Hey Rudy, Long time watcher, even though I gave up the game in the late 90's. The hype and excitement you generate for the game finally rubbed off, and I went to a Dominaria tournament event this weekend. First event I can recall since Urza's Legacy prerelease. Pretty interesting seeing new card types and abilities that I had never fathomed before. Ended up winning a bunch of packs and generally having a wonderful time. Just wanted to give you a proper recognition for being a positive ambassador of the game.
Thank you Rudy. It was worth the money to me just for the laughs! I will use some of these cards in a play deck to relive the old days and tell all the kids lies about how good the old days were. Seeing the gorgeous artwork takes me back to when I ordered and got 120 boxes of FE and how much that hurt the wallet. At least the artwork and card quality is so much better than what they produce today.
Man, I can remember shops that just could not GIVE these cards away back in the day. WoTC over printed these and I was able to pickup entire boxes for next to nothing.
I mean no disrespect whatsoever; I love your channel. I do feel though that if you explained what you were opening/ what cards are/ history in general of magic that the community youve created would appreciate it greatly. I'm a magic player of three weeks and love the channel a lot. this is my only gripe. Keep on Casting Rudy, Love you.
These old ass cards still look better than most of the stuff today in terms of quality. *Also it is strange knowing these cards are older than most of the viewers on youtube.*
I can't agree. Most old Magic cards had horrible art, and the bloated text boxes made the cards look even worse. I started learning MtG back in Arabian Nights, and I have some nostalgia towards those old borders, but the cards today look simply much better.
There was order in these packs Rudy, the first 2 cards are always uncommons, the rest common. Some of the uncommons are only on the sheet one time so they are considered “rares” now, but really every pack has two uncommons in the front and 6 commons after. Therefore some packs have 2 of what we now consider rares from this set while some have zero, it’s just a matter of if u get the 1-per-sheet uncommons in your 2 uncommon slots.
I’m fairly new to Magic, any suggestions on what a solid booster box to open would be? Like a good combination of value and cost? Half the fun for me and my wife is cracking packs.
I do not own, have never owned, have never played, know nothing about magic the gathering, but for some reason, some strange reason, I absolutely fucking love watching these videos of people opening these packs and discovering what cards lie in wait. I don't know if the card is even good until the opener gets excited about it. It seriously makes me want to like hunt for magic cards. It's the weirdest shit that I know nothing about but secretly desperately want to be apart of.
Maybe you just like seeing people be excited about things, and not that you really want to spend money on these cards, but want to find your own thing that makes you feel like that.
Also as a kid I remember going through the huge boxes of bulk at my LGS and picking out every single Elvish Fortress I could because I loved the art and I loved that I kept finding new ones with different art - it was so much fun for me.
Despite the collapse of the set, Fallen Empires is my absolute favorite set because it allowed me to make my first real tribal deck: fungus. To this day I still hunt down all the spore, fungus, and thallid cards to add to my decks. Thank you, Rudy!

Only 1 minute into the video and I started reading the comments, which transported me back to 1997 when this started becoming a thing in my primary school when I was a 8-9 year old. Homeland was known as the less powerful set of cards ever created in MtG. However, their design with all the legendaries families was so damn cool.
The reason my brother and friends got out of Magic, Fallen Empires, Ice Age and Homelands. We didn't want to keep paying for crappy cards with crappy mechanics. We would get together and buy 3 to 6 boost boxes at the time. $200 to $500 with no return in site. Wish I would have stayed around though.
Friction from cards builds up static and so the wrapper gets stuck to it.
I'd draft that box lol
Rudy, love the channel and content. How do I go about buying a booster box from you?
