What a beautiful home and property Bob and his wife have built!!!! Meadowlark has also done!!! How many acres is the ranch?? It looks like it is the entire state of Massachusetts!! I’m so proud of bob and his wife for being able to fulfill their dreams, I’m really happy for them and it will really be nice once the cows come home!
I’m not sure when we’re going to Ireland again, but I would love to take my family over there. We fell in love with the place, it was even more beautiful than I had imagined. The mountains and forests and of course, the people are so beautiful! We are hopeful that the log home permitting process will be given the greenlight, so that we can begin building handcrafted log home products for your very special island! At that point, we would be coming over a lot!
As this something that often happens? Would have thought people would let them go natural. You've made a beautiful job though, and the house is beautiful in those settings, think anything else would not have looked right.😍💖

Elvie, thanks for another great video! You truly do wonderful work. You and your family are amazing! I hope you can build for me someday. A question. When you are power washing prior to the chinking is there any interior water leakage that must be dealt with?
Usually there’s not much because there is a gasket and glue between the logs. The little bit that comes through is not a problem. You have to remember usually we are staining the house before people are living in it.
Question! Do you have to let the house "settle" before you put the staining and chinking on? When we built our house, I noticed after several years that the walls had moved a few centimeters and cracks appeared. We had to go through the house and patch those areas up so they looked nice. Is this the same with a log house? Also can you use steal pillars to support the house and put solar panels and clay tiles on the roof? Curious minds want to know! Thanks in advance!
You learn more about log cabins with each video and this is no exception. Is this kind of work required regularly or was it left to the elements? Outstanding work and a brilliant result. I’m definitely going to look for a parcel of land to build my dream cabin and I love the State of Massachusetts. If anyone knows of some stunning land with 10- 50 acres and not a million miles from Boston I’d be very interested. I need the hospital facilities in Boston and somewhere beautiful to live in my final years. I’m not old but just unluckily to have one of the rarest diseases known. I’m going to really enjoy my life 😊💕🫶🏼🙏🏻

I love log houses but this is a big problem for this kind structures. Maybe needs mode than 3 coats of sealer, maybe some coats of marine barnish would be more eficient for a long time.
Chinking is the “caulking” that we apply on the seam between each log course to seal where one log sits on top of the one below it. It seals off any possible gaps between the logs and creates an airtight wall.

That’s a very interesting question for anyone considering a log cabin as their primary home. I’m not sure myself about the maintenance costs but would be very interested in the answer. Every property requires regular maintenance of some type but after four years it became very distressed in the colours of the wood 🪵. Might this be due to the railway or is it to be expected? Beautiful job.
Does anyone know how much it typically cost to hire someone to stain your log home ? We’re in the processes of land clearing for our home and want a log home so just want to know what to expect!
The price for stain application varies a lot because it depends so much on the condition of the logs, the age of the home, the complexity and size of the home of course. A home the size of this one in Massachusetts would cost somewhere in the neighborhood of $50,000 to completely clean and stain three coats but it also has a garage and a lot of complexity.
That pressure washer was a serious unit.....it was not your average Home Depot special for 500 bucks I bet it was at least 4,000-5,000 PS ( I would also imagine it was a high flow unit at least 3.5-5 GPM which is actually the biggest factor in removing all that discoloration and lightning up to wood ) I and I bet there was a good Honda industrial motor on it! May I ask, which camera or smartphone you used for this movie? Thank you.
You can use Clorax .it cleans up all the dust and the mold.
How often do should you stain your logs
Stain should be done every 10-15 years depending on climate and location.
What’s the cost of doing that to the Cabin?
In 2020 to clean stain and chink the exterior was $68,000. In 2023 it is higher than that.

In 2016 I expect they spent about $800,000. Today this home would be well over $1 million.
Sounds like it’s in the Berkshires, which makes that amount of property alone worth a few mil.
