  • 2.10.2021 | 6:56 AM | NATIONAL CITY - A garage was destroyed by flames and the cause remains under investigation after an early morning structure fire Wednesday morning.
Firefighters and police received calls for the reported blaze shortly before 7 AM in the area of 5th Street & Lantana Drive in National City.
Firefighters arrived to find a garage fully involved with heavy smoke and flames coming from the building.
Thankfully, firefighters got the fire out quickly.
National City Auto Body was using the building for storage next to their business.
Electrical lines came down leaving one home without power.
One resident said that people have been spraying graffiti all week along the walls and the resident interfered with the males this morning and soon thereafter, the fire started.
The NCFD Fire Investigation was present at the scene, and there were no injuries that occurred.

The guy in red helmet was probly a rookie and is learning but that’s how other guys can get hurt also cause he knew his pathway was clear and it’s a small area so nothing should have caused him any danger once he started to attack the fire. If you ignore it and don’t pick it up then it won’t hurt you! It was a step those guys did not have to deal with when they first roll up which is to cut power and it was out of the fire department’s way so I guess your wanting them to call the power company and wait for them to come take care of it first before they start putting the fire out?

@@1982MCI water on the ground + electrical wire on the ground creates a death hazard. If water runoff makes it to the line, it will likely shock anyone touching or standing in that same water. There’s been countless scenarios where rescue workers must wait until it’s safe and actually wait until power can be shut off to the structure which is usually easily done at the unit on the side of the house. Sounds crazy but it’s true.

Do you understand how hot that equipment is and how much harder it is to move? Your only required to have full turnout gear on if your going to attack the fire or be needed to attack the fire. The one close to the line could have done jumping jacks on the power line and been fine. His rubber boots protect him on that. From the time those guys can first see the building that’s burning as they approach, they are assessing what to do, how they’ll dress, what equipment they need first, etc and once the truck stops, they are rolling. They know what they are doing and don’t need help from folks that can’t put out a campfire
