    I am a female who knows nothing about this kind of stuff. My Dad was a diesel mechanic and I wish I would have paid attention more. I did not have any of the spray that was mentioned here but took the bread tie and cleaned the piece with holes on it really good. Put everything back together, swore a few times and it did not work. I let it percolate and then tried to get the spark plug out but I did not have the right tools. I reset the cover on it and gave it more pulls and heard like it was trying. I pulled several more times and it started working. Thank you so much! I learned so much!

      My old faithful is starting to rattle at muffler. It originally had a spot weld burn thru. Muffler replaced under warranty. I want a vid on either spark arrester replacement, or muffler replacement. Thanks. Yeah the pre filter is a sneaky lil bugger. Mine crumbled. .

    I bought my used Honda eu2000i in October 2019 and didn't try to use it until June 2021, but it wouldn't start. Checked the spark plug and it looked bad, so I changed it, but still no start. Looked at other videos, then opened the carburetor and it looked clean... but still wouldn't start. So I borrowed my friend's (same) generator. The next day I tackled the project again and found your video... you did a great job in explaining and describing which tools, etc. It was exactly what you said it would be... the jets. The garbage wrap tie was ingenious! Put it back together and it started up!! Decided to clean my friend's carburetor while I was at it, which he was happy about. Thanks so much for your video!!!

    Well I was just about to bring it in to the shop - had sat for 6 months and would not start. Stored indoors so I knew no moisture got in. Was going to take the whole thing apart along with your video and luckily I watched all the way through. This is the only video that tells you to prime the carb with the machine in off position. 8 pulls in off- flicked to on and started on the second pull. Going to get some new gas and let it run for a few hours. Thank you sir!

    I'm in the heart of Western NC hardest hit by hurricane Helene and this video saved my freezer food storage when my generatore went out last night....likley from using old and/or ethanol gas causing a "lacquer build up" in the jet.

    Great, helpful video! Use of the twist-tie wire to clear the jet passages is brilliant, but one tip. Make sure the exposed metal wire is completely clean: no adhesive or paper residue from the twist-tie. I used a solvent and a small piece of emery paper.

But I completed everything and put it back together. Tried starting it the way you described and nothing happened. Bummer. I let it sit for a few minutes. Came back and tried one more time. Hey, this actually worked! I hadn't run the generator for about a year, and it would not start no matter how many times I pulled the chord or tweeked the choke. So I followed your instructions exactly, and the generator fired right up. I really didn't expect it to because I got so little dirt out of the jets (just some very tiny black specs). Great video - very clear and no missed steps. Thanks!

    Thank you for taking the time to make and post this. I'm the skeptic, but I am happy to take stuff apart and I believe your method has merit, and I'll explore it this summer. That being said, last time no start I removed air box cover and a very small squirt of starting fluid and fired right off for the duration of need. Last time I needed it, after sitting for nearly a year, I removed the fill cap and blew into it, pressurized it, and slowly pulled the rope, then put cap back on and with choke on pull a couple of times and fired and ran for duration. It's hard to imagine this machine has such close tolerances as to need routine dismantling just to make it run. I feel that if it had a small pressure bulb like many 2 cycle engines it might solve my hard start. Thanks again for your instructions and I'll address this next summer.

    • @thisguysgarage
      @thisguysgarage  2 года назад

      HEY BILL ,both methods for start you mention would confirm this diagnosis ,as both would provide fuel to start the engine and it would continue to run but it would be lean with a low fuel supply which could burn a valve or piston , let me know how you make out when you get to it , and I appreciate your time ! thank you.

    • @williamokrasinski9840
      @williamokrasinski9840 2 года назад

      @@thisguysgarage Thanks for the reply. Early on a few years ago I had the surging problem and had the carb off to run the smaller wire through the air/fuel mix plastic nozzle, but didn't think to look in the bowl. I'll get a fire going in the shop and get to it shortly. And I'll let you know what I discover. IMHO Honda and Toyota and other Nippon machinery are closer tolerances that Briggs&Stratton, which by the way rarely fail to start even with all kinds of junk in the tank.

    Eu2000i would not start, So here I am. Did what you said the only problem I ran into was the jet would not come out. I think that the ID dia of that hole was a little small and they jammed the jet in there. Honda QC didn't do a good job that day. Any way I sprayed carburetor cleaner into the hole with the jammed jet, then used air to blow it out. Did that three times. put it all back together and it started. I don't like that jet being jammed in there and not coming out. But it is running good now. Thanks for taking the time to do this video.

    Great tutorial. The off switch on original Honda eu2000i generators shuts off the fuel and the ignition so pulling it over several times does nothing to help start the engine. I have two of these quality generators and both are hard to start after setting for awhile so I pressurize the fuel tanks which helps prime the fuel pump. This makes starting much easier and always use non-oxy fuel.

    Worked for me, only took about 15 or 20 minutes. Now it starts with a easy half pull like it should. Thanks so much for posting this tutorial!

    Honda 2200i is good on fuel😂 but for its triple price I should do this every time I need the generator.
    But I appreciate you video. Good and instructive

    This video is awesome, my Honda 2000 Always started up in the first 3-6 cranks since I got it in 2012 I hadn’t run it in maybe 2 years and this was the first time it wouldn’t start. I literally followed this video step by step and it cranked up on the first pull.

    Thanks for this video. Lost power yesterday and sadly I couldn't get it to start when we needed it. This was my issue and your step by step guide was perfect. Gummed up bowl and injectors was the culprit.
    Now to fix the disintegrating foam.

    Tank you, mine was really dirty and rusty on the carburetor inside, I clean it and I did what you said and it works 😃

    Great video. I did this with an older Honda generator well before your video and it took me a lot longer to stumble my way through the same steps, in the dark and driving rainstorm. It was nice to see the steps for my newer generator and that I'm not the only one to forget the small foam air filter on reassembly.

    The low speed jet is under the idle screw. Its plastic. You have to remove the idle screw to get to it. You never showed that part or maybe your not aware of it, but sometimes its the problem and cleaning the main jet alone wont work. Look at a parts breakdown for that carburetor and you will see what im talking about.

    I saw something from your episode that I found with mine that when I turn the gas on and pull start it sometimes it takes two or three poles and then I let it sit for a few minutes and then pull it again on choke and she starts up. What you mentioned was to pull it a few times in the off position to create a fuel vacuum that will help it start when you turn it on I will definitely try that
