I've thought about a similar project but as a hybrid on a east west awd vehicle. Run standard fwd setup but remove driveshaft to rear end and mount a decent electric motor. Can run a large alternator and vary torque input to assist takeoff traction, save fuel or run full electric for short periods like around town. I have a donor car already so over time I'll collect up bits to have a crack at it.

Je vous rejoins totalement quant au fait qu'il serait très intéressant de convertir nos vieilles caisses à la place de les remplacer par des neuves. En effet le coût énergétique pour leur conversion est très probablement moindre par rapport à la construction de voitures neuves.
Ça permet aussi leur recyclage.

Au moment de l'enregistrement, le cadre légal pour la conversion de véhicules thermique -> électrique n'existait pas encore en France. Aujourd'hui il existe.
Vous semblez avoir des idées très négatives du "système" français, et pourtant...
Je vous souhaite de tenter de vivre en Italie (essayez d'être soigné si vous êtes polytraumatisé ou atteint d'un cancer), ou Suède (essayez d'acheter une boisson alcoolisée), ou USA (essayez d'ouvrir un commerce alimentaire importateur de produits). Très intéressant, notamment pour relativiser et comprendre que l'absence de "bureaucratie" est bien souvent synonyme de merdier ambiant et de désorganisation totale.

I really envy you for having such an awesome and totally unique DIY electric campervan ! I am waiting for TESLA or another car company to produce an electric van, that can encompass my sleeping matress. I hope, that it will happen in the next 3 years....I need one ASAP ;-)
The is camper vans coming out very soon like the VW camper. RENAULT n so on have made vans big enough for a mattress, the is the NISSAN E-NV200 witch is big enough n cheap enough to get second hand. I doubt a TESLA van would be a good idea because vans get used n abused and a normal van driver ain't going to wait weeks or months for the van to get fixed, the cost to buy one would mean hardly anyone would get one

This is a coal powered vehicle, just like tesla. It takes coal or crude oil to turn the generators to produce electricity to charge your cells. Solar, wind, hydro and nuclear are a very small proportion of electricity producers.
Your stupidity is even funnier as it take 12kw of electricity just to refine and make 1 gallon of fuel....... you are as clever as a brick buddy

@@kobrapromotions No it wont be legal in France, the goal is to have papers for the van (saying it is electric) and have an insurance for this vehicle, then we should be able to drive around.
Great! We have now done 2 overlanding trips into Asia, all with diesel. Being able to this with your own solar panels is great! And I see the route stays in the sunny areas :)
China and Myanmar crossings may be very annoying where you have a fixed timeframe of for example 5 days to make that cross in China, which is not the constraint you want when it is not charging well enough.
I like the T3 syncro but hate there unreliable engines which are usually not good enough for overlanding (because of mountains). But you have fixed that issue :D Great work!
Solar panels can barely keep one 12 volt battery charged much less a vehicles battery pack, unless it the size of a football field.
I see 4 axles. Bravo looks like you kept 4WD. True adventure vehicle.

I would like to just put an electric motor on the front diff. Leave the petrol motor in the back. Tacho gen to sync for off road use. Over sized alternator to charge batteries and if required direct drive elec motor. Drive all elec as mush as possible. Still just a theory. Love your work cheers
