing, except the Chinese when they did the VIVO NEX and OPPO X but tell me what did Apple do since most of you see it the best???
    I don't blame Sony for the price and we don't have to blame Sony for what they're doing but the only issue they have is marketing.
    In order to make money, you need to spend money.

    Pixel binning, as a cheat, doesn't help with motion. And as a general rule, when I'm doing low light shots, there are things moving. Also, pixel binning (usually) doesn't help when shooting video.
    There's no processing substitute for greater light sensitivity. And XZ2P, with its monochrome low-light camera, beats all other smartphones on the market in that regard.

  • @razorgcy
    @razorgcy 6 лет назад

    Sony definitely has more potential. Wider apertures and a gigantic extra B/W sensor with 1.55um pixel size is surely a strong foundation on which Sony needs to improve their software immediately. AUBE is clearly more video processing focused than still processing.

    Was the night mode on the p20 pro used? The photos looked pretty bright so it might of been used, but I feel like some of the photos should have been brighter than they were. And please don't come and say it needs to be a fair test because if there is a feature like night mode it should be used. Software is starting to be more and more relevant in phone cameras and if some software is left out of a test then I would argue that the test is unfair. Sure you could argue that you don't want to wait 4 seconds for the shot and the extra processing time. I would say that if you want to take a nice low light shot it'll take some time to line up your shot and you wouldn't mind waiting ~10 seconds extra for a nicer shot.

    Sony is similar to HTC. They did so many things 1st and had classic unique designs. But the big players copied all of that and then made themselves far bigger names off of it. Ask any Apple fan if they knew that Jobs hired Sony's lead designed to create all of the iPhone prototypes? Bet they don't know that. I'll bet they do t know about how when Apple was crying about Samsung memos saying "be more Apple", Apple was right there a few years earlier passing out memos saying "be more Sony". Also Sony was making waterproof phones and all glass phones way back in the late 2000s when nobody else was and now they all do that. It's all really sad, but it is what it is. They're not dead yet though!

    Firstly, in my opinion, the P20 Pro is still a better camera for talking photos, even in low lights. However, sony have an entire different take on their camera and low light performance. XZ2 premium does in fact produce an image with more details, but the p20 produce an image that is brighter, although with less details, it still looks better on a small smartphone screen and on social media. The image produced by the sony can indeed be a overall better and clearer image after manually adjusted, but keep in mind most consumers won't do that, therefore Huaweis' take on low lights are more user friendly in my opinion. Secondly, the Huawei have 3x optical zoom and 5x hybrid zoom; I admit that the "lossless hybrid zoom" is just a gimmick but the sony lack any zoom capabilities which is a shame.
    Moving on to video capabilities, the p20 pro is simply disappointing. It is not in line with the current gen flagships and it can in fact be beaten by last gen flagships, part of it to blame the inferior Kirin 970 chip set, another part being that videoing capabilities aren't the focas of both Huawei and Leica. So yeah, the sony pulled ahead by a long way.
    Apart from the camera, I still think the p20 pro is a better handset overall. The sony have a very sexy back, but the front is so outdated. The P20 pro aren't the best looking phone either, but at least the screen to body ratio is doable. Not to mention, P20 Pro have EMUI desktop mode, which is actually useful ( when playing PUBG). And in terms of gaming performance, the sony is faster because of that sweet SD845, the P20 Pro is getting a GPU turbo update in the future, which oath to give the handset a great boost. Lastly, Huawei have faster charging and a longer battery life than the sony, not to mention the price.
    In conclusion, the P20 Pro is a better handset.
    If anyone read the whole thing, well-done, you are as bored as me.

    In this comparison, Sony showed Iphone X the reality as Iphone too uses Sony Sensors and used to beat Sony in older Iphones variant. Sony didn't use the best Image Sensors on it's own Xperia Smartphones rather it gives the best sensor to other smartphones that's why Iphone used to beat Sony in camera comparison.

  • @lionelb8227

    The smartphone market is so bad these days that people are considering a phone outdated because of its design… That's why we can now see this amount of disgraceful notches everywhere...
    Design is a matter of taste, only real spécifications and performance can be said outdated, and in this regard, Sony has some great "world first" as they like to call it: Motion Eye for example, 4K HDR recording, a 4K HDR screen since the XZ Premium (it may be overkill, but it's still unmatched till today).
    Beating the P20 Pro in videos is not that difficult, Huawei phones with their Kirin 970 are lacking when recording videos (it lacks IS at 4K for example).
    The Sony photos are great, they are noisier for sure, but there is definitely more details than the P20 Pro and they look more natural.
    But that would not be enough to help Sony to sell, hype nowadays seems to be better than real qualities...
