It's good to see the straw braids in that hat (and probably many others) were chain-stitched together. That means they'll be easy to take apart. It also looks like she might have been able to make brims for two bonnets from one hat, making a crown for the other out of millinery wire and stiffened fabric.
This tutorial was wonderful, I have a regency ball to go to and really wanted to make a bonnet, but didn't want to start from scratch since I'm limited on time. It looks great and very cute!
I used nearly the same color ribbon on my straw hat! It took a long time to sew it all around the brim, but it was very relaxing to do it while listening to an audiobook .
ok so I'm one of those weirdos that comments as I watch. So I run a sewing and art workshop for a non for profit organisation and my mother just took over the kitchen but its fused with my schedule. So we work together a bit. and I asked if I could get one or two kitchens a month for myself(We still discuss it and work together(Since she has the safe food handling certificate and experience teaching cooking) but I'm the one who picks themes and recipes. One a month is going to be a historical kitchen. This month is regency themed. and I'm calling it Dining at Netherfield Park. Its going to be Regency recipes and I'm so excited!
I really need to make myself more bonnets. I found the cutest little bonnet at a vintage shop and Im not 100% what era its from but I need to recreate it!

It's so cute. I never would have thought of using an old straw sun hat that way. You look wonderful in the whole outfit.
Now I have to try too!

So cute!!! If I wasn’t allergic to straw I’d make one like this.
Oh, it's a cheap plastic one from the dollar store lol.
Cool. I might make one then. Thanks for letting me know.

I have an old straw hat that I’ve been wondering what to do with. Maybe I’ll make one of these bonnets
Wow! So cute. Did you use a standard needle or something more like a denim needle on your machine?
I use universal needles at all times.
I have a legit question, does the hat protects enough from the sun?
Yes and no? It's more fashion than function
