  • I make a Regency/Jane Austen era bonnet using a straw hat and green silk fabric scraps from my sleeveless Spencer project.
I love finding uses for expensive fabric scraps, this is a great project for less than a yard of fabric, and you can create accessories that match your outfits!
Bonus: Diana the Corgi and Bean the Chihuahua dogs

I do prefer sewing to glue, but sometimes I will bring it out lol 😅

Welcome to Wales. What a beautiful bonnet and a timely tutorial. I have a straw hat ready to make into a bonnet and this has helped me a great deal. Thank you.

I just found a thrift-store straw hat and aspire to the same! Regency ball in September, learning dances in August.
Dress pattern is on the way mm and I'll be using satin from when I sewed my dress for my son's wedding in 2019.
The bonnet fabric is a striped pattern. Should be interesting!

@VR-Trooper that's so cool, it would look lovely with striped fabric! 💚

Thank you! It's my favorite thing to be able to use every bit of fabric that I can, so it makes me so happy when I get close! 💚

Welcome to the UK, I hope the dogs were not too long in quarantine before you got them home. Love the bonnet.

Thank you! The dogs didn't have to go through quarantine thankfully, that restriction had let up. We got them back the day after we landed 😊💚

So beautiful. We will be in Bath having Team at the Jane Austin Centre. Wishing I had a bonnet. I don't think I have time to make one, or pack it! :-) I think I will try to make one when I get home.

@@AbiSueCostumes Where did you find your straw hat? Looking on Amazon, but not finding anything close to this.

@darylsmith1793 I think I found this one second hand on poshmark in the states before I moved. Vinted would be the place to look in the UK. Amazon might have some things, but I have better luck second hand, charity shop finds, ebay, vinted, etsy, that kind of thing
