When i bought this game last week my first thought was "Jon would love this" my second thought was I need to buy eggs. Because I cant think of you without associating you with a carton of eggs. Thanks for that.
So glad you are playing this game! You can dredge up the treasures for the collector during the day, the light they display is just easier to see at night.
I was so excited for you to see the 'only other boat' and was glad that made it into the video 😂. When I played I was honking my horn inviting it over. Little did I know...
8:00 a fun fact: it's often considered bad luck to rename your vessel, unless you do a proper renaming ceremony which involves removing everything bearing the old name from the boat, and striking the old name from any logs, maintenance records and ledgers, etc. It's also considered bad luck to sail on a vessel with no name, or a name that is arrogantly tempting the seas
The origin of this is based on insurance. Unscrupulous owners would run their boats ragged, and when the insurers would no longer sell them insurance they would change the name and pretend it was a new boat. Sailors were therefore extremely wary of any boat that had changed it's name recently, because it was more often than not changed to hide something. The elaborate boat renaming ceremony makes it impossible to rename a boat surreptitiously, so suggests it's not being done for nefarious purposes. Sailors being a generally pretty superstitious lot, it was no surprise that all this got codified into the notion that sailing on a renamed ship was courting disaster. Apparently, in the Netherlands there is no superstition around boat renaming, because most boats were owned and skippered by the same person. So anyone trying the same thing would be on board the boat as well.
@@DavidRickmann It's like how religious decrees about which animals are or aren't safe to eat come from a time before refrigeration at and sterilisation technology really existed so it was basically a way to get people not to eat food likely to poison them. Game goes "curved fish", Jon puts in mostly non-curved fish. Nothing happens, Jon is surprised. Always fun to see the reading comprehension isn't getting better with age. 😅
Lolol this is actually my GOTY so I was laughing when you said it 😂 it's not too long of a game - I actually wish it were longer - but it has great lore, fun missions, and good endings. You should definitely consider playing more. Lol you filling the rock up with the wrong fish was priceless.
This is a Team 17 game, from the "Worms" series. It's a fun game with more than a few surprises. It could be scarier, but doesn't disappoint and is atmospheric.
Some hints. Time stops when ur not moving. So just stop when haste meter maxes out wait for it to drop and then hammer down. Speed really helps so motor up first worry about rods, nets etc after. U only need a few crab traps spread them out near the floating docks. U don't need bait except for the trap mission.
If like this game, check out Sunless Sea (and it's more refined sequel Sunless Skies). It's a text-victorian-lovecraftesque RPG where you control a underground ship/spavce train.
That foghorn sounds like the first two notes of Satisfaction by The Rolling Stones! :-) Yessssssssssssssssssss!!! Livestream! Livestream! LIVESTREAM! LIVESTREAM!!!
I really can't praise this game enough. It's a perfect size and mix of genres. The progression is interesting and engaging. It's just a game. I think some of the dlc is a touch disappointing but it's otherwise everything you want at this game size/ price point. I hope you keep playing, Jon! It's a good trip.
bro just make a series out of it, making a live out of it will only take away from the atmospheric qualities of the game with claire reading out donations and super chats every 2 minutes and u end up cutting her off and talking over her anyways, just make it a series.
Hi John hope you are well as with Claire. This game reminds me of CHOO CHOO Charlie don't know why just first thing I thought of anyway l9ve your content leep 9n keeping on 👍🙊
Day 1012 of requesting Zoo Tycoon. The mayor looks like if the fat controller was struggling with a drug problem, the ocean is as scary as always, and it makes us realize the true unknowable nature of the natural world. In other words, it's perfect.
I beat the game, spoilers: there's two endings, pay attention to every single piece of dialogue it's important. This game is a rollar coaster, every bit of it you'll love.
The most annoying thing to me was selling and repairing became tedious and when you get items on the left, there should always be a 'take all' like the crab pots. Or at the very least a button that moves the selected item to the hull. I always had to select it, press right stick and then find an open slot.
Jon immediately getting turned around and confusing the two towns was just perfect (for our favourite -1 perception gamer). 😂
And then the "Curved fish" lol
Came to mention this but u beat me here by a few hours
To be fair, I did the same thing (except I realized it was the wrong town).
not spelling the title as ‘sole’ like the fish is a huge misplay
Congratulations - you just named the video.
i'm shocked it wasn't 'Shoals' honestly
Surely this is worth MATN points
It appears the title is spelled w sole like the fish, 4 hrs after post. Shoal would have been great too!
Or "Dark Shoals."
Jon, please play more of this game for us! This is exactly the kind of madness I want to watch!
I love how jon just can't contemplate the idea of having 2 fishing rods at the same time.
When i bought this game last week my first thought was "Jon would love this" my second thought was I need to buy eggs. Because I cant think of you without associating you with a carton of eggs. Thanks for that.
I've never seen the lure be more effective, and knowing how Jon feels about angler fish I admit it kind of broke my heart, poor lad.
Jon playing a scary game where keeping perception of something is key to gameplay. Uhoh!
So glad you are playing this game!

please turn this into a mini series, preferably not a live.
Seconded, I enjoy series more
@@ellaisplotting vastly more
Jon is finally playing the cosmic horror sailing game where you go crazy in the dark and..... wait what do you mean this isn't sunless sea?!
Was playing this for an age just the other day. I'm nearing the endgame, wishing it was 10 times longer. Such a great idea.
I forgot to mention, it's also bad luck to name your vessel after a previous ship that had sunk. That counts as tempting the seas.
Superstitious waffle.

14.00 "Fishnomicon" actually made me almost spit my drink out from laughter
I hope this becomes a series

if you like this you might enjoy Sunless Sea. Would love to see you do a video on that game!
I would love to see a mini series of you playing this!!!
Jon not having any idea what's going on any being confused, probably naked, and afraid makes this practically a authentic Lovecraft story.
Would love to see more of this
Everything I see about Dredge reminds me of the game Sunless Sea. Would love to see you take a look at that game some time!
Honestly when this game came out I had to check who made it to see if it was part of the SS/Fallen London franchise.
I love Sunless Sea so much
I liked that game but the permadeath mechanic was frustrating. I gave up after one of my characters died because I made a small mistake

I'm halfway through this game so far and I fucking love it. It's super simple, relaxing, and only made me cry once ❤
I don't know how Jon finds these weird games every time hahaha but this actually is pretty fun, with upgrades etc. I like it. Play more of this .
If like this game, check out Sunless Sea (and it's more refined sequel Sunless Skies). It's a text-victorian-lovecraftesque RPG where you control a underground ship/spavce train.
I went to check for this on the channel only yesterday I'm happy how fast you jumped onto this game
just put this game on my wishlist a day before this video goes live. That's gotta be a sign!
Went and got this game the day I watched this, thanks John 👍
"Time does not move unless I'm fishing," he says, while time is moving because he is moving.
Jon repeatedly missing the curved fish part of the shrine was such low perception it hurt me every time 😂🙃
For the shrine, I think you need all cod?
- Nevermind you get there by the end of the video!
Kept thinking this, it specifies a "curved fish" and looks like you could tetris them to fit like a puzzle.
Yep. Jon missed the highlighted word and multiple pictures of cod 🤣
Vaguely wondering if the reward changes if you use all Grotesque Cod.
This game reminds me of "Sunless Sea" (2015). SS had a similar setting but was way darker and less accessible (permadeath)
That was fun, thanks Jon. One little tip, you missed a quest in the town you sell trinkets at (and Ingfell had a quest where you ended it).
Jon has joined the lesser known song, Ghost fishers in the Bay.
I just finished this game, short but so good. Felt like a living world, not worth the asking price but damn is it fine.
I'd love to see this as a mini series jon!
Loved Dredge well worth the £20 for such a cool little experience
I would watch this as series
I can't wait to play this.
More of this please!
I would love to see a livestream of this game!
Surprised you didn't stumble across the Necronomi-cod... XD
That foghorn sounds like the first two notes of Satisfaction by The Rolling Stones! :-)

I still think you'll like Fallen London, Sunless Sea
I'd suggest Sunless Skies but yeah. I was just about to mention this game would fit in the Fallen London verse in a separate comment. :)
I just saw this in Steam a half hour ago and thought of you.
Oh, Jon, Jon Jon Jon, Their are MUCH bigger things in these waters then that angler fish. MUCH BIGGER.
I remember seeing a tumblr post outlining a horror fishing mini game so it’s good to see the idea brought to fruition
A live stream or series would be great!
Seconded!
its actually short enough he could probably do it in 2, maaybe 3 livestreams.
“Fishnomicron” 😂
Ok sold me. I bought this on ps5 and look forward to play and unravel the mystery
I was hoping you'd play this, it's just delightful! And deliciously creepy too. Such a great game.
bro just make a series out of it, making a live out of it will only take away from the atmospheric qualities of the game with claire reading out donations and super chats every 2 minutes and u end up cutting her off and talking over her anyways, just make it a series.
I'm disappointed Jon didn't do this game Squid-Only, Silent Fisherman.
May Cod have mercy on your sole...
If it **IS** the 1920s, then that $44 is the equivalent of $763 (assuming 1927) in today's money. :) Still not much at all.
is it like a simple form of SUNLESS SEA
4:11 How did you confuse this for the town you started in?!
Has Jon ever done the Unterzee? I'm sure that would be fun.
Hi John hope you are well as with Claire. This game reminds me of CHOO CHOO Charlie don't know why just first thing I thought of anyway l9ve your content leep 9n keeping on 👍🙊
Might have to pick up this game. Looks really interesting.
Finished the video and then noticed the pun in the title.
To the nearest thousand, how many times per episode do you think the word "yes" is said?
Thirteen seconds in, I'm hooked.
Why rod not cod (the fish) though?
May cod have mercy on your pole. But I like Jon's rod/sole pun too :)
Well I know what game I’m playing next
Missed the opportunity to call it "May rod have mercy on your pole"
I pray to the lord, please, make Jon series of this game. Amen.
The final boss better not be vitamin D deficiency
live stream coming soon?
Brilliant! love this. Series!!!
Saw Fauna playing this and figured you'd be playing it soon as well

Good game but not a £22 game 😮💨 finished it in a day
more make this a series
I almost didn't notice the pun in the title.
And now there's two!
Comment for the algorithm.

Nice. Livestream please

Wait a minute is this a reupload?
$44 may be a lot of money? You just sold a fish for $24 hahahahaha low perception strikes again
Looks a bit fishy...
