    update:
    - above used ZoeDepth v1 or v2 - the new app TilingZoeDepth should provide a better result, but is tricky to run via Chrome.
    - Midjourney might do a better job - unsure how it fares using imported images
    - Leiapix Immersity does a slightly better job - www.immersity.ai
    - Stable Diffusion can do a good job at times - ruclips.net/video/s3OX87K4HhA/видео.html
these are better methods, but far from flawless. more testing needed.

in the future Ai will generate great Ai depth maps.
but it is not there yet, as seen.

How about something like mechical. I am looking for a better way to do spaceship paneling. Maybe straight edges work better?

yes, straight edges work much better.
organic models are the trickiest it seems.

What AI tool was used? This seems like it generated a depth map for use in camera lens blurring for compositing DoF in post rather than a depth map for displacement.

i've tried several, they're mostly the same, this time it was ZoeDepth by shariqfarooq
it might be that Midjourney can do a better job.
      tho' haven't seen it.
