When Diamond Head first released Lightning To The Nations 40 years ago in 1980, few could have predicted the importance it would carry with regards to heavy metal’s new wave and sound. Stacked and packed with riffs, Lightning To The Nations would be one of the prime catalysts for a movement known as the New Wave of British Heavy Metal (NWOBHM).
Re-imagined, re-recorded and re-born in 2020, Diamond Head’s forthcoming 40-year celebration of their genre-defining debut album is a scintillating shot of fresh metal energy. With Lightning To The Nations 2020 listeners experience not only the rare phenomenon of crisp, fresh and new sounding songs with very little of the obvious original elements altered, they will also be treated to four supreme cover versions
Recorded over several sessions between various locations, from France to band members’ home studios, Lightning To The Nations 2020 central hub was Andersen’s Raw Sound Studios in London. It’s where Brian and Abbz did the guitars in February and March of this year, and then with the COVID-19 chaos striking, Andersen worked on the album between April and July, with Tatler’s watchful ear inspecting final mixes and tweaks in early August before sending off to mastering at Metropolis Studios in London.
This edition of the album sees Diamond Head spreading their wings and creating the heaviest of homages to Led Zeppelin, Judas Priest, Deep Purple… And Metallica.

@@UltraBluesRocker I sure do. I went and listened to Devin's version. It was good. But it doesn't come close to Diamond Head's version musically or vocally in my opinion. Yeah, that's the thing about opinions, everybody has one.

'Sinner' is one of my all-time favorite Priest songs. This cover is straight fire. When Diamond Head meets Priest in the studio it can only produce true greatness. *horns*

Always in my mind DIAMOND HEAD. in 80-ties I use to have your vinyl albums back in Poland. I live in Chicago now for years and I brought you guys with me as well. Most people recognize you thanks to Metallica`s "Am I evil?" cover. This is "evil" sad story- why so late? The same old story like with Budgie. Burk Shelley, my long time HERO, R.I.P.!!! What a band that was. I had a chance to see them live back in Poland in 1982. I got lucky. My next three attempts never happened for some reason! This is beautiful.....I can't tell exactly what guitar Tatler used, but being that he's generally not a whammy bar kind of guy, I'd hazard a guess he did the solo with one of his Gibsons.....& I enjoyed how instead of KK-meets-Hendrix whammy bar madness he went for a more subdued & atmospheric take on the solo, it really worked well.....another brilliant cover
Just on that note all the mad KK solo stuff on this was played by Abbs. Think we used either his Suhr or my Gibson BFG modded with a floyd.

The guitar tone could be heavier - it sounds too processed and buried in the mix. You can't beat the crushing in-your-face tone on Unleashed In The East. Other than that, pretty good cover.
Even in 2020 Unleashed sounds incredible. Nice cover.
