    Katarina was part of the hallucination, as far as I can tell. The squid ink got on them just before she showed up, and later they woke up in that same spot. Also, I think how she dodges the question about there being 2 holograms on board was meant to foreshadow that.

    To everyone who was so fed up by this that they never went back, I completely empathize. But you guys, if you can summon the courage, I swear that Series X is worth it. Series XI, eh, it's okay. No big letdown, no major hype. But Series X! Please, please give it a shot, I know it's so unlikely, but they bounced back big time. It's hilarious!

    The comic shop was my local one at the time, in Richmond, London (and that’s definitely not the owners). It was also used in Spaced.
    The owners got shoved outside while filming went on. ‘For some new show called Spaced.’ Who knew? 😂

    Didn't mind this one, but then series 8 was hardly a tough act to follow.

    My theory is that the Rimmer in series 9 onwards is a new hologram version that has both the original Rimmer's memories and the resurrected Rimmer's memories. I doubt it would be he original Because he would act differently considering that he's now an inter-dimensional hero.

    • @WhysoSeriousSamual
      @WhysoSeriousSamual 2 года назад +1

      Unless he completely smegged it up, and ran back to the red dwarf/ space bug with his tail between his legs.
      Wouldn't that be the rimmer we all know, Given a chance to be a hero and totally ruining it.

    • @philfitnesspt6139
      @philfitnesspt6139 4 месяца назад

      No Grant confirmed it is the original rimmer who also has memory's of nano rimmer as nano rimmer died so his memory's would be uploaded that's why in s.10 onwards rimmer has memory's of both old red dwarf and s.8 epsiodes

    Do you like Blade Runner? We like Blade Runner. We'd really like you to know how much we like Blade Runner by lifting scenes directly from Blade Runner and hamfistedly shoehorning them into our show.
    Blade Runner.

      I like the namesakes also, William S. Burroughs' screenplay based upon Alan Nourse's black-market medical sci-fi story. Here in the States, that's seeming more prescient than artificial humans, for better or worse.

    Re the Kochanski part at the end of the video, apparently she was going to return in series 10 but the episodes involving her were [unfortunately as I quite liked Chloe Annett's take despite Naylor's questionable execution of the character] scrapped due to budget issues. Hence it was a set up for something that didn't happen

    Kochanski being an impossible goal was so relevant in the books, and in the first few series, which made the mishandling of her character in season 8 so much more infuriating. she should have been important, she sould have been fleshed out-there was so much to build on besides she was into 18th century literature. She immediately fell into "caretaker/nurse" role that so many women fall into in shows. I will never not be mad about this.

    AH! Ok, the Lady Frederik thing is because it's a title taken from her husband, Lord Frederik. Princess Michael of Kent is married to Prince Michael of Kent. I've just had to look that up because it was too interesting. Also, she's Big Suze on Peep Show.

    Also, why Blade Runner? Totally different vibe/subject matter than the satirical bit they’re attempting. The lack of laugh track killed the rhythm in a weird way. Otherwise... that twist ending is gorgeous and the squid setup is pretty clever.

      Blade Runner is a classic sci-fi story, so plenty people know it, so they'd get the references/easter eggs. Plus, maybe they found it the easiest story parody that wasn't alien or the thing.

    • @johngore5127
      @johngore5127 4 года назад

      I thought the concept for this season to be really lazy. You're telling me that after eight years of not having to write for this show he couldn't come up with a more original idea than just rip off the story spine from Blade Runner? Pathetic. There are some good scenes in it (my fav is Rimmer pushing Katerina into traffic, a classic Rimmer move. Even Kryten thought so.) but it's still my least favorite season.

    Part of ther appeal of Listers character was he never had the guts to ask Kochanski out. Then all of a sudden there was a relationship. I wrote to Grant/Naylor about this and the responce I got back was in space anything can happen. They are experimenting with formats and time. A lot of fans will over analize This can take a lot fun out of it. I feel it should be accepted as a bit of fun and not taken to seriously. The writers should be allowed artistic license as they did create the show.

    It's almost as if this film is a self aware satire of the show itself and the fandom.

    I hated this series... Actually, I still do. This is the last series I ever watched of Red Dwarf. Since I never saw the series when it first aired I got to see all original eight series one after the other over just a few months, and then rewatch them every year or so for quite a few years. When this came out it was a god send... and then I actually saw it. I hear it technically got better in the next series but I just couldn't be bothered.

    Cheers for this...I've been waiting!!
    And for anyone who says BLAHHHHH to this series...
    *You are NOT a Red Dwarf fan*
    Xx
    I, for one, thought it was BRILLIANT...
    simply for 1) DUH it's Red Dwarf and
    2) CORRIE!! I loved the inter-reference. (I'm a fan of Corrie, so I loved that they intertwined the two)
    #LadyFrederickWindsor
    I know this "series" was a parody... but a damn good one, though 😂😂

    Kochanski could've been a good character if they actually built on her secret agenda to get back to her own dimension whilst coping with the madnesses around her. You can get comedy mileage out of that. But no Naylor took the easy way out.

    I loved Red Dwarf as much as any Fandom of series. But, you reached point where completely run out of feasible scripts and stories. Why reduce quality of series for few extra bucks. Let it fade into Event Horizon. It's get become like Classic Star Trek where new re invention come out every odd number of years. The best years were Seasons 1-3. The rest just sad rehashing of former Glory Days.

    • @SanFran51
      @SanFran51 Год назад

      Doug Naylor himself said there will never be a final episode of the show. Besides nobody will ever replicate his success. After all this only exists because Dave literally asked him for more Red Dwarf because the reruns were popular.
