I remember showing Camille to a friend of mine many years ago. It took him nearly a minute to stop laughing when Cat saw Camille as himself. "Hi buddy!" Oops, these comments were meant for the previous video! I didn't realise I'd skipped to series five!
Series five is actually where I started to watch the show, since I was catching it late night on PBS. I remember loving it so much I tried to get all of it on VHS. Solid season of a great show.
My first episode was Parallel Universe - The last episode of Season 2, Luckily I think Season 3 came out like immediately afterwards so I didn't have a year long wait.
Someone told him he was going to have a shirtless scene involving underdressed hot women. What would most of do? In universe I like to think Rimmer hacked his own image files at some point.
One thing I wondered have the crew of the holoship just been wandering through space and do the holoship crew know they are 3million years into the future
Could it be possible that the inquisitor didn't erase and replace rimmer because if he had replaced him with the improvement of Ace, could he feasibly present enough of a challenge to defeat the inquisitor? like he strategically chooses against it out of risk to his mission?
I'd say the golden age is 3-6 personally. Weirdly enough I think the best final ep might have been the s12 one where Lister has his mind regressed back to episode 1 at the end.
A friend of mine got to see Chris Barrie at a convention and asked if he could sign something out of the ordinary. Barrie said "oh go on then" until he saw the home stitched Mr Fibble and told him to fuck off!
I think the biggest problem with this season wasn't the directing shifts. I think it was the fact they had so many great ideas crammed into one season!
Seasons 3,4 and 5 were Red Dwarf at its peak - You just can't separate them as every episode is an absolute gem. But of course we all try and here we go.... Season 3 1) Marooned 2) Polymorph 3) Backwards 4) TimeSlides 5) The Last Day 6) Bodyswap Season 4 1) White Hole 2) Meltdown 3) DNA 4) Dimension Jump 5) Camille 6) Justice Season 5 1) Quarantine 2) The Inquisitor 3) Terrorform 4) Back to Reality 5) Holoship 6) Demons and Angels The only episodes from outside those 3 seasons that would make it into my Top 10 Red Dwarf Episodes would be.... Season 2 - Kryten Season 2 - Parallel Universe Top 10 ever. 1) Quarantine 2) Marooned 3) Polymorph 4) Backwards 5) White Hole 6) The Inquisitor 7) Terrorform 8) Kryten 9) Marooned 10) Parallel Universe
One thing I wondered about The Inquisitor is how far back does he judge people does he go back and judge Homo Erectus or what about Early Humans such as Cro Magnons or Neanderthals they couldn't really live a worthwile life as back then life was a constant struggle for survival
I don't understand Rimmer's despair, as he already had highly successful* brothers that were raised in the same environment as he was. *Or so he thinks.
He wasn't thir actual brother his Father was a gardener so he had slightly different genetics which would have affected how he responded to the same stimulus
In response to the question - yes, I did expect rape to come up, but I thought it would be about Mr. Flibble. -He's quite shocking in the Red Dwarf comic, and has a very uncomfortable rape joke sequence.
The Inquisitor is a great episode, but I've always been a little confused by him. He judges or judged everyone in the end. So what happens if he deletes someone whose descendant was found to be worthy of life? Terrorform is interesting, though I kind of wonder what it would have looked like if the moon had imprinted on one of the others.
He does strike me as an egotistical sort of being in the end. Also, it's fascinating to try and track the development of human civilization after the Red Dwarf left the solar system. It's like a kind of time travel, with the echoes of all interstellar history happening at once. So, your illustrious opinion, Mistress, how likely do you think it is something that could still be called human exists in Red Dwarf?
Angels and Demons was a bit of a cop out when it came to the good side - Rimmer should've been a literal knight in shining armour - we know because of Ace Rimmer that it exists in him somewhere; Lister should've been a benevolent and charitable leader type; and for humour's sake, Cat should've been the same.
I actually read a fanfic once, that suggested the Inquisitor was Kryten, after all the other crew members had died, and they explained how it would work by using stuff from series 6 in it. I honestly can't remember any of the crews nobler characteristics that they could have used for the nicer versions of the crew. The only characteristic that I can really remember about Rimmer is that he's a hard worker, and completely commits himself to a task, even if he's shit at it, I can see some potential funny jokes from that, like having the good Rimmer continue to tighten a screw or something. But I really can't remember the other good points of the others that you could really flanderize.
I rather liked SFDebris' take on Cat being driven to suicide by being uncool. Yes, it's superficial, but the Cat is so utterly, effortlessly cool and that's pretty much his entire identity. For him being Duane Dibley really is too much to live with after that.
Evil Rimmer is like if Alex from A CLOCKWORK ORANGE was in THE ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW.
The Inquisitor is possibly my favourite episode next to Backwards, and I'm glad you see how great it is.
The gag with the psi-scan in Quarantine is probably my favourite in the show. It just encapsulate's the show so well
I remember showing Camille to a friend of mine many years ago. It took him nearly a minute to stop laughing when Cat saw Camille as himself. "Hi buddy!"

3:11 - "Don't know why I ate that f**king cigarette...."
Evil Kryten's first appearance is actually genuinely scary
Cat's too. As a kid I couldn't watch the episode at all.
Hot damn, Rimmer has a pretty good body. Colour me surprised.
In a behind the scenes documentary Chris Barrie mentioned he did several weeks of exercising before doing the episode.
Jayfive276 well it certainly worked
Someone told him he was going to have a shirtless scene involving underdressed hot women. What would most of do? In universe I like to think Rimmer hacked his own image files at some point.
That intro music does something funny to my body.
It's somewhat humiliating to realise how much of this show foreshadowed my increasing interest and involvement in the BDSM scene
Having just discovered your channel I must agree with Tony...........you are indeed GRRREAT
Tony 'The Goldmark' Goldmark?!
DiamandaHagan ....De tiger
He was my second choice :). Glad you are enjoying the vids!
The hand/eye puppet reminds me of "Bride of Re-Animator".
Yeah! You're talking about Red Dwarf again! I loved your other episodes about this.
Always excited for these
One thing I wondered have the crew of the holoship just been wandering through space and do the holoship crew know they are 3million years into the future
I meant to say, I love your video description.
I would have found it so funny if for demons and angels, low rimmer was just normal rimmer, as if he was already the worst person he could be.
That's a hilarious idea!
5:38 - Or maybe, I don't know, Rimmer just felt like wearing green that day?
"and Evil Rimmer is Glorious" that had me laughing harder then it should have
Could it be possible that the inquisitor didn't erase and replace rimmer because if he had replaced him with the improvement of Ace, could he feasibly present enough of a challenge to defeat the inquisitor? like he strategically chooses against it out of risk to his mission?
I'm rewatching through these and I forgot all about the ill fated American remake. I hope once you are done with this series you do a video on that.
How would you rate "Back to Reality" as a potential final episode of the show? Series 3 through 5 are considered the golden era.
I'd say the golden age is 3-6 personally. Weirdly enough I think the best final ep might have been the s12 one where Lister has his mind regressed back to episode 1 at the end.
Albie989: Yeah, I'd include series 6 as well. It's one of my favourites, really.
Also Hagan
Their was a running gag where cat surgestion but kryten tell about 2 draw backs.
Personally I found Back to Reality quite amazing.
Will you ever review some of the books?
I only read a couple but they are amazing
I'm going to do a video about the Unmade eps, books and US pilots after I finish with the main show.
love it! thanks for this.

In the 80s I felt it's early flaws but how did it go down hill after series 5 please?
So the Inquisitor is basically a more lethal version of Wowbagger the Infinitely Prolonged?
One thing I wondered about The Inquisitor is how far back does he judge people does he go back and judge Homo Erectus or what about Early Humans such as Cro Magnons or Neanderthals they couldn't really live a worthwile life as back then life was a constant struggle for survival
7:11, Groovy.
I only recently found out Jack Docherty played The Inquisitor. Once it's pointed out, you can spot the voice.
Best known as a chat show host? Some of us are old enough to remember Absolutely!
I don't understand Rimmer's despair, as he already had highly successful* brothers that were raised in the same environment as he was.
*Or so he thinks.
He wasn't thir actual brother his Father was a gardener so he had slightly different genetics which would have affected how he responded to the same stimulus
I liked the background info you provided can i ask where it came from? don't seem to remember it on the dvd extras.
DVD extras and a couple of books :)
Cheers :)
I know it's a nitpick, but how could they all be having the same hallucination?
I believe inquisitor happens at the beginning of the season green before the inquisition and red after it this creating a parallel universe
I realise I'm in the minority but Demons & Angels is actually my favourite episode of Red Dwarf.
Unfairly maligned ep.
It is, much agreed.
It's got a special atmosphere about it. Kind of creepy vibes when I first watched it as a kid. Plus got some good laughs in it too.
Great reviews
When are going series 6 ?
In response to the question - yes, I did expect rape to come up, but I thought it would be about Mr. Flibble. -He's quite shocking in the Red Dwarf comic, and has a very uncomfortable rape joke sequence.

Terrorform is interesting, though I kind of wonder what it would have looked like if the moon had imprinted on one of the others.
Maybe he started at the beginning and moved forward? Or maybe he doesn't care and it just creates more people for him to judge.
Yeah, they meet a few in later eps :P
Plus most of the time when we hear Lister's future it involves wives and children. Also, the psirens have to eat something.
GELFs probably taste terrible.
Also The inquisitor was named in robot wars when they defeated Razer
And craig charles ignore that name
22:58 LOL
Angels and Demons was a bit of a cop out when it came to the good side - Rimmer should've been a literal knight in shining armour - we know because of Ace Rimmer that it exists in him somewhere; Lister should've been a benevolent and charitable leader type; and for humour's sake, Cat should've been the same.
Sounds perfect.
Thanks for the vikings.

:)
For me the inquisitor is the best in the series and demons and angels is worst in the series
