  • Tired of places overrun by tourists in Bangkok, Thailand? Today I will show why you should skip the Boring Bangkok tourist attractions and come here instread. Join me as I take a 40 minute drive south of Bangkok to the province of Samut Prakan. I'm excited to explore this area loaded with Thai history. First we look at the Phra Chulachomklao Fort with its 7 Crouching Tiger cannons. Such a gem, as you can see each of the cannons as close up as you would want. Next up I give a tour of the HTMS Mae Klong destroyer that is dry docked here. Climbing all over this ship was so much fun as there were only two other visitors on board! Such a delight to be able to explore without Bangkok crowds. Next I sat down for a quick lunch of some excellent Thai food at the HTMS Mae Klong restaurant. To my surprise, there was also a wonderful outdoor display of vintage military equipment nearby. Finally the mangroves, and more wild monkeys.... So worth it to get out of Bangkok and go explore the lesser known areas where most tourists don't go.

    Your channel is unique because you go where tourists don't go. When you are in Samutpragan, you might want to go Bang Pu. There are nice restaurant and resort. You might also want to check out Royal Thai Navy Base in Sattahip, Chonburi. It is 2 hours from Bangkok. You will see nice ships and interesting places. It was one of my favorite places when I went to Naval nursing college.

    Hi Serg. Glad you had fun at Pra Chule Fort. The spicy sour soup contains chucks of fried Cha-om or Climbing Wattle also called Acacia. Cha-om is a vegetable grown as fence and food. The cook will pick out feather-like leafs and mix them in beaten egg and fry the mixture in oil until the omlette is firm then cut it into squares.

    On a day with good weather, you can see Koh Sichang island, Chonburi Province. Previously, this fort was buried in a landfill. Until later, someone found it. And there was news that a Bryde's whale had washed up here and died. A delicious restaurant is Krua Pai Thang ( the ultimate kitchen.)
    Nearby is Khun Samut Chin Temple, a seaside temple that in the past had to be visited only by boat. There are homestays and kind people. Nowadays, there is a road to make it easier to visit. The atmosphere in the evening is very good. Because there will be a sea breeze coming in.

    On July 13, 1893, war broke out between France and Siam. At that time it was during the colonization period of France and England. As a result of the war France demanded 2,000,000 francs from Siam. and must pay a deposit of another 3,000,000 francs. Corresponds to the reign of King Rama 5. The government's collection of money and donations from both nobles and royal families was not enough. King Rama 5 therefore had to bring out "red bags of money" to pay to France in order to save the country from the crisis and the claim of occupation. "Red bag money" is personal money that King Rama III personally traded with foreign countries. That trade during his time brought a lot of profits. And he had vision and foresaw that in the future there would be a crisis for the country. Because during His Majesty's reign, it was the era when Burma was already occupied by the British. Therefore, he ordered that this amount of money be kept to help the country in difficult times. To save the country from colonization.

      @LifewithSerg  11 месяцев назад +1

      Wow, that is some very interesting history. Thank you so much for sharing that. I knew the tiling had never been colonized, but I was not aware of this transaction.

    • @nestorgrey
      @nestorgrey 11 месяцев назад +1

      @@LifewithSerg As a result of that war, Thailand had to lose some of its territory. Including Laos and Cambodia and treaties in which Thailand is at a great disadvantage. In addition to the large amount of money that was fetched. After that, King Rama 5 sent his children and other members of the royal family to study abroad. In order to return to develop the country to be modern and comparable to European countries. Because the main excuse for British and French colonization at that time was to come and help develop these backward countries. Like India, Burma, Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam, Malaysia, Indonesia, Philippines. I've been hit before. The princes went to study in England, France, America, Germany. And when they graduate, they come back and develop Thailand to be modern. The current king's grandfather also graduated from England. and studied at the Army Cadet Academy and later changed to become a navy officer instead of Germany. After resigning from the military, he became interested in medicine and public health, so he continued his studies at Howard. United States, where the Howard Institute of Public Health collaborates with M.I.T. He is the father of modern medicine and Thai public health.

    Unfortunately, the mangrove forest learning route has been canceled during the COVID-19 outbreak. But in that place there was no mangrove forest and it was not very complete. Because it is a river mouth area But if you drive along Sukhumvit Road heading to Bang Pu. You will find a large area of learning and conservation of the mangrove forest.
    That museum belongs to the Navy.
    As for the warship you boarded, named the HTMS Mae Klong, it was a World War II ship.
    But the ship has historical value from the battle between Thailand and France. It will be on the other side, called HTMS Thonburi. It was a ship that fought against five French heavy cruisers and saluting ships at Chang Island. Along with two torpedo boats (they were shot and sunk), the three Thai warships could not compare in terms of water capacity to the French warships. But they were able to block the French fleet and retreat into French territory.
    at the HTMS Thonburi There are traces of cannons being fired from French warships.
    But only the cannon turret was removed. and bridge only
    Thank you very much for recommending this small place with historical value. Many Thai people of the new generation do not know these histories.

      Thank you for watching! I knew there were supposed to be some monkeys there, but I didn’t expect to see that many. They were very calm. I was disappointed that the bridges to the mangroves are still broken. It looks like it would be very interesting to go and explore there. See you soon.

    The ship is an old, WWII era US destroyer, not a battleship. Im sure the archives would reveal the original USN registration/name

    It's common unfortunately to see things like the mangrove walkway where time and money is spent building something only to see it deteriate because of zero maintenance.

    • @LifewithSerg
      @LifewithSerg  11 месяцев назад +1

      Yes, it’s such a shame. It doesn’t look that old, but it’s just been left in a complete state of disrepair. Would’ve been so nice to have been able to go for a walk.

    I went there before the Covid-19. At that time I wanted to walk through the mangroves. The wooden walk way was good at that time. But I couldn't go through because of the monkeys. There were so many wild monkeys. Some of them tried to snatch my camera. One of them jumped passed my face just a 7-8 inches. Then I decided to stay away from them.

    • @LifewithSerg
      @LifewithSerg  11 месяцев назад +1

      yes, some of the monkeys can be very aggressive. Honestly, I don’t think it would be very safe to walk through the mangroves with that many monkeys around there.

    • @LifewithSerg

      Right?? it was so fun to just walk around and look and touch whatever I wanted. People here have a lot more respect for things like this than they do in the US.

    Please, these people, you shouldn't bother to catch them at all. Even though it doesn't say that you can't touch them, you shouldn't mess with these things. They're old things. And if you've ever been a police officer, you should know. Another thing is, why spin it? It's old,
