Good job Wally, I love the Maverick & Comets. I had a 72 Comet GT back in the 80's with a 3.55 axle and 280 Magnum Comp Cam. It was a screamer! That engine you are building will be a good low 12 second possibly high 11 Maverick, all depending on the rear gear and tires you are running🤠👍
Hey Wally, new subscriber. You got me on the COE build.Looking forward to that build.I am building a 53 chevy COE ramp truck too.Your tuff as nails working in that heat.Cool Mav build too!
Super cool project Wally. I had a 73 Grabber with a 302 and a floor shift auto many years ago. One of the cars I wish I didn't have to sell. Lookin forward to more on this one too 👍
Love this car Walter, had bought the same year car, same color (if it's metallic) and little 6 banger from my folks neighbor's. No A/C, bench seat interior upholstered in stretchy banlon(?) material. Amazed that the trans fits, with minor mods! Great work!
We are a lot alike. Chevy guys with a Ford or two thrown into the mix. My daily is a 87 R10, have a 69 Mustang I'm getting ready to start working on (putting in a 4R70W, why I watched this), and have a 57 4100 that I will make into my tow rig. Thanks for all the great info.
Great job, love all your ideas and was thinking of them and you already had them ! Really like how you present the vids and don't waste a lot of time talking about useless stuff. Keep up the good work. BTW it's 70 degrees here and cloudy in Massachusetts !
Wally , you always do such nice work I am a little concerned you are spreading yourself a little thin , so now I feel you should think about a big home improvement project like adding a second story to the house all by yourself in august, well that could be next week's video????
Wally, I'm very familiar with a 72 maverick, I've never seen a non-grabber with 5 lug wheels. The common 6 cyl arrangement was 4 lug. I agree that's not the original spoiler but the other parts scream grabber. If it was built as a 6 cyl someone has been swapping parts.
17:31 You don’t need to justify that is the way to survive up here in Calgary Alberta Canada I do the same thing whether it’s car stuff just anything you just have to be smart about it obviously make sure you know you’re not getting something that’s broke beyond repair and just send it
Where to begin? I have 30+years of wrenching and fabrication. I've built more door slammers than The care to count. It's obvious you work on GM's crap. You used some of the "tricks" on putting a transmission in. It gets hard to watch. Removing ANY of the bracing the factory put in, is, bottom line, crazy. This is a unibody. Shade tree guys have fits trying to figure out what the factory did. The simple fact that it's a survivor, makes it extra special. You removed a major brace for the floor. Yes, it was in your way. Any AOD based transmission is large on the exterior. I say that from knowing how easy a c4 fits. And yes, your trans is a variant of the AOD. The biggest difference, electronically controlled. Any 302 of the cars vintage, was flat tappet. The 5.0 version has roller cams. Other than that, pretty much everything will work. You got a motor that somebody sunk a lot of change into. Bore, cleaning, line honing, mains and cam, ain't cheap. I'd put money on the clearancing is only halfway finished. If you were smart, you'd locate a roller 5.8 block. The cam will work in it. I built a 302 for my own project. I didn't scrimp on parts or block work. Every bit of the flash has to come out. Chamfer EVERY edge. That's called, in laymans terms, stress relieving the block. I would also bet you've never heard of the big problem the 5.0 blocks have. If you get north of 500 HP, the block can /will crack down the cam tunnel, front to back. The heads and cam you've gotten t shouldn't get there but at the same time, why ruin a good block? I said the 5.8 is a better choice. They don't share the 5.0's problems. A stock, factory block has its limits. If you want to blow me off, have fun. You won't get sympathy from me. It's obvious my two cents are just that, two pennies. There are ways to make a sbf hold up to abuse. Stroking a block, is, by definition, abusing it. It wasn't made with crazy out puts in mind. They followed Henry's idea of longevity and work production. Stock head, block, crank, are NODULAR IRON. That's the factory's "wonder" metal. The use of nickel in the castings, made them hard to kill. But, they can be. Anything man made can/will fail. Murphy's law applies. And it'll be at the worst possible place. If you were smart, find a book on block prep and follow the directions, to a tee.

This one is not metallic, it’s called medium goldenrod. This car is bare bones, am radio, no ac, bench seat.
Good video, nice job on the cross member😀😀
Really Cool Project. Transmission Mount tuned out good. Killer old Maverick.
Why not! Mavericks are Badass!

4out5 appliances sold that year were that color
Great content.

Cool project!
Finally gonna get to hear that motor! Can't wait!

You are right about doing too much, but there is no way in heck am I adding anything else Lol

I forgot to mention it has a disc brake conversion on the front and a mustang 9” in the rear.

How did the 260 V8 get to 289 inches, then up to 302 inches? ADDING STROKE LOL
Thanks for the laugh.
