I distinctly remember over two years ago Louis, me commenting on your old VW camper video, suggesting you meet up with Jehu. So awesome seeing this actually happen!
So amazing project 🤩 It's my dream to build an electric van and travel all around the world. Tip: if you have a battery higher than 48vdc, you can use directly all your chargers, induction cooker, an even inverter fridge without any additional inverter from DC to AC. I made tests and its works awesome, because in every charger AC turns to DC. And you don't need to do it multiple times.
dude you're freak ... I love that ... you're an inspiration for all of us, for three reasons: 1. because you took the iconic VW T2 (surfer van) for the project 2. because you have the guts to go for it, even if you're not a rocket scientist 3. you're not afraid to fail, and this, for me, it's what really counts in life
Great video Louie. As someone who has followed you for a few years and I always thought your talk didn't equal up to your actions, this is amazing! Electric is truly the future. I to drove an electric bike for several years and now drive a Model 3. I would convert a bus myself if I was more adventurous. Jehu is a legend too so thanks for getting him some more exposure
Nice idea if you can't find parts for the original combustion engine. Definitely fun. Batteries are not CO2 neutral. Not by far. Especially not with US electricity. But better than the old engine
Being a licenced electrician, mechanic, building engineer and master HVAC license holder. Also a lover of camping and nature. I found this build incredibly interesting. Good job man. Hope Elon Musk takes note and builds a production van. You could definitely give him some tips and ideas!
I agree, also I love watching stuff like this as there’s not much content out there like this on RUclips hopefully his videos blows up and recover some of the cost that he’s out on this project none the less it will be all for a good cause, love the movement guys!!
@Johnny Dong Guys I’ve seen many projects yes but not many on like where you switch a petrol/diesel engine van for a full electric, I’m not on about any other normal project or engine swap, as I don’t watch electric swaps or electric cars for that matter, and being a van lover I just thought I’d share my thoughts on this video and say there’s not many video’s of of this this on here maybe it is but I’ve not seem them, I don’t quite understand, “what do you think a mechanic is doing 40 hours a week” of course I know they do, you just answered your own question they’re a mechanic, but Louis ain’t a mechanic is he.
I know this was months ago, but series hybrid is very efficient. A ICE running at constant load/speed makes it maximally efficient, you can plumb in a real car exhaust to minimise noise, and this would give you big range with a small battery. Best of both worlds.
@@philp9957 Yeah, I picked up on this. At the start he emphasises on how he's going into this big project with 'no knowledge' - who cares when someone else is doing the work. Either way, its a great project though. Interesting watch
In Brazil you can buy vw parts at the grocery store. No matter how small a town is, there's someone who can rebuild this engine in 3 days using only hand tools. Definitely not expensive to maintain a wv van here.

I am so absolutely excited for this series. The world needs more people like Louis! Can't wait to have an electric car myself and not have to burn any more fossil fuels for regular vehicle travel. Thank you for sharing this adventure Louis and investing in electric! Yew!
We have an actual Tesla and its range is 320 miles. We've used it for road trips of up to 1800 miles (one way). you need to recharge at a supercharger every 250 miles or so for 30 minutes or so. So you go get a drink and go to the bathroom and/or eat a meal and you're good to go.
I had the same ‘highttop’ T2 bus traveled also true Europe, but never had a issue. You can drive vintage with just good maintenance and driving careful. That said, going electric is awesome, love this project!
wow incredible. we were just talking about rebuilding old vans with newer electric engines! that is so so cool WOW. So proud of all you’ve accomplished with all your builds, you should be so proud of what you’ve accomplished. keep going! we’re new to vanlife youtube community and cannot wait to make inspiring videos like these to drive people to live their dreams and be free. thanks for this video and can’t wait for the next one! any feedback and/or support you can give to us would be greatly appreciated!

Following your journey for years with a few breaks but stuff like this makes you one of the greatest creators on yt. No way I could scroll past that 🚀🚀
Excellent, back in the day I had a 1963 1500cc VW Van. Loved it too, until the reality of keeping it on the road was just too much. I wish I had it now to convert it. Loved the video.
I bought a Volt back in February definitely the best car decision I have ever made. Next car will be fully electric, this it was a really good and affordable way to dip my toes in the electric car world. I live in a big city so I never use fuel unless I go on a road trip (which doesn’t happen much with covid right now.)
I was a bit concerned with the project when you started removing some of the cross beams on the underside. I'm not sure if you addressed that as a structural issue. I am enjoying the process. Hope you get loads of miles of travel and enjoyment from it.
i am currently doing a Diesel Engine in my 71 VW BUS. Tons of Torque and 40 to 50 MPG. Doing the electric swap is an amazing idea but for going on real road trips it will never work great for real world road tripping. I wish you tons of luck and goes well.
What would be an interesting sequel to feature your Classic VW Camper would be to get an artist to decorate it with Woodstock style Hippie designs.😎😁♥️🎵🎶🎶🎶🎸🎸🎸🥁🥁🥁🥁
Really interested in this. When battery capacities increase and the internal combustion engine is no more, my car will be getting restored and an electric engine fitted. No point having a V8 if you can’t fuel it!

Yes! The beauty, depth & character of a vintage VW camper combined with the clean, green, reliability of an electric vehicle. This is the dream.
Look up litium mining you tool. Electric cars pollute more than a gas car...
Also the electricy you charge it with often comes from coal power plants
