I especially love the navy stove. It reminds me of a military coat. It's so, so beautiful. It's magical at night. 🌿💙💙💙🌿

Beautiful home would love to see old plantation beds and 18 century porcelain in it as an ode to the home

What year was it built? Why has 95% of the old character been stripped?

Contractor here! I work downtown. It’s because it all rots and fall apart. None of the original walls would be able to last this long. These houses are also required to eventually change things out for code reasons.

I’m a contractor working downtown. They tear the original interior out because they fall apart and rot! This old wood is very aged and needs to be replaced for the safety of the homeowner.

There is also a code that has to be followed for these houses to be livable, or even marketed for tours. So there’s not much you can do but renovate

    • @elizabethrandleman402

Just to let you know that I have renovated an 1832 home,it had minimal electrical ,ex 1 outlet per room,1 overhead fixture,no central heat,8 rooms with 8 fireplaces several brown enamel oil circulators,2 bathrooms on porches enclosed,no insulations, forest pine materials. The nc department of history and archives guided us on renovations.Rewired, replumbed insulated, repaired plaster,(4) rooms, sheet rocked 4 rooms with shiplapped pine walls, did not destroy any original woodwork, did not sand the forest pine hand plained flooring, or changed the sash windows(repaired the ropes and weights),installed central heat (heat pumps)and AC,repaired door knobs and locks.CedarPoint is now listed on the National Register, and is virtually intact as it was in 1832.Since the kitchen was a separate building, was able to build a kitchen in a downstairs bedroom. All in all,it is possible to save the historic properties, with out gutting the interiors and making them look like a New York apartment! I have been to Charleston on many occasions, toured nearly all of the historic buildings and homes, kept up with the articles in the shelter magazines, and really think it is so sad that hand made homes are renovated and much of the craftsmanship is removed.

@@elizabethrandleman402 exactly that wood didn’t rot. A lot of people destroy these Charleston singles and turn them modern.
