I met Craig Charles years ago in Matthew Street, Liverpool. He was doing a radio show interview with some guy; I waited until he finished and asked if I could have a photo with him, he through his arm around me and said sure! He was so nice, humble & down to earth; it made my day that.
Yep! that is Craig. Spent many years working with Craig and he had time for everyone in public. Except one day, we were having lunch at a Cafe Rouge. While we were eating, a guy came over with two kids asking for autographs. Craig spoke to the kids and did them autographs. But quietly said to the father "this is very rude, you shouldn't be doing this" But made sure the kids couldn't hear!

@@SimmeringPotpourri It was quite non-PC tbh. It was nice to have a bit of a middle-ground in the 90s, but now PC culture has gone a bit crazy in the last 5-6 years. But it was a more fun time for a lot of people. A lot of novelty songs in the pop charts. Zany clothes. People seemed to have better wages for the inflation of the time etc. I was born in '81, but even I remember how fun it was. lol But in general, no, I wouldn't say that the 80s in the UK was particularly PC. lol
That's basically correct. The word police started in the 80's with things like "vertically challenged" instead of short. Policy-wise, it didn't really kick in until the 90's. I coached little league baseball in '93 and that was my first experience with not keeping score in sports. The funny thing is that what we're currently dealing with was predicted both by writes at the time AND us regular folk trying to explain to 6-year-olds why all the runs they just scored didn't add up to a win.
@@SimmeringPotpourri In the UK the seeds were sown in the 80s... but it wasn't PC generally. The 90s is where it started but compared to today... can we turn the clock back please?
@Simon Simon Yeah, I tend to see an equal amount of cries of "left wing bias!" and "right wing bias!" about the BBC from people I assume are massively biased to the left or right themselves. Personally I don't care, I think the BBC is great. In my opinion the license fee is a better deal than Sky, Netflix or Amazon Prime. This comment not subsidised by the BBC.
10:30 is that what vindaloo means in the show? Just anything with curry. Because only a few episodes and I was expecting him to come out with “mayonnaise vindaloo” “wet rag vindaloo” “hey I’m going to the store does anybody want anything vindaloo“
23.20.. keep the standard up!!! ??? what happened at series 7... i think we all know..... red dwarf to me is 1-6 after then the standard dropped.... but what a show....
Agreed, nothing beyond series 6 has had that magic. Apart from a few moments here and there. I think there are a number of reasons why: 1. The characters have started to become 90% focused on their 'quirky' traits, rather than having more rounded people. Cat became extra stupid, Rimmer extra annoying etc. The same thing happened with later seasons of Friends. 2. The core aspects that made Red Dwarf appeal to me got lost. The '4 guys stuck with each other, with no women' and the 'really innovative sci-fi scenarios that they always manage to mess up somehow, leaving them back at square one'. 3. The loss of low budget looking (these days) but surprisingly effective effects. A bit like how Jaws worked so well because they used the limitations to their advantage. The use of bigger sets and higher quality visuals in later series feels like they are filling the space that should contain great stories and humour. Part of the reason something like Cheers worked for so many years is because they didn't change the core location or character set in any big ways.
I think its because Chris Barrie left after season 6 and they brought that cloe antwentte i think that's how you spell her name as fit and sexy as she was it just didn't work so Barrie had to come back
I Love it - *”They sent me the script to read for the part of The Cat, simply to see if I thought the character was racist - because, y’know, Right-on 80s and everythin’.”* As opposed to What Would Happen Today, which would be : “Someone writing it would simply *assume* it was racist, get scared, not-do it and live the rest of their life and professional career *PRAYING* that nobody of a different race ever found out they ever wrote such a thing.” ....
The real cult following of the 1st series was in the services. The humour was straight military, the harshness, the piss taking, it was all anyone I knew on the service was talking about that first year......💖🇬🇧
How come Peter Ridesdale Scott didn't take part in the Series I and II documentaries on The Bodysnatcher Collection DVD (2007)? He appeared in The First Three Million Years 3-part documentary on Dave just a few years ago.

The Slightly Fried version of Lister wouldn’t have worked - it just would have been like Dark Star.
Fred who? Millioner? I can't make out the audio.
Took me a minute as well - it's "Fred" (Alfred) Molina
No silicon heaven?!! Why, where would all the calculators go!!
The greatest comedy show of all time.
"The politically correct 80's" - LOL - oh, if only he'd have known then where we were headed...
I'm so offended by your comment.
I must now form a support group on Twitter for the victims of your comment, and go and dwell in my safe space for a few hours, to get over the trauma. lol
Was the 80's politically correct in England cuz PC culture didn't start in the US until the 90's? Now, well, the 90's look tame.
@@SimmeringPotpourri
It was quite non-PC tbh.
I was born in '81, but even I remember how fun it was. lol
But in general, no, I wouldn't say that the 80s in the UK was particularly PC.
It was a great show.
Perfect casting.
This always reminds me of Alien
I thought red dwarf was brilliant. But I never really liked it when they made a come back and the crew was older.
Norman always available for an interview, and ready to whine about things, Chris carried the show other then rob
I am amazed anything this creative would survive the executive board room of BBC. Not known for thinking outside the guardian.
At 11:45 Doug says "Paul brought Fred ??? in" does anyone know who he named? Thanks!
Same, I've just asked the same question. I didn't know someone else was going to play that role.
A rare show that never patronised it’s audience , most sitcoms we all have to pretend are funny not the dwarf
Fantastic And Funny Sci fi show!
I used to tape it on VHS and trade it to borrow Viz magazines (Comics) with a friend. Best times.
I think there are a number of reasons why:
I think its because Chris Barrie left after season 6 and they brought that cloe antwentte i think that's how you spell her name as fit and sexy as she was it just didn't work so Barrie had to come back
Paul Jackson's massive tie
anyone notice that the best shows of all times have had trouble being made? Mainly due to execs and the people with money getting in the way.
the best sy fi ever
OMG could you imagine Hugh Laurie as Lister?
Favourite episode = Polymorph
Polymorph 2 is one of my favs also gun men of the Apocalypse and legion , wished they had made a movie , or made episodes longer

There are only 2 successful Sci-Fi Comedies on TV: Red Dwarf and Futurama
Do you have teeth Druids could use as a place of worship?
😂😂😂😂😂😂....... Dwayne dibaley
Doesn't Peter Ridsdale Scott have a lovely voice?
What is danny wearing in that interview? Is he going skiing.
yeah, he looks like he's ready to take off
I Love it - *”They sent me the script to read for the part of The Cat, simply to see if I thought the character was racist - because, y’know, Right-on 80s and everythin’.”*
As opposed to What Would Happen Today, which would be : “Someone writing it would simply *assume* it was racist, get scared, not-do it and live the rest of their life and professional career *PRAYING* that nobody of a different race ever found out they ever wrote such a thing.” ....
we get it mate you're old
The real cult following of the 1st series was in the services. The humour was straight military, the harshness, the piss taking, it was all anyone I knew on the service was talking about that first year......💖🇬🇧
Wow, imagine if Lister was Hugh Laurie, haha!
Or Alan rickman. I think Rickman could have done it with Laurie as Rimmer.
Mr flibble is very very cross.
It's a female Aardvark!!
How come Peter Ridesdale Scott didn't take part in the Series I and II documentaries on The Bodysnatcher Collection DVD (2007)? He appeared in The First Three Million Years 3-part documentary on Dave just a few years ago.
May not have been available or not invited?
@@stickytapenrust6869 Hopefully not the latter as it's really thanks to him as well as Paul Jackson Red Dwarf ever happened as he mentions around 16:03-16:33.
