There is such a conspicuous absence of Brownie. She was so sweet. I'm sure she was happy to see her dad, but she had a great time hanging out with you guys!
She was on her holidays down on the farm???????? We should of got to say goodbye
Brownie went home. Nava mentioned it on her channel!
@@rommelsaint8869 She is Hneiva's brother's dog they were dogsitting for a cpl weeks.
When I was a boy in the 70's on the farm, I de-tasseled corn and weeded bean fields in the summer for extra cash after working on the dairy, farrowing center, and farming beans and corn in north east Iowa!
DC is correct. We need to know what farmers go through. Thank you for working so hard . Happy Independence Day.
I am glad you guys are doing the bin site, I made a joke about it. However I have been watching since 80 thousand subscribers, so I know how much this is needed. I can't wait to see daddy cornstar enjoy the low maintenance storage. Goodluck guys and happy independence day.
Just be safe my Cornstar family. Happy Building. Its finally moving. God Bless you all.
I just watched one of your videos, where DC has a chocolate milk brake, he told us about the hard times of the 1980’s,.. I remember those days well ,,so with all this new bin stuff today , he probably feels like he’s in dreamland ,, when is it time for more chocolate milk? Those are the best ones ! Thank you guys so much for all the fun times!!
You were right, once they get started on the bin site it looks like it's going fast now ! I can't wait to see the progress. 👍
Glad it's progressing, DC always cracks me up with the definitions. Great job as always, thanks Cornstar family.
I hope you set up a camera for a timelapse of all the construction of the bin site.....
I was thinking the same thing while I was watching the video.
Prolly too late now😞
Yes I lose track what going in it only a 12 minutes video but their all over. I bet like me we what to see the build.
A Zip Level makes setting Grade Much Easier than a Laser
2" layer's for packing
It’s always exciting to get new things... Bins... equipment... all farm things ...
I never thought about the trenches when we laid down tile. Got hit with the bucket a few times. Glad that dirt never fell in.
I feel for ya Daddy CornStar, I have days I can't get a string of words out correctly~ Keep on keeping the place hopping!
DC is so entertaining and fun when he's stumbling over words. I wouldn't change a thing about that guy!
Not makin' fun of DC.....just glad I've got "company"! Keep 'em comin' DC!
Every once in awhile you come out with little gems of knowledge like the earth worms - I learnt something - thanks.
I’m so happy that the new bin site has started. You are all such hard working farmers. I’ve learned a lot from you about farming. I’m a city slicker but my parents grew up on farms in Texas. I love your videos. God bless!
My dad knew a man who was digging a trench with his construction crew and he got in and it collapsed and killed him. That is why we never go in trenches. Thank you Cole for explaining that. Except if you take the correct safety pro Procedures.
At work we never let anyone go into any trench without a steel shoring box being set in place first. The dirt is a fluid trying to seek it's own level and can move at any time without warning.
We have to get in trenches or else we wouldn't be able to lay the tile line for our pivots so if we couldn't get in them we wouldn't have pivots
@@stricker-tc4vr I forgot to mention that in my comment. I fixed it.
As a kid we used to play in a trench they dug out in the middle of a huge yard surrounded by apartment buildings. Only now do I realize how dangerous it was even if the ground had been compacted for decades by snow and people walking.
@@stricker-tc4vr As long as you shore them or slope them according the the soil "type" you will be fine. OSHA has set standards in the CFRs that are good to reference to avoid fines, or worse, entrapment and subsequent death of a worker on a job site.
Said it before ....saying it again .....my absolute favourite RUclips channel.....love this family
We just got a good bout (few days) of rain over here on the East Coast. We'll be getting a few more days (4) of rain beginning tomorrow. Wish we could send some to Cali.
Well ... I always wondered how those bin things were built. Thank you buddy for giving us a chance to see this construction process. I can’t wait to see Bin site built and in operation. Keep up good work man. Greetings from Croatia....🙂
Just a quick tip, if you blow a puff of air into the rubber glove before you put it on it goes on much easier. :)
Concrete is great under compression and very poor under tension. When steel rebar rusts and swells it puts the concrete around it under tension, causing it to break, known as spalling. Fiberglass rebar and epoxy coated steel rebar are 2 modern ways to help prevent spalling and make your concrete last much longer.
I'm so happy to see progress happening on the farm! So exciting!
Good looking stand of beans. That rain came at the right time.
It’s almost like a dream 😴 sequence when the lens fogs over ❤️🌽⭐️
The project is in full swing now... very exciting 😊
Everybody gangsta til Daddy Cornstar turns on his septic tank
Great to see the progress on the bin site can’t wait to find out what it looks like when completed
With seeing other farmers having problems with water and pits you are very smart in what you are doing for drainage. 👍👍👍👍🙏
Ahh.. The gagging lessons learned from rotten bean water.
I used to build hog enclosures in the summer when I came home from college. First week on the job I was working in a trench to connect the drain line to that lagoon pit. All I heard was screaming and the sky getting dark when I realized the wall was caving in. I was almost knee deep in mud so I jumped out of my boots and dove the opposite direction…. Only my lower legs got covered. Never did trench work again…
Sunset! Wonderful!
Beans look just fine.
Nice, wet summer so far.
Those laser graders are neat, used one helping out a guy do a drain field for a septic tank
Someday if you need content talk about the windmills Are they yours? Do they rent space from you like gas wells? Just curious how you benefit from all those wind mills and how they work on the farms.
Fab idea!!
The wind mills are not benefiting Iowa. The electricity from the ones near me goes to Illinois and is routed to Florida. All they do for me is make an ugly view out my window. You have no idea how big they are until you stand next to one. There were 64 in a cluster a year or two ago. Hard to say how many now unless I go out and count the red blinking lights at night.
Daddy Cornstar just kills me with his word descriptions. Rebarb and Sump pump. He is hilarious keep him the same. Funny!!
Cole you and your dads enthusiasm is gold cheers from Canada
Daddy Cornstarch, “They guarantee the tire til it goes flat.” Another daddy cornstarism. 😂
everybodies hand prints in the concrete! memories!
maybe a message that will make who someday finds it scratch their head...lol
Fiber glass rebar is really good along with galvanized and stainless steel. Most failures with concrete is caused by corrosion of rebar. Fiber glass is priced similar to steel rebar and has been catching on after engineers learned the epoxy coatings didn’t work.
It’s nice seeing all the improvements your making and it’s a joy seeing some of the younger generation sticking with the family business
But about the Ben site
Without knowing your topography of your land
I would op for a sump drain
Just use a good concrete sealer
and make a good sump and put a pump with a float switch on it and your done
You can then pipe the water to the location of your choosing
With your high water table a French drain well flow water into your pit rather than out in a wet year
Not what you want
We have plenty of fall 😁 the camera doesn't really do it justice 😉
Nice tip on the ditch safety we had a man killed that way 35 years ago now they use move able forms so that can't happen.
Wow , there’s a lot going on . All good so far . They are all working together , which is nice . I like the way , you all talk . With certain words sound funny to me being from the east. Like when you say roof and other words .
I'm so excited to see the finished bin site it's starting to shape up
That looked like an awesome sunset.
Love how hyper you are showing how happy farming can be I'd love to have a farm
My heart always get excited when I see Cole notifications, he is so awesome
So wonderful vlog. Good to hear you are 23 again. Forever young is the way to go.
Finally the construction begins.
Love you guys so just for fun: We don't "pour" cement we "place concrete". Cement is an ingredient in concrete. It's fun teasing folks for how they stay stuff. I say "Potato" you say "Potato" or is it Potatto? Anyway love watching you guys doing pretty much anything.
“rebarb”.
Rebarb is what you call rhubarb that's been overcooked.
I think DC was trying to put on reBarbs gloves.
I wouldn't say it is common, but a lot of Amricans say rebarb.
I know, I caught that one too
I've only ever heard it called 'rebar', but who knows!
Brief glances of that beautiful lawn. We want more!
Good job on the vid today Cole you only mentioned cost one time and slightly a second, that said it made you look much more mature and it also made you look like you were confident and that were in control supervising the project from one biz owner to another good job 👍
happy Fourth of July from up in western Canada.
Happy belated Canada Day!
@@jeanhutchinson6198 thanks.
Good job, Cole - Happy 4th of July ✊🇺🇸👍 - be safe & be well - all blessings & prayers to the Cornstar gang! 🙏🏻🇺🇸🙏🏻
Just here looking at the pad for the hopper bin now that its cracking.... fiber glass rods are a little suspect concrete looks thick enough?
Other than possibly not near enough rebar the issue is load isn’t centered on the footing. Last time I poured basement I think the engineering sad an 8” wall had to be within 4”of centered on 18”wide footing. To put that in perspective that is a house weighing maybe half as much as the full bin and the house has probably double if not triple the linear feet of footing which disperses the weight even more.
@@joewood1013 So maybe the edge is roiling over and the center is heaving that could make sense
This would be a good time to pour a threshold slab for DC'S new overhead door! Hint hint hint...It won't be cheaper to do than today.
Great idea I hope they do that
Yes Brownie was a great addition to Cornstar Farms.
About the pit ... why not think outside the box and build it over the ground. Sure, you need a lot of filling but you avoid the water and can have a screw directly into the leg. I understand that it's probably too late to change the project now, but that's how we did it on our dairy farm, not the same size but still. Good luck with your project.
Thanks for another great video. Was interesting for sure. Your bin site is getting started-ya!!! Looks like all kinds of work going on for the bin site. Like your the way you are getting the water drained from the pit filled with water. Drain tile work good and the man you have on the job seems to know what to do. Lots of different actions coming together now. And in between you got some spraying done. Very good. The bin work is interesting. Thanks for your time to do the video so we can follow along. Appreciate your time. All for now. You all take care and be safe with all the construction. Thanks. Iowa farm boy from years ago.
After this hectic holiday weekend, I definitely enjoyed watching your video! Hope yall had a happy fourth! Thank you Summer and family!!!! ALSO happy late birthday Nave!!!!
Cole, safety begins in the mind and heart of the worker. No amount of signs or training or anything else will make up for that. Your construction guys do, indeed, look to know what they are about- but it has been a real busy season for them after the Dericho and they should be all practiced up! FR
Never dig a person out with a machine....I knew a guy that was in a trench when it collapsed. They guy that dug him out with the backhoe...well let's just say they both lost their heads. Safety is the first thing on any job. Thanks for sharing cornstars
We took a drive from CR up to Elkader. The crops look amazing. Sooo green.
Been personally involved in a ditch cave in do not ever use a machine to dig someone out always use a shovel or you will end up with a corpse. Always slope back them walls we treat everything like type c soil
Daddy always takes time for kids and animals 💛🌽🌟
Good job pretty excited to watch a grain bin getting built. N love the fast-forward tune.. keep up the great work guy's
Great to see the concrete guys at work - pity about the drainage issue with the pit, but you’ve got the experts on the job. 😃👌👏👏👏❤️❤️
Wow, when those grain bin folks get going, they get going❗👍😲
And beans will be done tomorrow. 👌
Great day on Cornstar Farms❗🙌 😉
Daddy cornstar looked like OJ Simpson putting on the gloves.
The beans look awesome! Hopefully good July weather, so far weather has been near perfect.
Really interesting to see how they are building the bin site.
Kudos to the tire changer. Another job that goes unnoticed every day. I used to work at a. ready mix plant. I called the trucks cement truck and the loads the same. My lesson from my boss.... When the cement mixes with the sand and rock that's CONCRETE, now don't forget it. I HAVEN'T!
Was going to say the same. Cement will blow away, Concrete is what gets poured.
Grain handling is very new to me so I am just curious about this. Are you going to make a "concrete box" for the grain pit funnel? If so, why not make the sides of the hole in the ground with sloping sides to avoid cave-ins like it does now? That will also probably make it easier to install the drainage/tile around the box as well as simplify making the "box".
Thank you Cole for all the information regarding all that is needed before you purchased the cement. I’m not sure if white Crocs good choice for the work being done 😂😂😂😂😂
awesome video. Thank you
I really enjoy your videos. Im 67 and cant wait to see what has happened since last video
Heck yeah, now we're talking! It's getting exciting now!
Please go over why the companies you hired to build your bin site are using your equipment i.e. telehandler, backhoe, skid steer, etc and shop space to do what your paying a lot of money for. I'm genuinely curious and you are always forthcoming with this type of info. Thanks Cole!
Go back to clip about that. The bin builder was charging $40k?? IIRC for telehandlar rental. The reduced the price based on using one on farm. I had some building. My being able to unload trucks, haul needed supplies, store stuff out of weather got me added reduction on bill.
Of course daddy cornstarch calls it "rebarb" 🤦♂️
That fiber glass rebar is way better. It is stronger, bonds to the concrete better, and it doesn’t rust. It should be way better in the long run.
Hope they use it exclusively from now on ..especially in Florida.
What a tragedy!
DC it's concrete cement is the base mixture with no aggregate
You guys are so entertaining. I love your videos. 🤗❤️
Awesome couch.
When it is all finished, you should do a quick video From start to finish so we can watch it grow. ❤️
Great video, and I'll tell you that is honestly the first time I have ever seen fiberglass rebar.
Thanks for emphasizing safety on the farm. While you do an awesome job explaining farming and the satisfaction from farming there are many tasks on a farm that are dangerous and should be respected as dangerous. Bin deaths, equipment deaths, chemical deaths just to name a few. Safety first.
That there is a “Rebarb” patch…. I like rebarb pie 🥧 yum
does the center of the bin pad just not have to be as thick as the outside?
All the weigh of the bin will be on the outside on the legs of the bin.
I gained a new level of respect for you when you referenced "Take On Me" by A-Ha. I knew DC raised you right. 👍
PS I hope you, Nave, DC, Cooper AKA Magic Mullet, and Summer all are having an awesome 4th of July. 🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲🧨🧨🧨🧨
My Dad's family were potato farmers in Northern Maine going back to the early 1800s. At best they could only plant 20 to 30 acres of potatoes per field. There just isn't wide open land in Maine. They were wealthy farmers until Idaho started planting potatoes and collapsed potato prices. My father said screw this and went to college and moved to the big city of Hartford Connecticut and never looked back. Thank you Dad.
Old joke... how do potato farmers know who to send to college? The ones that can't tell a rock from a potato.
Making my evening!!
Happy 4th.
I love watching the progress on the bin site!
For the price you guys are paying it might have been worth it to pay for a consulting company to come out and check bearing pressures on your footings and dry densities of the fill below the bins. It looks good though, love the progress.
Make sure you guys get an electrician in there before you pour concrete. It’s nice to have a shit ton of conduit going through your slab before you pour it
Rebarb?
Our lime here in south central IN is white-ish as is most of our rock.
Keep on Keepin on Cole say hello to rave and all the family...told ya Kentucky Knows how to make some Grass...
I'm interested in knowing about that soap you use to wash your equipment. Where can I purchase it?
I've been watching you guys 2 years now howdy from vegas
"Rebarb" LOL !!!! It's what you use to grab a bull by the tonsils. :D
Look at all that black Iowa dirt!!! Fabulous!!
Are your trucks 10 speeds or 13 or even possibly a 18 speed lol I have the same freightliner mines a 13 speed dumb question just curious
Are windmills in distance on your land?
You guys need one of those tire machines for your shop.
